Apigee is the heart of the architectural design for building an integration layer in our digital transformation projects. Organizations need an integration layer to connect their legacy backend services with the external world, such as Fintechs. This layer must be secure, not just a simple pass-through or gateway.

Items around the mobilization of the API interface and the ability to automate validations for our APIs are the most valuable aspects.

The ease of creating policies has been the most useful of the solution's features. It's a quick ramp-up time. It's easy for our support staff to implement the policies in the API management layer.

The analytics function and the developer portal are the two valuable features of Apigee. The analytics part is very good, and the developer portal is quite rich in features.

Apigee provides out-of-the-box policies, so it is ready to use with minimal configuration to those policies. You can govern your API and manage the life cycle of the API completely with the Apigee tool.

GCP is improving the regular version control. There have been some challenges when we talk about the hybrid deployment model. For example, some runtime services' data was available only on the cloud, but financial institutions and other customers have requested more on-site data storage. This is especially important in regions where Google data centers are unavailable, such as certain areas in Africa, Asia, and the Middle East.

They have an external developer platform that was a little bit painful.

Since it is based on various open sourced projects, we might have to depend on the fixes provided by those components rather than Apigee directly fixing the issues.

The number one area this solution could be improved is by implementing support. Support is not a part of this solution.

The company needs to better support webhooks. It used to support webhooks and their policies and they have since stopped. They had some issues in the product and they abandoned the support for them. It's not come back since.

One feature they have to invest time into is the developer portal they use.

iPaaS is something that we would like to see. For example, MuleSoft is kind of an integrated platform as a service (iPaaS), and it provides a lot of out-of-the-box connectors and other such things. This is where Apigee lacks. I'm not sure if that's the roadmap for Apigee, but any improvements on those lines would be helpful where things become easier to implement.

Apigee is more of an entry level solution that does basic things pretty well, but if you want to go more customizable, you want to really look for another solution.

Apigee is demanding on the infrastructure so the setup cost is very high for an on-premises deployment.

The setup and installation process could be improved with a container-based system.
