Enhanced security through session monitoring and activity recording
From an end-user point of view, it would be beneficial if the system could provide information about the last login. This would help identify if the server was accessed by me or if someone has potentially stolen my credentials. It would provide a clearer picture of whether ARCON Privileged Access Management is accessed by an authentic user.

Secure access has transformed our audits and weekend operations run smoothly
StrongDM does not support multi-port and distributed clusters, as the raw TCP resource type is strictly single-port and cannot handle protocols requiring multiple concurrent ports or distributed brokers like Kafka. Third-party client compatibility is another area for improvement, as StrongDM is designed to work with the standard Microsoft Remote Desktop Connection on Windows but may not fully support alternative RDP clients like the Windows Store Remote Desktop.Additionally, StrongDM has limited MFA and passwordless options, relying heavily on time-based one-time passwords (OTP) or Duo, lacking support for true passwordless setups like biometrics or hardware YubiKeys, and it does not support per-session MFA. These are the drawbacks that need improvement for StrongDM.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"The product's deployment phase was easy."
"It was very easy for us to move this application and database from on-premise to cloud, as well as configure new things, such as load balancing. The product is very compatible."
"Pricing and licensing are good, very aggressive."
"ARCON will give you all the features in a very cost-effective solution."
"This product has helped us to protect privileged accounts and comply with password policies for privileged accounts."
"It gives us a lot of comfort in terms of security level. Our infrastructure devices and servers are secured and nobody can have unauthorized access to them."
"All features are available and cover all the use cases, like database, thin clients, file sharing clients, etc."
"Whatever we have paid, it is value for money."
"We primarily used StrongDM for access to resources on private networks like EC2 machines, Kubernetes clusters, and various databases."
"The best features in StrongDM are the password rotation capabilities, which I think are pretty cool, and also how you can literally log in to any of the privileged servers through a single platform."
"All of the logging is handled for us, including for auditing purposes. Looking through the audit logs is not a painful experience."
"StrongDM has positively impacted my organization by ensuring that every developer has access to cloud resources, which are audited by the organization, allowing us to keep track of who accesses what and control the access."
"The best features in StrongDM are that it is the easiest product in the market for this situation with easy access."
"StrongDM replaced the puzzle of different solutions with one single product, which made managing resources more efficient."
"By adopting StrongDM, we have achieved benefits such as eliminating our weekend outages, streamlining ongoing on-call workflows, enabling seamless migration with POC transitions directly into production with minimal effort, allowing our engineers to use their preferred SQL clients like MySQL, PostgreSQL, and Workbench, and facilitating compliance through detailed session logs and query capture for SOC 2 and ISO audits."
"Since using StrongDM, I estimate around a 60% reduction in effort compared to other PAM tools."

Cons

"One thing which needs improvement is where it is keeping video logs of Windows Servers, whatever activities are being carried out by the administrator. Because Windows logs are a video, they are unsearchable, so if you need to search for a specific administrator and what he has done on a server, right now you need to go through different video logs of that particular timeframe. I think they are coming up with an additional feature where in it can be indexed and can be searchable."
"The product is good but a lot of things can be changed, the way the system has been designed."
"We would like to see support for privileged accounts used in web-based systems like Blue Coat Secure Web Gateway, VMware ESXI management tools, etc."
"Bulk password automation is not available in ARCON when compared to other products."
"I think hazard flow could be improved, the data compliance part."
"The auto-password change feature which was recently added. It is supposed to change the password. However, in some cases, while changing the password, it has caused me to lose to connection due to network-related issues or something similar. What we need to have is a type of log for failure of password change."
"It should support the SQL Always On platform with FQDN name instead of IP, so where all the databases are managed centrally."
"We expect improvement in the dashboards to provide visibility of password compliance status, whenever a password is opened from the vault. Also, flexibility to customize the live dashboard."
"I think StrongDM could improve by focusing more on network device management by allowing the addition of PAM for network devices, managing legacy network equipment, or helping to initiate enterprise onboarding where a lot of complex environments and initial setup are required."
"I think the stability of StrongDM is about four to five due to the occasional crashes that I mentioned."
"StrongDM lacks the capability for web application injections or password injections, so we need to rely on other tools such as HashiCorp for non-human accounts or DevOps scenarios."
"StrongDM lacks the capability for web application injections or password injections, so we need to rely on other tools such as HashiCorp for non-human accounts or DevOps scenarios."
"Additionally, StrongDM has limited MFA and passwordless options, relying heavily on time-based one-time passwords (OTP) or Duo, lacking support for true passwordless setups like biometrics or hardware YubiKeys, and it does not support per-session MFA."
"Integration, however, is something which admins configure with StrongDM, and in that area, it can be improved."
"I rate the stability of the product five out of ten because crashes sometimes happen when we are working on it."
"We've had a few issues with the stability of this product in the past."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"The product is available with competitive pricing. Licensing is not complex. We calculated the license requirements by counting the number of admins and the number of devices which were going to integrate with it."
"I am not in a position to give any financials, but whatever we have paid, it is value for money. Their licensing model is good. They have been flexible for us."
"Pricing and licensing are good, very aggressive."
"The solution’s pricing is neither cheap nor expensive."
"Pricing is reasonable."
"Product pricing is based on users and connections. We did not have to pay more for additional features."
"Pricing is low and licensing is flexible."
"ARCON Privileged Access Management's pricing is reasonable."
"The licensing is per user per month."
