Secures data loss for our law firm but has struggled with outdated, complex management
On a technical level, when I draw a comparison between McAfee Complete Data Protection and CrowdStrike, McAfee Complete Data Protection is a one out of ten, and then CrowdStrike is a ten out of ten. I say that technically McAfee Complete Data Protection is so low because the console and the portal haven't changed in almost ten years. It's had some slight visual improvements, but that's it. It's not really working in a modern portal the way that some of the enterprise apps like CrowdStrike actually work. McAfee Complete Data Protection is also very difficult to use. It takes a lot of time to get my head around how it actually operates. It's not very intuitive. However, in terms of pricing and the specific use cases that I have, it's good.

Manager at a manufacturing company with 5,001-10,000 employees
Good support, stable, and offers encryption at both the column and table level
The most valuable feature is the data encryption option for columns and tables. We are also getting the benefit of detection data. If I want to share data with another Oracle user then the data sharing is automatically detected. We don't need to modify anything. This is a complete security solution and all of the features that we are using are available off the shelf.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"It is capable of acting as Web control, Device Control, or Data Control."
"All features in this solution are valuable, but it depends on its function."
"The McAfee Threat Protection and McAfee Web Protection are valuable aspects of the solution, and they're better than other features that come with the endpoints."
"With McAfee Complete Data Protection, you can managed all your security solutions from one single server and one interface. This might be the most powerful advantage of McAfee's solution."
"I'd recommend the solution."
"The product is excellent, however, it is very complex to implement from scratch, therefore, it’s good to have a partner that can assist you and help you with the setup."
"The solution is excellent for protecting users from data being exploited, and it's also great for preventing data leakage."
"The beauty of McAfee is that they are not looking at encryption from one single standpoint, it is a broader solution."
"Overall, it is a good solution and I can recommend it to anybody who wants to encrypt columnar data and protect it against theft."
"The features that are the most used by the customers and partners are, at the moment, for GDPR, so obviously data encryption and data reduction. Our customers also like the partitioning option."
"The most valuable feature is the data encryption option for columns and tables."
"The features that are the most used by the customers and partners are, at the moment, for GDPR, so obviously data encryption and data reduction are the most valuable to them."

Cons

"The product is excellent, however, it is very complex to implement from scratch."
"This solution does not do as well at protecting the end-user against unknown viruses."
"Some clients still receive spam and malware in their attachments, so the data protection isn't working correctly. We have configured it and enabled the features in the client's system, but some policies have failed to work once or twice."
"The price could be improved."
"The refresh feature needs improvement. You need to refresh it manually by going to the address bar, clicking on it and pressing enter, or pressing F5."
"What I'd like to see in the next release of the solution is for its pricing to be more cost-effective because some competitors have cheaper pricing, so McAfee Complete Data Protection can't compete."
"Maybe a better GUI platform; that would make it easier to present information to management, so I would not need to fix the data before I present it."
"I think in looking at this as to how it can be improved, the drive encryption side is not as straightforward as it could be. It is a little bit heavy on the configuration part."
"It is really constrained as an environment because you cannot change something that would be useful."
"Encrypting a single column is straightforward, but encrypting at the table level requires more work and takes longer to complete."
"It is really constrained as an environment because you cannot change something that would be useful. It is a very good product because it is very similar to what you have on-premises. Yes, it is constrained, but it is expected because it is a platform as a service so it has to be constrained."
"Having a single command to encrypt a table would be an improvement."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"The pricing is quite reasonable compared to other vendors."
"The price of this solution needs to be improved."
"The pricing is better than that of some competing products."
"The solution is more expensive than one of its competitors."
"I think the price could be a little bit less."
"On a scale of one to ten, where one is a low price and ten is a high price, I rate the solution a seven."
"When it comes to pricing, I've observed an increase recently."
"The cost of McAfee Complete Data Protection isn't that high but isn't that cheap as well, so it's in the middle."
