Project Description

Successfully designed and deployed a highly available RKE2 Kubernetes cluster in a disconnected (air-gapped) environment. Configured a 3-node control plane and 2-worker node architecture with embedded etcd for fault tolerance and high availability. Deployed and configured Rancher for centralized multi-cluster management, monitoring, and administration. Set up a private container registry, mirrored required Kubernetes and Rancher images, configured DNS, networking, load balancing, storage integration, and security policies. Performed cluster validation, troubleshooting, backup planning, and lifecycle management while ensuring reliability, scalability, and security in an enterprise environment.

Lessons Learned

If I had to do it again, I would spend more time validating all mirrored images, registry synchronization, and network prerequisites before starting the deployment. While the implementation was successful, a more automated approach for image management, cluster validation, and configuration backups would reduce deployment time and simplify future upgrades. I would also enhance the deployment documentation to make troubleshooting and maintenance more efficient for the operations team.
