Enhanced data quality with machine learning support in diverse environments
We used Ataccama ONE to read data from the mainframe for a data quality perspective. There's a significant lack in that area with tools being able to interface with mainframe. MetLife has a diverse environment, including DB2, Oracle, SQL Server, legacy, and vSAN files. Being able to work in these various environments and put them to a single data quality tool was very appealing. Additionally, Ataccama supported AI and machine learning, which was one of the features I liked. Furthermore, we were able to interface bidirectionally with Collibra for data governance, catching data quality issues before propagating through the system.

Enhanced data management and cost effective with flexible integration capabilities
If Microsoft MDS were part of Azure, it would be significantly more helpful. Additionally, integrating fuzzy duplication within MDS itself, rather than relying on SSIS, would streamline operations. The current requirement to store data in Azure tables after processing it in MDS, due to its lack of direct Azure integration, is a drawback.

A master data management tool with easy setup and support
Reltio has two main aspects: one is handled by developers and architects, and Reltio manages the other. Developers and architects are responsible for configuration, developing requirements, and working on the implementation. There are default limitations and considerations. For instance, Reltio can store a maximum of 200 values for a single attribute. If your data exceeds this limit, you can request Reltio support to increase the limit. However, be aware that increasing this limit may impact performance, potentially slowing down data loading times. In cases where attribute values or record counts exceed the standard limits (e.g., more than 20 million records), Reltio support can add additional resources to your tenant. This usually involves extra costs, but it ensures the system remains efficient and scalable. As a developer or architect, you don’t need to manage this process; Reltio support handles scalability and resource allocation.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"The desktop version of the solution was particularly valuable to me, primarily for creating components. We opted for the data quality aspect to assess the quality of our data warehouse. The functionalities available allowed us to not only check data quality but also serve as an ETL tool. This versatility enabled data transformation and storage in various formats, including files on platforms like SharePoint or local online directories. The flexibility of the tool catered to the specific needs of those building components, contributing to our desired outcomes."
"The product’s important feature is data profiling and quality check."
"It is also easy to deploy."
"The notable aspect lies in the workflow structure, where building the workflow aligns significantly with data governance."
"The ease of use of the user console is valuable."
"Customer service was excellent, and I would give it a ten out of ten."
"The data profile itself is excellent. You can understand the quality of the data in layman's terms."
"The drag-and-drop feature is incredibly flexible and straightforward."

"The tool is easy to use."
"It's very easy to use."
"More generic related things can be included in the services."
"Compared to other databases, it is easier to manage and administer."
"It has a very good feature called Excel plug-in. You just have to install the plug-in, and then it directly connects to the MDS instance where you can maintain and manage your data and publish it right through Excel. You don't need to go to the front end to make any changes. It has easy integration with SQL Server, and you can use SSIS to do the ETLs. It is a part of the Microsoft stack. It works with most of the Microsoft stuff."
"The solution is easy to install."
"Technical support is very good."
"There are default limitations and considerations. For instance, Reltio can store a maximum of 200 values for a single attribute. If your data exceeds this limit, you can request Reltio support to increase the limit. However, be aware that increasing this limit may impact performance, potentially slowing down data loading times."
"The cloud feature is very beneficial, and the scalability performance feature is excellent."
"The most valuable feature is real-time synchronization. You can see the events as soon as they are posted within a couple of fraction seconds."
"It is a scalable product, and the scalability is good. We can configure users."
"The solution saves 30% to 40% of our time."
"It is very easy to learn. The"
"The survivorship feature is great because we can define it, prioritize the sources, and only allow those sources to survive when making the golden record."
"Its user interface is different from that of other MDM solutions like Informatica"

Cons

"Although DQA can fetch data from most of the commonly used data sources, it has limited modifiers to get data, meaning that the number of technologies from which the data can be acquired is limited. For example, DQA does not support fetching data from Twitter or Facebook. Many competitors have this feature."
"It is complicated to fetch 20-25 reports when we profile the data."
"They could focus more on marketing the product. The current marketing strategy is not working."
"Speaking specifically about the version we use, version 12.3, I'm unsure if this has been addressed in subsequent versions. One improvement I'd like to see pertains to the language used in certain components, especially in data quality checks. The language complexity posed a challenge for beginners. Although we had on-site assistance from Ataccama, making it manageable for us, some individuals found it difficult to comprehend, necessitating additional support. The provision of a comprehensive guide for on-premise installation can also be enhanced. The lack of detailed information on the solution's workings and the overwhelming nature of notifications, with extensive content, were areas of concern. Streamlining the notification content in newer versions would significantly expedite issue resolution."
"Data movement is a pain."
"There is a notable challenge in having to provide detailed filters before the site recognizes the search criteria."
"The interfacing to tools such as Collibra was somewhat cumbersome and required more thought."
"I believe it would be beneficial if it could enhance its flexibility to connect with a wider range of downstream systems beyond just Excel and Postgres."
"I do not like using Silverlight and Internet Explorer. The new 2019 version gets rid of that, which is one of the reasons why we are looking to switch."
"Stability can be fragile at times. If you are not attentive or make a mistake, it can cause problems."
"The only drawback is that it does not have the matching, merging, and all true MDM components. For these, you have to use another competent called Data Quality Services (DQS). You need to plug it in and use it along with MDS for true MDM. Both of these are integrated together, but you have to do them separately, whereas, in Profisee, there are a couple of screens where you can configure the matching process, create matching rules, and other things, and everything is in one product, which is not the case with MDS. In order to implement a true MDM, you need MDS, DQS, and SSIS. You have to use MDS to store your golden records, DQS to configure and standardize all your rules and matching percentages, and SSIS to load the data to DQS and MDS. At the same time, you also need Melissa Data to clean up your addresses to validate and standardize the addresses. That's the main component of true MDM. It would be good if they can create a true matching component inside MDS and merge MDS and DQS."
"The Microsoft license cost could be lower."
"Microsoft MDS is outdated and lacks modern capabilities."
"Microsoft MDS isn't getting strong support because Microsoft is focusing more on cloud solutions."
"Most of the Microsoft partners, especially digitally, are separate. Personnel are business people, and they do not have technical expertise, so you end up as a company spending a lot of money training your staff and your engineers."
"Microsoft MDS' language should be simple so everyone can use it easily."
"Reltio Cloud could be improved in two specific areas. Firstly, the API capability needs to be enhanced, as when utilizing the REST API and posting a significant amount of data, there are multiple rejections from the MDM side. This can be due to the MDM server not responding or being unable to process the request. Therefore, I suggest that the API capacity should be increased to handle larger amounts of data. Additionally, I have noticed that the response time from the servers can take up to a minute or a few seconds, which can be improved for a faster response time."
"There is some lag in developing new features for specific business requirements. If a new feature is needed, we have to raise a request in the developer portal through the IDEA portal. This process takes time to develop, which can be a drawback when immediate business needs arise."
"We need manual data modeling and configuration to tailor the platform to our requirements."
"Initially, the UI was limited in features."
"The solution's UI could be enhanced, and its record filtering could be expanded."
"The deployment is difficult."
"The support team is slow to respond when we need assistance with workflow deployments. We must rely on their availability and contact them to receive the required JAR files."
"AI features should be introduced in Reltio more."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"Our licensing model wasn't user-specific; instead, we paid fees for the engine and maintenance. As we didn't have a support contract, maintenance fees were likely nonexistent. Regarding the upgrade, we had an account for the initial two or three years, and considering the features provided by the solution, the pricing was reasonable."
"The product is reasonably priced."
"Despite not being extremely low-cost, the pricing appears reasonable, making it a profitable and viable choice for companies that prioritize data security and adhere to specific policies."
"There is no need to buy a license. You can just download it and use it for free."
"SAP is more expensive than Microsoft."
"I would like to see better pricing."
"The pricing of this solution is good."
"Product licensing is very complicated. It would be helpful to have an online calculator to estimate the cost of a license."
"Microsoft MDS is an expensive solution."
"MDS is a part of the SQL Server enterprise license. I am not aware of any additional costs."
"With Microsoft, we buy everything though an agreement, so we purchase volume licensing every year."
"The solution does require a license and we have enterprise licenses."
