Optimizes cloud strategies with security and cost insights
Trusted Advisor offers features that provide inside information for the entire account, including identifying security gaps and offering cost optimization insights. The key features include security recommendations, cost optimization, and various packages to choose from, depending on the size of the company. It is especially beneficial for larger companies, as the tool provides a comprehensive view of account security, open ports, buckets, and offers recommendations for protection.

Have faced limitations due to high costs but have maintained reliability over time
The primary issue is the pricing, which is very expensive for my company's budget. We cannot afford to pay such a large fee. We are not Microsoft or BMW; we are a small company. As a small company, I have no power to negotiate directly with VMware. Perhaps larger companies have more opportunity to contract directly with VMware, but I do not have that leverage. The only path I can follow is to change solutions. Net.spA is a company working in the field of waste management. We are not a technological company, so we do not have a large margin to justify purchasing and maintaining the VMware infrastructure at current costs.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"The recommendation feature is really good."
"The cost optimization features are valuable."
"It is very stable."
"The Security Advisor is the most valuable feature. It instantly informs you about any system misconfigurations, and the best part is, it's completely free."
"I would give it a ten out of ten."
"The key features include security recommendations, cost optimization, and various packages to choose from, depending on the size of the company."
"I strongly recommend using Trusted Advisor due to its role in cybersecurity, providing cost-effective solutions compared to external companies."
"Trusted Advisor scans the complete infrastructure within the account, providing a consolidated view of all services in use."
"Valuable features include trending of performance and capacity. Also, being able to dive into some more detailed analysis of performance metrics and compare them to a baseline of what's normal for particular time frames."
"It has reduced the time it takes to troubleshoot issues. We have customers trying to pinpoint and isolate issues using vROps. The information it provides helps them to pinpoint the issue a lot faster and resolve anything a lot quicker as well. They have a lot less downtime."
"VCOPs is one of the best products from VMware."
"It's helped speed up performance and helped us size our environment appropriately, so that the servers that need the resources can get them, so we're not over-subscribing some and under-subscribing others."
"If they're heavily invested in the vSphere product line, vROps is definitely a product they can't go without."
"It has also been a huge help with capacity management and with performance management."
"The most valuable feature is that it stores all the data from the vCenters that we point it at, so it's an essential place to get that sort of performance data; the CPU utilization and disk utilization data is the most important part."
"The most valuable features of VMware Aria Operations include its excellent monitoring capabilities."

Cons

"For EC2 instances, we need to install the AWS CloudWatch agent to get the memory metric because we don't have a by-default memory utilization graph on cost optimization."
"Cost is a significant factor that needs improvement."
"The tenancy must be free for all metrics."
"Cost is a significant factor that needs improvement. Reducing the cost would make it more beneficial for all users."
"The integration between Trusted Advisor and Security Hub sometimes lacks, and I need a way to ensure things come through there."
"I'd like the solution to support clouds beyond AWS."
"Trusted Advisor currently scans the whole system, including development, staging, and QA environments, which increases costs. It would be better if it could selectively scan only production systems."
"Maybe adding more security rules would be great."
"I can't pinpoint any specific areas for improvement at the moment, though there is always room for better pricing, licensing options, and potential enhancements in the user interface or customization."
"The solution can improve by offering more flexible integration with other platforms or products, such as Hyper-V or Azure. Not everyone uses VMware. It would be beneficial to have a more open-source concept for integration, creating more visibility across multiple clouds."
"We are looking to optimize all the parts. For example, vCenter can be fully deployed automatically, which is not the case with vROps. We can click some next buttons to integrate vCenter and would like these type of features for vROps, if possible."
"They should improve the vROps Federation Management Pack, so each customer can create a single pane of glass for multiple sites of vROps."
"Honestly, I wish the reports were a little bit more snazzy, if that makes sense."
"There are certain issues with capturing the information on vSphere application metrics. vROps doesn't clearly capture those metrics."
"For our operations manager, initial setup is complex, so you can't just have someone who just deploys ESX hosts."
"The tool should have an easy workflow with some guided steps to make it simpler from the customer's perspective."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"Trusted Advisor offers various packages, with the most comprehensive costing $15,000 per month."
"VMware support is very costly compared to other organizations' support. When you purchase a VMware product, such as vSphere or vROps, the license is perpetual, but you also have to purchase the support service for a number of years. The support service pricing is very high compared to the license, and compared to competitive vendors."
"So, besides the license overall, you have to pay for the type of support you want. With the license, there is a support cost as well."
"The predictive analysis of the infrastructure helps our customers to reduce downtime and improve capacity planning. Issues are fixed faster with vROps."
"When we last did a comparison of solutions, the pricing was equal or similar."
"I would like to see a free offering. Cost is always a factor in any sort of line. Obviously, the value added is there and it's worth it."
"The solution has a huge cost. If we could just have one license covering everything that vROps can do, that would be great. I would prefer it this way."
"If one is cheap and ten is expensive, I rate the product price an eight out of ten."
"Pricing is good for us. We're non-profit so we get a break on that."
