You have to be very careful with one specific service inside Microsoft Azure Synapse Analytics which is called the Sequel Data Warehouse Dedicated. It is very reliable and performs well, but it's expensive. You need to define the tier well because you can choose between several tiers and you have to define which suits your needs and not overperform the tier because it's quite expensive.

I'm not sure of the exact cost, however, it is around $100,000 a year.

The solution can get expensive, and it's hard to monitor the costs. It does depend on how you utilize it. You can configure it in a certain way.

It just depends on how big your instance is. It could be anywhere from 1,000 to 50,000 per year depending on how big your instance is. You pay based on how big you make your database. Essentially, they charge you per hour of usage.

Our license is about $5,000 per month, but it's $5,000 to $10,000 per month when you factor in services and everything else.

There's no license required for Microsoft Azure Synapse Analytics. the model is more of a use-based system. You got to pay for computing power and disk storage. Everything has different units and is kept backed up. Microsoft Azure Synapse Analytics uses storage units(SU). This is how everything's computed for cost.

Price varies by use-case. You pay for the database itself in addition to any consumed data within Serverless plus other fees if you use the Data Factory that is inside.

Price is dependent of the use case of the customer. Customers are not likely to only use this as an individual platform/database, they are likely to bundle it with the Azure stack.

The costs are billed such that we pay for what we use, which is a good thing. For example, we have an environment where we don't need access to certain services, so we don't have to pay for them. Compared to the services available on AWS, this solution is a little bit pricey.

The type of license depends on what you want. This is a perpetual and monthly license, similar to Office 365. My company pays for the license and I am not sure about the price. Sometimes my company wants to have a micro business case study to see if it is an actual benefit for us to purchase. It is a strategic solution and we have to make sure that the organization understands this is going to save them money in the long run.

There is a license for Azure, and whether it's a monthly or annual payment depends on the agreement you have with Microsoft. A long-term plan is more cost effective.

It requires a less expensive version because currently, not every customer is able to buy it. If it could have a smaller setup that doesn't require so many resources, it would be helpful, and we would be able to use it in more cases. We are a small country, and most of our customers are quite small businesses.

We normally pay between $300 and $500 per month, which is quite expensive for how much we actually use it, performance- and usage-wise. They have a cheap version and an expensive version, and our usage usually falls in the middle ground, which makes it not as cost-effective as it could be.

The cost of the licensing depends on the size of the warehouse, where the cost of storage is approximately $130 USD per terabyte. The charge might be several thousand dollars or more each month. There are multiple options that are available at an extra cost. For example, the advanced threat protection costs an extra $25 USD.

There is a cost calculator available online that allows you to input your entire scenario, and it will get back to you with information on what the costs are going to be. You can adjust it to include different requirements to best suit your budgeting needs. Microsoft also offers suggestions on what you would need based on your account. Microsoft is trying to be more competitive and wants to be very accommodating.

This solution starts at €1000.00 a month for just the basics and can go up to €300,000.00 per month for the fastest version. It's pay as you go, so you never know what your bill is going to be beforehand, and that's scary for customers. If you have someone who makes a mistake and the program's a loop that is running all night, you could receive a very expensive bill. The bad side to pay as you go is that sometimes it can stop the enthusiasm of the data scientists, as they are afraid to run a query because they are afraid of the bill and how much it will be.

How does Amazon Redshift compare with Microsoft Azure Synapse Analytics? Which is better and why?
See 1 answer
Nov 1, 2021
Amazon Redshift is very fast, has a very good response time, and is very user-friendly. The initial setup is very straightforward. This solution can merge and integrate well with many different databases. It scales very easily and has a good cost-benefit ratio. It is very powerful and performs well. The data processing is very fast and can do analytics on the fly. Amazon Redshift should have more cloud-native tools that integrate with it as Microsoft does with the Azure ecosystem. There is some missing functionality that can make Redshift difficult to work in. If you are analyzing a lot of data, the load performance-wise can be very low. Microsoft Azure Synapse Analytics can handle large amounts of data - in the petabyte range. You can scale up and down as much as you want. It has a pay-as-you-go protocol, so you only pay for what you use. The speed is very good and the architecture is excellent. You are in control of what you need, which is a huge advantage. Microsoft Azure Synapse Analytics can be a very complicated product to use. The setup can be very complex. We had some issues with dashboard reporting - we found there were bugs in the platform when dealing with specific types of queries. This solution did not meet the necessary security protocols for some of our clients. Conclusion Both of these solutions are very stable, scalable, and flexible. Each of these products has their own unique ecosystems that are very competitive with each other, making them both great solutions to use. Although they are very similar, there are some features and functionalities that make them unique and attractive depending on the type of enterprise you operate. We are a smaller enterprise and overall our team felt based on ease of use, support, and where we are headed, we have started to migrate everything over to an AWS ecosystem and chose Amazon Redshift. It is the solution our clients liked best as well.

If you are dealing with semi-structured data like json Snowflake has great support in handling and querying json data. it is also good to use as data lake and can act as one stop solution for a data lake and cloud data warehouse. query performance and low maintainability is also what makes snowflake a great choice.
