Ease of developing dashboards and receiving strong technical support have enabled efficient data visualization
Introducing custom features, such as NLP-based reports, is not very good in Tableau. My MD has been asking us for a way to write in natural language to request reports that the system should generate, but that isn't very effective with Tableau. As a developer, I can develop an on-demand report in Python quite easily, but exposing a REST API on the Tableau platform is not a very easy task. AI enablement is an area for improvement for Tableau, and that is something they might have to work upon. I have heard that ThoughtSpot is quite better in this regard, but the cost of ThoughtSpot is much higher. ThoughtSpot has lots of natural language-based report generation features that Tableau lacks.

I can now create more meaningful charts--radar, donut, pareto, scatter, range, point, boxplot, etc., but it doesn't support Linux or commodity hardware.
* The tool is very easy to use, we got on-premise training from Panorama, within days we were proficient enough to play with the tool. * The customer service is very responsive, they answered our queries. * I saw lot of people complaining about the lack of community forum, but they do have a forum which is quite active. * The tool is extremely easy to use, with a click you can import data and create the visualizations. * The things I like most is it supports variety of charts, I was quite bored with my previous BI tool which mostly supported bar, line and pie charts. I can now create more meaningful charts radar, donut, pareto, scatter, range, point, boxplot, etc.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"It's a very powerful data visualization tool."
"All features are valuable, it is very user-friendly, and it is mostly drag-and-drop, so if we have the dataset available, then we can develop any dashboard very quickly."
"Any feature I am looking for usually is part of the next upgrade within a few months. They have a very good dynamic evolution."
"Its dashboarding is the most valuable. It is easy to create visualizations and dashboards and import Excel sheets and ESP files in Tableau as compared to other tools."
"Tableau's most valuable features are user-friendliness and have a connection between multiple source systems, and you can publish a report by using Tableau Public and make your data online, not only batches of data, but you can also use it as an online analytical tool."
"If you have the budget, go for it; it’s the best money can get you."
"I believe the most valuable feature of Tableau is the flexibility it offers with regard to the types of visualizations the user can create."
"It's the ease of use, the quick deployment from developing it and then moving it on to our servers, and it is also a self-service tool so it decreases the burden on having centralized IT-type teams or developers."
"The tool is extremely easy to use, with a click you can import data and create the visualizations."

Cons

"The placement of sheets on dashboard are quite tedious work, especially when the page is long."
"Even Power BI is better than Tableau because there are many things that are good for the business."
"Number of out-of-box visualizations can be increased."
"It would be great if the licensing cost per user was cheaper."
"There are certain things that I would want it to do, but it wouldn't be something that I could easily describe."
"Overall, the only major frustration that I have had so far is with Tableau Public. I first used Tableau Public when I was building capacity, and when there was a later release to download and you wanted to upgrade, all your work would have to be manually re-entered."
"The cost of owning the solutions from Tableau is much higher compared to any other analytical solutions."
"When it comes to large datasets, the data should be extracted faster."
"No support for Linux or commodity hardware. Limited support for big data analytics."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"Licensing fees are paid on a yearly basis."
"Its price is higher than Power BI and QlikView. Tableau costs around $70 per user per month, whereas Power BI is around $8 to $9. QlikView is around $30. Tableau has various prices for various models such as Creator, Designer."
"The solution's licensing is based on user-basis. It depends on the business ROI it offers. It's not on the higher side or too cheap; it falls in the medium-cost range. The price is determined by user usage, so the cost will also increase as the number of users increases."
"Its licensing cost should be improved."
"Paying for users you never setup or buying expensive desktop licenses for users who can solve their users with web editing on the server are the two biggest expenses."
"It's an annual fee with everything included but it's quite expensive."
"There is a license for this solution and we pay on an annual basis."
"There is a license for the use of this solution and it is on a per-user basis. The server is free but the users you have to pay for."
