Optimizes cloud strategies with security and cost insights
Trusted Advisor offers features that provide inside information for the entire account, including identifying security gaps and offering cost optimization insights. The key features include security recommendations, cost optimization, and various packages to choose from, depending on the size of the company. It is especially beneficial for larger companies, as the tool provides a comprehensive view of account security, open ports, buckets, and offers recommendations for protection.

Have faced limitations due to high costs but have maintained reliability over time
The primary issue is the pricing, which is very expensive for my company's budget. We cannot afford to pay such a large fee. We are not Microsoft or BMW; we are a small company. As a small company, I have no power to negotiate directly with VMware. Perhaps larger companies have more opportunity to contract directly with VMware, but I do not have that leverage. The only path I can follow is to change solutions. Net.spA is a company working in the field of waste management. We are not a technological company, so we do not have a large margin to justify purchasing and maintaining the VMware infrastructure at current costs.

Pros

"It is very stable."
"The key features include security recommendations, cost optimization, and various packages to choose from, depending on the size of the company."
"I would give it a ten out of ten."
"Trusted Advisor offers features that provide inside information for the entire account, including identifying security gaps and offering cost optimization insights."
"I strongly recommend using Trusted Advisor due to its role in cybersecurity, providing cost-effective solutions compared to external companies."
"The cost optimization and security-related fixes in AWS Trusted Advisor have been great."
"Trusted Advisor scans the complete infrastructure within the account, providing a consolidated view of all services in use."
"Trusted Advisor has helped our organisation gain insights into best practices across a number of important domains for us, and it has helped me maintain a holistic view of our AWS platform and guided me to improve areas needing it."
"My experience with VMware has been good from a functionality point of view; the interface is intuitive for me, though at the beginning when I started working with it around ten years ago, it was somewhat difficult."
"Its technical support team responds quickly."
"It allows me to see how my entire infrastructure is performing in a simplified manner."
"We haven't had any issues with vROps."
"We have seen huge ROI; it has certainly reduced troubleshooting, especially when we have less experienced support technicians than engineers looking at it, as it guides them to where to find the solution and now I have a lot less junior staff coming up to me asking what has gone wrong because it displays on the dashboard what they can do to resolve it."
"The historical data allows us to go back, look at the VM past historical data, CPU memory usage, and disk latency, and it helps us troubleshoot a lot of issues."
"Dashboards give a single pane of glass where you can view multiple clients, multiple issues, networking, data stores, and more, and another good tool it has is capacity planning for your host and your costs, which is crucial when managing large environments with around 55,000 VMs and 5000 to 8000 hosts."
"We can detect when, for example, one host is getting hit by a lot of VMs and we can take care of that host. It enables us to add more memory, more CPU, or maybe we just replace the host."

Cons

"For EC2 instances, we need to install the AWS CloudWatch agent to get the memory metric because we don't have a by-default memory utilization graph on cost optimization."
"Trusted Advisor currently scans the whole system, including development, staging, and QA environments, which increases costs."
"Whenever they suggest anything or any changes in the environment, we cannot click and simply implement those changes."
"However, the integration between Trusted Advisor and Security Hub occasionally confuses as there are many overlapping AWS services and the same finding can be duplicated."
"I'd like the solution to support clouds beyond AWS."
"Maybe if Trusted Advisor could also help us with IP address issues and the status of our VPCs, it would be beneficial."
"The tenancy must be free for all metrics."
"Cost is a significant factor that needs improvement."
"If they can make the automation a little easier because we have tried a couple of things and have realized that you have to go through a lot of scripts and adapters for its configuration."
"The biggest improvement I'd like to see is when you create custom dashboards, there isn’t an easy way to specify custom time settings."
"For our operations manager, initial setup is complex, so you can't just have someone who just deploys ESX hosts."
"Technical support is normally good but there is sometimes a delay in their response."
"A reporting engine would be good, where the database could dump into something like Splunk integration, so we could write our own reports."
"I gave it four stars because it is very, very complex."
"The tool should have an easy workflow with some guided steps to make it simpler from the customer's perspective."
"When you are at your lowest, support is pretty bad. They ask you dumb questions but when you come to second and upper service desk, it is much easier and much better to talk to and resolve the issue."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"Trusted Advisor offers various packages, with the most comprehensive costing $15,000 per month."
"We have seen ROI in performance. It used to be our company was giving out eight CPUs to all servers. That was bad performance-wise. People were seeing slow compute times for their applications."
"We did an enterprise license agreement with our VMware partner and put this in our bundle. We tried it and loved it, so we use it now."
"It is an affordable solution that doesn't require any additional costs."
"Don't overallocate! This means that you don't have to buy many hosts. You can save money that way."
"In terms of the pricing for VMware vRealize Operations (vROps), I can't remember exactly how much it costs, but it was included in the VMware vSphere enterprise plus licensing package my company paid for."
"Every VMware product is a licensing challenge. It's always costly. It's based on processors. From a technical side, the product is very good. The challenging part is always the licensing. They should have some kind of alternate pricing models."
"The licensing is not clear at the moment if the on-premises pricing is the same as on the cloud. I am checking on the pricing. However, you can save a lot of money with the cloud solution because you need to spend time installing, upgrading, and connecting with the on-premises solution. Also, you don't need to spend time scheduling the maintenance and maintaining the solution when using the cloud version."
"The pricing: It's expensive."
