Key features are roaming, application control and the firewall
We are partners of Aruba as well as sellers and customers. My job in the company is IP network engineer.  The roaming is a feature that works very well. In addition, the application control and firewall features are very good. These are all important features and make the product a valuable one.…

Improves network security with micro-segmentation but setup is complex
I value the ability to dynamically configure our network on the fly using VMware NSX. This flexibility is a huge advantage because it allows us to avoid static configurations that come with traditional hardware setups. Additionally, the micro-segmentation feature is beneficial for adhering to strict security regulations from our security department.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"The most valuable feature is the end-user monitoring. If there is any abnormal behavior on the machine, the administrator will be alerted."
"I haven't heard of any issues with stability."
"Roaming feature, application control and firewall features."
"Overall, for me, it's a good solution and has been working well."
"The initial setup was straightforward. It follows a certain structure and you won't miss a step. It's all on the same level, step by step."
"The most valuable features are security and dynamic routing."
"I have found VMware NSX to be easy to use."
"The initial setup is easy and takes between one and five days."
"This solution comes with an API that can easily integrate with other solutions."
"The migration methods are the most valuable aspect of this solution."
"The organization of it is logical, useful, and intuitive."

Cons

"I would like to see improvements made to the dashboard, where you can get the information with a simple click."
"Technical support is a little slow."
"The packet analyzer needs improvement."
"The solution can improve by making it more straightforward, easier to install and maintain in the environment."
"It's a good product, but the way that it has got so many multiple levels that need to be purchased makes it expensive and cumbersome."
"VMware NSX should be able to scale for different customers, even the big ones. Its scalability needs improvement. Stability for it should also be improved."
"Just being more knowledgeable about the different functions."
"If you're worried that NSX is too complex, I would tell you to take another look. If you compare NSX to a similar solution you might find it to be a bit more complex. Usually, the guy that comes in to implement NSX isn't the network guy and will lack the knowledge for the program. He can lack the knowledge for this program and will therefore think it's complex. You need somebody with network experience."
"The setup is complex and should be made easier."
"Going through and getting more features sets from the routing protocols is definitely necessary for the future."
"The scalability is not perfect."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"The license is based on the number of users. The evaluation license is free, you can download it from the website and try it out first."
"We are using a perpetual license to use the solution and we have support."
"VMware NSX isn't cheap."
"We haven't had to hire a dedicated network engineer because NSX handles 90 percent of it. The reduced overhead in terms of managing networks has been the biggest plus."
"I'm unable to give information on the pricing or licensing cost of VMware NSX because I've never been someone who looks into the economic part of any security or virtualization solutions. That's handled by an entirely different team, and I don't even have the slightest idea about the costs associated with the solution, though I've heard pricing for VMware NSX is on the higher side."
"The pricing is higher than other options from Palo Alto, Fortinet, and Cisco because it is sold in a bundle."
"VMware has a subscription and perpetual license. In the New Year, they're changing many things about the licensing model. Previously, NSX was licensed according to the number of sockets inside the appliance, so we bought VMware licenses based on that. However, that may have changed this year. We are still contacting the vendors to understand the new licensing strategy."
"This solution requires a licence."
"The implementation of VMware NSX can be cost-intensive, especially if an organization is looking for a comprehensive solution. The costs can vary based on factors like the level of conversation and discounts obtained during negotiations. Some government organizations, for instance, may find the prices relatively high, leading to concerns about budget hikes, especially when deploying the solution across the entire organization. Regarding maintenance and support, they are typically included in the standard licensing costs for enterprise-level businesses. While these costs can be significant, many companies opt for standard licensing to ensure they have access to necessary support and maintenance services."
