Reliable image backups have protected our HMIs and simplified on‑premises recovery
We have not tried the vulnerability assessment feature yet because we have a different set of protocols for our cybersecurity. We conduct audits and plug the gaps as part of our security approach. We are not using AI with the anti-malware from Acronis; we are using it only for backup and recovery. On the backup and restoration side with Acronis Backup, some on-premises AI features which can detect anomalies may be something which would improve the product significantly. Otherwise, we are not very comfortable with cloud-based solutions at this time. We are looking for products which are entirely on-premises, so they remain within our control.

We use it to backup some high output critical physical servers, knowing that in case of disaster we could still recover to our VM environment. The user interface needs improvement.
The user interface needs improvement, the selection boxes to select a backup job are very small not adequate for managing 400+ backup jobs, we only see 8 job names in the small scroll window. The scheduler features are lacking, we must edit backup specs to reach the option to change the schedule. The new reporting feature has greatly improved the product, prior to this it was very difficult to have a full view of our backup schedules when scheduling a new job. Since the move from Syncsort to Catalogic, the quality control of upgrades has diminished and backups that used to work could not be restored without contacting Catalogic for a fix. We still see a lot of value in the product, but hope that the next few updates will not cause more issues... We wanted a mission critical enterprise solution, and sincerely hope that the future upgrades will bring the product back on track.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"While using this solution for my customers over the past seven years, data loss and other disasters have been prevented and where ransom attacks have occurred, we were able to restore the data where Acronis was used to back up information."
"Centralized management is valuable to us."
"For me, the cost is a significant advantage."
"I've reimaged servers and been back up and running in exactly no time with the completely new hardware."
"Previously I used Ghost from Symantec; I also tried other products at the same time just to make sure I was making the right decision, and there is no question that Acronis is better than everyone else."
"We have never had a backup fail because of the software."
"The stability of Acronis Cyber Protect is very high."
"The main reasons that our customers like Acronis are that it is very strong and easy to use."
"By implementing an OVF (docker based) and without any agents on your servers, you’ll get a system which provides you with: Orchestration, Automation DR and Data analytics."
"Catalogic has great features including the ability to P2V from snapvaults, and recently the addition of agent-less backups for Linux."

Cons

"The solution could be better if some of the features were more in-depth."
"When you are using enterprise hardware and software that increases over time, there need to be better and more management features. For pure backup software, it is fine, but when it comes to managing a large infrastructure it is lacking."
"Sometimes backups become corrupted and can not be access via the Recovery Console, You can send the backups too Acronis support (Could take months depending on the size of the backup) and they will try to recover the data, however rarely do."
"Requires a committed effort to learn this comprehensive software"
"However it lacks advance features like granular backup and data filtering hence unsuitable for enterprise level."
"They've got an agent to back up Microsoft SQL, to our Office 365, but there is not an agent to back up my SQL databases."
"They need to continue working on it to make it work more smoothly and faster."
"Because Acronis Backup is an on-premises solution, there is extra overhead. It's harder to manage, and there's no real remote access. You have to physically log in to the machine to manage it. The reporting feature works fine, and you will be able to send out reports. However, that is where it stops. The deployment could be improved and could be through a network chain. If we need to deploy two machines that are not connected to the internet but connected to two different networks, it would be great to have a machine with dual mix that has access to the backup server and to those machines. It would be like a relay that you can install on the machine with a two-mix, and that machine can then connect to your backup server and to the other machines. You should be able to see the other machines on that network and be able to deploy to it and push jobs to it."
"And hearing about all these awesome posibilities, it kind of struck me that this was only possible with NetApp storage."
"Since the move from Syncsort to Catalogic, the quality control of upgrades has diminished and backups that used to work could not be restored without contacting Catalogic for a fix."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"Our licenses come with a one-time yearly subscription fee."
"The price of Acronis Backup could be reduced, it is expensive."
"The tool is cheap compared to other products."
"It is very cost-effective for the SMB segment, especially for start-ups and smaller environments. It is cost-effective for on-premises and on-cloud deployments in such environments."
"I would rate the solution’s pricing an eight out of ten. The tool’s subscription is yearly."
"The cost of updates is less than $100 USD yearly."
"If the solution was less expensive it would be better."
"I think that the prices of the product go up every year. If one is extremely expensive and ten is absolutely cheap, I rate the product price as six."
