Easy to deploy, stable, and scalable
The solution is used for automating software processes for creating internet sites for internal usage. The solution can also be used to make the process easier for external entities. Appian can be deployed on the cloud and on-premises The solution helps by providing an automated out-of-the-box…

Provides data governance and offer good scalability, with a significant performance boost when moving from on-prem to the cloud
There are a few improvements which can be done. So those are on data governance and making an image of each object that is being created on top of Informatica, I mean, on top of applications. So those need areas to be improved. The logging methods are really traditional. So logging, in order to track any operations happening on this interface, will catch a log file. That needs to be more precise. In future releases as well, I would like to see additional features. So there is no platform where code conversion can happen easily. For example, if you want to move Informatica jobs in various areas, it's quite easy and straightforward. But still, you require some manual intervention for code changes that need to be done throughout the platform. So these things need to be improved. And other things are the compatibility of other services. For example, if you have a running Spark code and you want to run the Spark code into Informatica IICS, which is not compatible, so you need to rewrite the whole syntax to make it compatible. So those are the areas that really need improvement.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"The most productive aspect of Appian lies in its ability to develop interfaces, particularly user interfaces. Creating user interfaces is highly productive, when these interfaces are integrated with the original database. In such cases, using record types proves to be a very efficient method of handling data. The synergy between interfaces and record types enhances productivity."
"Low code development: Code can be developed pretty quickly which leads to less turnaround time for automation of business processes."
"There is a version coming out every six months with performance improvements."
"The solution has a lot of strong features for the financial industry, it is very easy to use."
"There is no need to worry about vulnerabilities in the system, because Appian built a secure system."
"Appian is a very low code platform. It's very easy to learn and use."
"The solution's most valuable features are the regular periodic and quarterly updates, they are very useful updates. They keep improving the solution more often, and that helps the platform or code always be up to date with the latest features."
"It reduces development time in half making us more efficient."
"The OAuth feature is the most valuable feature for authentication."
"The application integration will give you more flexibility when dealing with APIs."
"The interface has a great look and feel, and the functionality is so easy."
"The interface is really good."

Cons

"There are some restrictions with respect to using external components within Appian. So, for example, if we do not have a particular feature available, there's a long cycle of getting approvals and all of that. That does not offer flexibility, which definitely can be improved on."
"It would be useful if they could create an academy or forum in the future to help active users answer questions they have about the solution."
"The reporting is not as good as in similar products. They could also improve the dashboards."
"We would like to have more granular control for interface styling."
"Something I would like to see improved is an SQL database connection."
"The graphical user interface could be easier to use. It should be simplified."
"We would like to see more reduced latency. We would like to make sure that the scale-out factor will be much more as workloads come in."
"One room for improvement is the ease of UI UX development, like in OutSystems and Mendix."
"The setup is complex."
"The pricing model is problematic."
"There's no direct way to connect to Amazon APIs from Informatica Cloud."
"There could be a lot more application integration."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"The cost depends on the number of users, although I recommend taking an unlimited license."
"It's an enterprise tool and can be used by enterprise only. So it's a very expensive tool."
"The license is a bit expensive and the pricing model is sometimes confusing for new users or business users. It is difficult for them to know what volume of usage they will have to be able to purchase the best-suited license at the beginning."
"The licensing will be on a monthly basis. We are estimating that cost to be around $2000 to maybe $3,000 per month. We don't foresee any costs above that."
"The solution offers a monthly subscription model. That's what we use. I recall it being about $90 a month. They do have different tiers."
"More flexibility in the licensing model is still needed because initially there were customers who are looking at only one or two use cases of business areas, but now the business areas are changing and there is a larger scope. One license model may not fit everyone. They need to be a little more flexible on the licensing model."
"I think that if somebody is really serious at looking at business value, then by all means, the product is well worth the value. You get representative business value for the price that you pay for the product, and for the implementation of the product."
"It is fully managed, and I don't believe there are any additional expenses."
