What is our primary use case?
How has it helped my organization?
From a purely testing perspective, we've been able to implement continuous testing models based on our release pipelines. We run at least three hours of testing every night automatically through ValueEdge and hundreds of hours of regression when we upgrade certain applications.
What is most valuable?
OpenText ValueEdge is flexible. It does whatever we need it to do. The Quality module is far superior to any comparable tools in the market.
What needs improvement?
It's hard to learn the best practices. It is hard to keep up with changes. There's a lot of great improvements. We don't always know about them. There have been a lot of changes in the suggested uses of the product over the last five years. There are some things that we don't even know about.
It would be nice to have an idea of the vision of the use of the product compared to how we're using it. For example, the solution is so customizable that we can create a form and drop half the fields. However, someone else might think the dropped fields are important for AI. I won't be using it because I don't know. So, my results will end up being substandard because of it.
For how long have I used the solution?
My organization was using Octane. Then, when it became ValueEdge, we continued using it.
What do I think about the stability of the solution?
The tool has excellent stability. It has an occasional downtime.
What do I think about the scalability of the solution?
The tool is scalable.
How are customer service and support?
The product's support team is absolutely horrible. If it weren't for our customer success manager saving the day constantly, we would be gone. We can get the answers we need once we get past the frontline support. Once we get in touch with the developers, they are excellent.
Frontline support follows scripts. They don't think. They don't understand. They don't take the time to process the requests. They simply follow the scripts that were given to them.
Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?
We were previously using ALM/Quality Center, and it simply wasn't keeping pace with the changes and application delivery management processes. We were presented with ALM Octane. It was just more modern and had more capability. ALM/Quality Center was reaching the end of its life. It had old workflows and was locked into the waterfall methodology.
How was the initial setup?
The initial setup takes planning. It's not difficult, but it takes time. It takes time because we want to do it right. A lot of the time involved is spent evaluating the current processes and determining what to clean up before starting with a new system. It would be the same with any system, in my opinion.
What was our ROI?
We see a return on investment in the tool.
What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?
The product's pricing is on the high end but has value.
Which other solutions did I evaluate?
We also own Azure DevOps. We have had Jira in the environment. As part of the selection, I was familiar with the other products and liked ValueEdge best.
What other advice do I have?
ValueEdge gives us improved visibility across our SDLC, but our SDLC is weak right now. ValueEdge has helped us save time when it comes to testing and quality assurance. The combination of ValueEdge and UFT One has allowed us to reduce probably one and a half staff annually. It has saved us 60 hours a week. Our product team is not using ValueEdge. You get out what you put in. If you did not implement an end-to-end platform, you would suffer.
Overall, I rate the solution a nine out of ten.
