Allows users to view updated information daily without having to log into the system.
Graphical and dashboard information could be improved upon, especially with the level of customization. More complex graphs need to be written in code, instead of being able to use the default functions. Our business does not have the skills to use, for example, SQL, to write graphs etc. We are therefore limited to the “default” graphs which are set to pie, bar and scatter etc.

Microsoft Power BI has many features and there is not a lot to improve. However, the licensing can be confusing. When deciding between Pro and Premium, I find it difficult to distinguish what features are offered by Pro and what features are offered by Premium, including the particular differences to choose between both licensing models. Additionally, some features such as DAX, which I mentioned previously, involve DAX calculations and complex data modeling, which are somewhat advanced and not easily understandable. Prior knowledge is required or you need to go through the documentation. If the documentation is made comprehensive so that anyone with no knowledge on DAX can easily use it by going through the documentation, it would be really helpful. Additionally, if the integration with non-Microsoft tools is improved and performance is optimized, then Microsoft Power BI can become a top-ranked visualization tool. The user experience with Microsoft Power BI is quite good. The intuitive user interface makes it easy for both technical and non-technical users to create reports. However, only the advanced features are somewhat complex, and if the documentation is improved, it can be easily accessible.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"The technical support is excellent."
"The biggest improvement comes from a do it once, refresh many concept, where users build their reports once and then simply refresh the data, giving them a lot more time to perform analysis, which is the real added value to the business."
"Microsoft BI stack is very easy to use and most of the developer versions are free such as Power BI, DAX, SQL Server Development Edition, which helped us with quick prototyping to generate value from data resting in silos."
"We have a lot of servers and applications from which we want reports, and it allows us to create reports from an SQL source or some other source."
"There is also a chart store where we can download charts, which is extremely useful."
"It provides easy integration with Office tools."
"The scalability overall has been quite good."
"Microsoft BI has helped the creation of a powerful analytical tool able to detect inconsistencies in different customs and tax declarations/returns and thus allow the Tax Administration to have a full taxpayer view from the fiscal point of view."
"The stability is good."

Cons

"Graphical and dashboard information could be improved upon, especially with the level of customization."
"The upgrade process could be improved."
"I would like to see the product offer more graphics to impact different audiences."
"When there are large amounts of data being processed there are additional tools needed to handle it."
"The few things I mention below constitute very strong reasons why Microsoft has essentially abandoned the platform and why I agree with them."
"There's always room for improvement for Microsoft Power BI, especially for the UX and the menus to make it more accessible to business users."
"When you go to the cloud, its licensing is not intuitive. It is a little bit complex."
"The visualization aspect, while being the most visible to business users, also happens the be the weakest point in the entire Microsoft BI stack."
"Because of performance issues and because we're unable to do all the aggregation, I rate this solution six out of 10."

"Globally, we evaluated a number of products, including Salesforce's product, Microsoft won on the ground of simple functionally and cost."
"The price of the solution can be expensive if you want to synchronize your data more."
"I think it's a good price, from what I've heard. I know it's competitive with other Power BI tools."
