Fast cloud deployment has transformed web hosting and automated infrastructure management
Akamai Connected Cloud (Linode) offers multiple valuable features. The best features include straightforward cloud server deployment that is very reliable. The interface is intuitive, along with object storage and strong API support for automation. The API support in Akamai Connected Cloud (Linode) helps me automate routine infrastructure tasks, such as creating or deleting virtual machines and managing DNS records while configuring resources through scripts or infrastructure as code. In those cases, I use the API model, which significantly reduces manual work and speeds up processes, helping me maintain a consistent environment. One of the most handy features is that it is straightforward, making it easy to manage. The control panel is also very user-friendly for managing servers, networking, and storage, with an interface that is clear and intuitive. Akamai Connected Cloud (Linode) has positively impacted my organization by providing reliable cloud infrastructure. I can deploy servers very quickly, scale up resources whenever needed, and spend less time managing the infrastructure. Specific outcomes since adopting Akamai Connected Cloud (Linode) include a significant reduction in time and effort required for server provisioning, which previously took an hour and now takes just a minute. This has helped me speed up development and testing. The predictable pricing has also helped control infrastructure costs, allowing me to track resource consumption and expenses better. The platform's reliability has contributed to stable application uptime.

Microsoft Azure VMware is an area that requires attention. I believe the VMware part should eventually merge with Azure as a single Azure platform, moving away from hypervisor-on-hypervisor architecture and instead bringing VMware features into Azure as native capabilities or as VMware-labeled features running in a true cloud environment. Some features should be brought in to achieve this integration. Additional improvements for Microsoft Azure VMware would include integration with Azure Site Recovery and disaster recovery capabilities. The ideal scenario would be VMware as primary with disaster recovery in Azure, connecting in a native manner. These improvements should be delivered as an integrated solution available out of the box rather than as separate components. Integration with other solutions such as Microsoft Site Recovery should encompass Azure native business continuity and disaster recovery with VMware. Microsoft Azure VMware would serve as primary hosting and connect natively to business continuity and disaster recovery capabilities with Azure. This should be available as a native feature.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"Because of the way that their pricing model is set up, I can scale up or down the size of a customer's server very easily. It makes life very easy for me when they run out of space, need more speed or RAM, etc. I can very easily pay the difference and reboot the machine, and now I have the upgrade that I wanted. That just makes it extremely simple."
"Their support team is just fantastic and phenomenal."
"Linode has been very reliable for us, we have had no downtime in the past year and during the past ten years I think that we have had less than 20 minutes of downtime in total."
"The cloud management panel is nice."
"It is also important that Linode offers worldwide coverage via multiple data centers. The ability to deploy on multiple servers, worldwide, allows us to have distributed services and failover and redundancy."
"I very much like the support that you get, and I think that it's excellent."
"They have a very nice web interface to allow you to manage and reorganize your server."
"Overall, Akamai Connected Cloud (Linode) is easy to use and has a fair price, making it accessible and straightforward, which is crucial when compared to other complex solutions."
"Regarding stability, it is like a five-star solution."
"The integration is very good."
"The capabilities are like a lift-and-shift operation for moving existing VMware environments to the cloud. The time for migration onto the cloud has substantially reduced."
"For new users, if you have a scalable environment where a VMware data center makes sense for your business, I definitely recommend AVS."
"Since organizations are already on VMware, they can lift and shift everything to Microsoft Azure VMware, allowing the data center to be moved as a whole rather than as separate servers."

Cons

"We did experience downtime on a couple of occasions and it was really bad for us, so pay specific attention to that and be aware of the risks."
"The main area for improvement is the lack of a backup feature to the local hard disk or storage."
"While Akamai Connected Cloud (Linode) is straightforward and smooth, there is room for improvement in offering a broader range of managed services and advanced enterprise features."
"One thing is if you want to scale up, then you cannot scale down."
"I'm not sure what could be improved at Linode since they're likely already making enhancements, especially with the Akamai acquisition and, I don't have any specific suggestions as I haven't encountered any major issues. I might consider using API for managing DNS records, but overall, I'm satisfied with Linode."
"The suitability of this solution depends on the features that you need. If you're an Uber-sized company then you're probably not going to want to start using Linode. If you are a large-sized organization then you're going to want to start using one of the bigger providers that gives you the scalability and the feature set that you are probably going to be needing in the future."
"Sometimes the solution gets a little slower and sometimes it's out of coverage as well. That's the reason we lost some of our potential customers and I was searching for other clouds."
"Because they are a smaller company, they do not have, for example, all of the ways for authentication that Amazon or Azure has."
"Well, sometimes they release product after product, so it's it's kind of hard to keep an overview of all the different aspects of of the solutions."
"Microsoft Azure VMware is an area that requires attention."
"Azure VMware needs to cater to smaller enterprises, as it is currently meant for larger entities. One improvement could be more support for mid-sized or scalable environments."
"The only issue is that a small challenge was found regarding the network...to have extended, smooth VLANs and everything else was a little bit complicated."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"When we started with the service, the cost was approximately €5 per month."
"The monthly cost depends on your requirements."
"The pricing model is very simple. If you have very small applications, you can use the plan which costs $5 per month. That gives you 50 GB of memory and almost 1 GB of RAM. If you need more than you have to select the next plan which is $10 per month, which has about 70 GB of data and 2 GB of RAM."
"Currently, we are at $40 a month but they have costly solutions as well."
"One key difference is that pricing is very hard to come by and to understand with all the bigger companies. Their pricing models are so weird and it's hard to figure out exactly how much I am going to pay for this kind of service. Everything is piecemeal. With Linode, it's simple and straightforward. You know exactly what you will have to pay at the end of the day."
"There are costs in addition to the standard licensing fees to include things like extra public IPs and backup services."
"Being that they are small, their prices are slightly higher than the large providers like Amazon if you compare raw computing power."
"I pay $5 per month for each of three servers, for a total of $15 per month, and I normally prepay a few months in advance."
"The solution is very competitive."
"To be honest, the tool comes at a high price."
"The mandatory requirements, such as a minimum of three nodes, make it expensive. The customers need to sign up for approximately $20,000 per month."
