Quotes From Members
We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use.
Here are some excerpts of what they said:
Pros
"If a job is pending, the solution communicates it to us through emails.""The interface is very user-friendly.""The solution allows us to block off our network and only give access to whatever we want.""The initial setup is straightforward. It's not that complicated. Deployment took maybe about 15 minutes.""It has File and SQL backup, which is the main benefit for us.""The user interface is good.""Its dashboard is quite well done. When you log into the GUI, you can basically see everything you need to know. There is also the possibility to edit the view as you like, which is great.""Having the web-based interface is important to us because we can access it from any computer in the network, rather than having it installed and available for use only on a specific one."

"The most valuable feature is flexibility.""I have found the Media Server Deduplication tool, deployment policies, and agentless features to be the most valuable features.""This is a complete solution, everything is under one console.""This is a product that has been on the market for a while and they have mastered the backup process, especially when backing up to tape, for most environments.""It is important, when we chose a solution, that the customer service/technical support team could help us when we needed it, but the support was good.""The solution has been very good over the years at fine-tuning various aspects of the product so that it is continuously made better.""The main features of this solution are deduplication, compression, ease of use, simplistic user interface, and compatibility with all the backup service systems.""Management interface was simple to use once understood."

Cons
"The stability of the solution is poor.""There are certain issues with the product that we report to Quest, and we get offered a workaround instead of a fix. There could be better interaction with the development teams, perhaps in terms of transparency.""The initial setup is a little complex.""The product’s SQL backup plugin needs improvement.""In the next version, I would like to see support for the MongoDB database. As it is now, there is no component that works with it and we cannot back the data up using NetVault.""The storage capacity is very low.""I would like to see the option of cloud-based management.""There are command-line limitations. There is not a very strong possibility to work with the command line. The commands that are there are not that powerful, and you need to be very good at scripting, for example, in PowerShell or in Bash in case it is running on Linux systems. You need to combine a lot of commands together, and still, you will not get a great output that is presentable to others. You cannot work with it as easily."

More Quest NetVault Cons →

"The solution costs too much.""This solution would benefit from a more friendly, web-based interface.""Setup implementation.""I would like to have support enabled for cloud backups.""There could be granular control over metadata components, specifically in the context of JSON data for the product.""The solution could have a more clear dashboard about the license and the operation status.""NetBackup is a very old product, and it is based on Linux, which is not user-friendly.""It's a little bit complex to manage."

Pricing and Cost Advice
  • "The price of our 12-month contract is approximately $1,500 AUD ($1,100 USD)."
  • "When we purchased four licenses, we were given a very good price. However, it is still on the high side when compared to some other vendors."
  • "The tool is expensive."
  • More Quest NetVault Pricing and Cost Advice →

  • "Licensing was very expensive and did not scale well if needed to move between license models."
  • "Smaller virtualized environments will want to stick to a traditional licensing model if possible. It will likely be cheaper, but it is a pain to manage all the individual licenses for each client."
  • "So far I can only say that the license structure could be looked at to be aligned as either capacity-based or traditional."
  • "If you have a complex environment with dozens of different servers and apps, I recommend you look for TB licensing."
  • "The software and license are very expensive."
  • "Pricing is pretty costly as compared to the other products but worth investing for the long term and high ROI."
  • "Acceptable if you need to implement it for larger environments, e.g. over 1000 clients. For smaller setups it might be too expensive."
  • "The licensing model is cost-prohibitive as you scale out."

    Reviews from Real Users

Mahdi B., Solution Architect and IT Consultant at Merdasco - Rayan Merdas Data Processing, says, “Veritas integrates well with the cloud, all databases, all operating systems, all hardware, and all software. Veritas also has solid malware and ransomware protection features. From time to time, we face a new kind of attack, and Veritas has always proven to be the best protection solution for some of my customers. Our customers who have faced ransomware attacks were able to recover their data in less than one day without any stress. Veritas is ransomware resilient and because of its implementation, it is not dependent on the operating system to work. Most of the functions of the Veritas software are isolated from the operating system and it's not dependent on the operating systems involved. This is very important. When some of our operating systems are infected by a virus, Veritas still works perfectly and protects our data. This feature is very well implemented in Veritas NetBackup.”

A PeerSpot user who is a General Manager at a comms service provider relates, “Veritas enterprise has many agents who perform the backup, whether it is a consistent backup or recorded backup. The solution has everything from the snapshot to the multiple database agents.”

Mir-Ali, Infrastructure Manager - Oracle SCM at a financial services firm, shares, “It covers all kinds of different architectures. Plus, it's very user-friendly and it is very reliable. Reliability is the most important thing because once the backup is done, if it is successful, then we're sure that it was successful and we will be able to restore it.”
