While there are still a few areas where Workato has room for improvement, they’re making impressive strides in advancing their AI capabilities and enhancing their RPA features. Their recent conference showcased significant progress in this direction and was truly a remarkable experience.

Regarding improvements for Workato, there was an incident when we wanted a specific feature implemented, and the process was quite lengthy as we had to raise a ticket, track the ticket, and wait for the team to address it. Given the millions of users of Workato, when a customer has a specific requirement, it reflects a possible shortcoming in team resources. However, it's understandable given the high volume of tickets, and I believe Workato may be working on this aspect by leveraging AI tools in the future, which points to this being more of a manpower issue than a critical flaw. I believe the process is already efficient, and I don't think I'm in a place to suggest improvements since I find Workato very amazing and well-kept.
The customization capabilities could be enhanced significantly. Having used other integration tools such as Boomi and MuleSoft in the past, the features in Workato appear to be at a primitive stage. The support team has limited ability to assist when issues arise. Workato should improve their customization capabilities for complex scenarios that cannot be handled through drag and drop options. While they offer options for writing Ruby scripts, the functionality is not advanced enough. They should implement functions or internal mechanisms that allow users to write custom code for complex scenarios that cannot be accommodated by drag and drop features. The deployment process in Workato is complex because new versions require copying rather than overriding, forcing users to perform numerous manual steps to maintain the latest code.
In my opinion, Workato's licensing model could be enhanced. They have evolved from a recipe-based licensing system to a task-based one, which can be limiting for productivity. An open licensing option would allow for unlimited usage, which would simplify management, although there could be downsides such as paying for unused capacity. Additionally, Workato currently cannot handle huge loads of transactions, which is a significant drawback.
In Workato, there are some limitations regarding very high transactional data in file formats. For instance, we have a 90-minute job timeout, and queues larger than 10,000 size will be purged. Additionally, processing large files requires chunking them into smaller sizes. The team is actively working on customizing the platform per client requirements and is rapidly releasing features to address these limitations.

I am currently in the exploratory phase. While the cloud-native aspect is beneficial, having deployment options similar to MuleSoft would be a great additional feature. Their approach aims to remove complexity from development. However, in situations with banking clients or others who prefer keeping functionalities at their own data center, having a mechanism to provide deployment options for private data centers would be beneficial.

Currently, Workato is a low-code platform without native programming capabilities. I would appreciate having a dedicated programming language for tasks like transformations and functional programming. Although the drag-and-drop framework is easy, incorporating a coding language could enhance functionality.
More features related to the application side would be handy. A larger library of community recipes and connectors around common but complex applications, such as Microsoft, could be beneficial, as they are often complicated to handle.

There are several areas for improvement with Workato. Integrating on-prem applications is challenging, even though they have an on-prem agent. It also has issues with handling large amounts of data, as performance decreases with larger datasets. It cannot handle more than 50,000 records effectively.

One area for improvement is the CI/CD pipeline, which lacks a version control system similar to GitHub ( /products/github-reviews ) for easier deployment. Though it has a recipe life cycle management, it does not automatically integrate with a GitHub-like facility. Additionally, the cost for high volume integrations could be reduced, as Workato uses task-based pricing, which can become expensive with higher usage.
The data flow and debugging processes need improvement, especially for tracing issues. Additionally, Workato struggles with scalability when handling high volumes of data, such as terabytes, requiring chunking for initial data loads. While it works well with moderate volumes, it requires enhancements to handle larger data volumes more efficiently.
Workato's Extract, transform, and load (ETL) and extract, load, and transform (ELT) are not very strong and could be improved for very complex transformations. Workato's licensing model is a bit confusing, and it's not very transparent. They charge for SAP, but then there's a cap on the number of transactions as well. I found it very difficult to understand how each transaction is considered.

Since it's been promoted as a low-code and no-code platform, it is tedious to make a tailor-fit function. Trying to extend the customization limit becomes a challenge as the platform is not code-friendly. It is a challenge to make tweaks and create custom features.

They have the major connectors available, but they still need to improve them. A limitation is that their cloud presence is only in North America and Europe. They don't have anything in the Middle East or India. So they need to expand their base for companies that don't want to leave their country or region.

Like every product, it constantly needs to be updated because the industry and applications keep changing, but we are very impressed. I can't really see many areas of improvement because Workato is bringing out new enhancements to the product every couple of months. We don't have any complaints. The only minor drawback would be if there was a UI at the front of it, for apps and for a portal as well, it would make it really easy. It would be really useful if there were more apps capabilities.
