Unified monitoring has transformed campus deployments and provides rapid EVPN-VXLAN rollouts
Regarding improvements to Arista Campus LAN Switches, nothing comes to mind about the switches themselves; they are really fast and have all the technologies and protocols that exist in the market. However, on the management system, I would improve it because as a network engineer, I want a chatbot that can communicate in a native language with the monitoring system to get answers regarding my network faults. There are no problems particularly with the product, but there is room for improvement regarding licensing and the chatbot for all Arista products.

Solution offers straightforward management and compatibility, though user support needs direct access improvement
Sometimes some features are not available. For example, the network discovery protocol, LLDP, is not available on some of the switches. When we look at the CLI management, we are considering Cisco, and we are familiar with the Cisco commands. In that case, at the command level, Cisco is much better than Aruba Instant On Switches. Considering the configuration and the CLI level and some of the features, Cisco has better offerings than Aruba Instant On Switches. There are Netgear and some other low-cost switches, but the quality of those is not aligned with our organization's requirements. Overall, I rate Aruba Instant On Switches a seven out of ten.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"The solution's most valuable feature is its stability because Arista falls in an industry that is very similar to Cisco."
"I use the solution for connectivity in data centers and LANs, providing Layer 2 and Layer 3 connectivity based on network needs."
"The feature sets are pretty cool. They've got almost everything that the competition offers."
"The technology is scalable as much as you want."
"The template functionality saves a lot of time and man-hours, which results in cost and time savings."
"The Software Defined switch architecture, runs optimized 2-tier network instead of traditional 3-tier network (Core, Distribution and Access) gives you efficiency and savings."
"The most winning feature of Arista Campus LAN Switches is their management, specifically CloudVision, along with features like comparing changes and diagnosing problems quickly with telemetry and network visualization."
"The management portal has improved the way our organization functions."
"The solution is stable and reliable with good performance."
"Regarding the feature, my clients are currently favoring it because it enables them to switch back to phone functionality."
"It is quite easy to maintain from the software point of view."
"The tool's best part is the commercials. Its pricing is lower compared to other enterprise products. We pitch the product to customers who have budget constraints. Its implementation is plug-and-play."
"The solution has a simple deployment and zero border."
"The simplicity of the tool's GUI is good."
"The creation of multi-VLANs, access list between VLANs, control, management, and the easy monitoring of switches make it a reliable choice for my organization."
"We have two support centers in Nigeria and we receive a good level of service."

Cons

"I think there's still room for improvement. Arista Campus LAN Switches are not highly scalable as they are hardware-based. If hardware requirements exceed capacity, the product needs to be changed, which can impact service."
"The licensing cost is pretty heavy. That is something that they need to definitely work upon."
"I would like to see a version available with eight or sixteen ports."
"One of the issues that we have been faced with here in Brazil is that we don't have any list times for delivery."
"One of the issues that we have been faced with here in Brazil is that we don't have any list times for delivery."
"We have to renew the license every three years, which can be a challenge for customers. Arista, like other vendors, now follows a license-based system."
"It would be ideal if the solution was less expensive."
"I do think they could improve their licensing model. Today, I need to pay for a license, for a switch, for support, and it costs money; it is not cheap."
"If Aruba can provide guidance on features through sessions or explanations, it would be helpful. We have to search and work online."
"They don't have a lot of diagnostics tools, which could be an area for improvement."
"Some models need enhancement of the web interface to make management and monitoring easier."
"It is not a very scalable solution."
"Some L3 features could be included in the solution."
"The solution does not have any console access. For example, if you do not have internet access on your side and you need to configure anything, you should at least have CLI access to do something or manage the solution to put to some IP."
"It could have an MSP portal version."
"In general, mostly in Instant On series, if we could have much more control on the switches, at least. We'd like a CLI access so that, when we want to do some advanced configurations we could."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"The only licensing costs are for CloudVision, although the upfront price of the device is not cheap."
"The price is not that good, but our clients value the solution despite the price."
"It is an expensive solution."
"The pricing is quite low compared to other products, which is good for the customer."
