Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"The most valuable feature is the Posture Assessment."
"The filtering feature is good."
"It has excellent scalability."
"It offers robust solutions, making it valuable to my customers."
"We use the product on our Azure network firewalls."
"Palo Alto Networks VM-Series has everything centralized. You have the VPN solution, firewall, routing, UDR, flexibility, updates, and full visibility of your traffic."
"Centralized management is valuable because it allows us to configure settings in one location and apply them across all three locations."
"The main advantage of Palo Alto Networks VM-Series stems from the fact that you can access it with the help of cloud services."
"Technical support is very responsive. You just have to open a ticket. They respond in a timely manner. Their response is good. I'm satisfied."
"The most valuable feature is NetFlow threat protection."
"Real-time threat analysis is quick and takes action on threats immediately."
"The most valuable feature is Click-time URL protection."
"Technical support has been helpful and responsive."
"They manage to solve detection quite nicely. There is some rather elaborate detection compared to other providers."
"What I like most about Symantec Advanced Threat Protection is its notification capability."
"You don't have to buy a separate email security platform. You can enable that using their endpoint, and I like that. You don't have to have two agents running on the same box."

Cons

"I would like a way to do everything programmatically, or be able to copy the configs from different prices at different levels."
"It has to be more scalable for the deployment of VMs on the cloud."
"There could be dynamic DNS features similar to Fortinet in the product."
"I would like to have automatic daily reporting, such as how many users have connected via SSL VPN."
"The initial setup of Palo Alto Networks VM-Series was somewhat challenging, requiring extensive documentation review. I rate it a six out of ten for ease."
"There are various reports that come with the box or with the VMware, but you can only run them daily."
"Palo Alto Networks VM-Series needs to improve its order process."
"The disadvantage with Palo Alto is that they don't have a cloud-based solution that includes a secure web gateway."
"The security features need to be improved."
"They could enhance the solution to work across all devices, including Android, iOS, and Mac, and make it more user-friendly."
"There are some ‎features that would add value to this product. One of them would be a graphical presentation of threats that the system has encountered."
"It's a strange situation where the infrastructure of the consumer or customer is behind some kind of firewall and they have always used some kind of customized proxy. In this situation, the ATP has a very tough time to pass the information to the cloud and back. To fix, it requires a more elaborate and complex configuration for that particular case."
"It also needs network-based threat protection for shared folders and files."
"One area for improvement could be the pricing model."
"The support for new OSs and older OSs could be a little tighter. They need to be more upfront about what protection services they're going to provide on new OSs. I haven't seen the Windows 11 version out yet. It is either already released in Beta, or the Beta will be released soon. There could be a little bit more advanced updates on what they're doing to help protect Windows 11 environments. They can let us know in advance so that we know it is going to be protected. We can't roll out the new OS without putting end-point protection on it. So, they should tell us what is their support model for that, and what are they doing to protect Windows 11. They're not telling me, and that's a criticism. The same issue is applicable to all the other antivirus tools. It is not just Symantec; all of them have this problem."
"Not ideal for advanced threat protection."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"I know Palo Alto is not cheap. They have been telling me, the members of the finance team, it is not a cheap solution. It is a solution whose target is that no matter how big your organization is, small, medium, or large, it is about the maturity of your security team or infrastructure team whom you want to work with."
"The cost of this product varies from customer to customer and the relationship with IBM, including how many offerings from IBM are already being used."
"Do not buy larges box if you do not need them. Rightsizing is a great task to do beforehand."
"It is not the cheapest on the market. The total cost for two firewall instances is $75,000. This includes licenses, deployment fees, and support for two years."
"The solution is a little bit expensive compared to other vendors."
"The licensing is pretty much like everyone else."
"There is a need to make payments toward a yearly subscription-based model in which you need to add modules that you want to use in your company."
"AWS is available as a AMI that you can purchase from the AWS Marketplace. Therefore, you need to purchase the licensing, since it is per AMI. Then, you deploy it on a regular EC2. Then, for on-premise, you can use both Palo Alto's software and hardware."
"The pricing of this solution is inexpensive and affordable."
"Symantec Advanced Threat Protection's pricing is comparable."
"The price is quite expensive."
"Symantec Endpoint Protection has an average price."
"Pricing is good. It is nice to have a great product at a fair price."
