Affordable and provides visibility into what the users are doing with the data
The file integrity monitoring feature is difficult to manage because some files are confidential while others are not. We use a different tool to classify the files as confidential and non-confidential. The sensitive data discovery and classification features are not of much help. It is a difficult process. The controlling features must be improved. The interface must be improved.

Insider threats have been detected faster and internal data exposure is now controlled
Regarding how Mimecast Insider Risk Management and Data Protection can be improved, sometimes the tool is slightly laggy, wherein it would take some time for us to fetch the related logs from the Mimecast portal, and that of course can be improved. There could also be a graph or a kind of a graph where, if the organization has a smaller number of employees, it is fine, but if it has a large number of employees and different departments, then in that case, Mimecast could give us an AI suggestion upon how to improvise the current security posture, how we stand and where we can go up to in terms of implementing or tweaking the policies. As the organization's size gets bigger, it would also be better if Mimecast could provide some solutions upon how to segregate the users into groups and what groups can have which policies. Those kinds of features can be added. Regarding Mimecast Insider Risk Management and Data Protection's AI capabilities, I think its governance and security could improve as I am not entirely sure how it works. It would be helpful if Mimecast could, as the AI capabilities are in place, maintain a strict governance policy upon the data that is being processed, especially for user personally identifiable information. As insider risk management sometimes also gets into the personal details of the user, organizations might be hesitant; even we are also hesitant to use the AI capabilities. If Mimecast could provide more information about how they store the data and whether the agents are local agents or cloud-hosted agents, that would be of great help for the organizations to consider its AI capabilities while adhering to the compliance needs of a particular organization.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"The detection and alert features are valuable."
"The product’s strict policies are its best features."
"This has been the easiest, most reliable backup product I have ever used."
"Customer Service: Exceptional Technical Support: Exceptional. Always get a native English speaker."
"Customer service is great; the best I have had with any company."
"Stop evaluating. Purchase CrashPlan. Implement it. Go spend time on other IT initiatives because CrashPlan just works."
"Endpoint monitoring and data backup from Code42 and their software Crashplan has been a great piece of software for our organization, allowing our IT staff to troubleshoot and restore data to machines that may have un-recoverable data due to damage makes it significantly easier."
"CrashPlan has proven to be a backup AND restore solution when other solutions were only "good" at backing up."
"This backup solution seems to be the best on the market."
"Since implementing Mimecast Insider Risk Management and Data Protection, I have seen specific outcomes such as achieving zero incidents over the last five years."

Cons

"The interface must be improved."
"The vendor must provide a cloud solution."
"The GUI doesn't always show the most current settings upon opening a screen."
"There doesn't seem to be any feature that is lacking."
"Improvement-wise, just because I have other clients who use Abnormal and Material Security, I can say Mimecast Insider Risk Management and Data Protection's dashboard is not that user-appealing, where someone would actually go through their dashboard and figure out metrics."
"Upgrade process a bit time consuming, but worth the time."
"Java needs to go away."
"In a couple of instances, we had a little bit of trouble in getting it distributed throughout the organization. We ultimately managed to do it, but they talk about it being a pretty simple process, and it became a little laborious. It would just turn away. The agents were not being distributed. It was just churning and churning and churning. When we were looking for specific categories of data, it was getting bogged down, but that was not even so much Code42, although some of it was their issue."
"Other than licensing issues and limited amount of data storage, but that is expected with scaling."
"If anything, make integrating cloud storage a little bit easier - I'd love to be able to choose the cloud I'm going to push to, but it's hard to find instructions for doing that."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"The pricing is reasonable."
"It used to be a good solution for SOHO in particular as it had unlimited storage for a reasonable price. However, their pricing model has changed and they are now primarily targeting enterprise users."
"The pricing is reasonable. It's my understanding that the cost is about $7 for unlimited storage in the cloud per server."
"It is 100% worth the cost to get and keep the support, especially when setting it up."
"It was expensive. It was more expensive than Eureka, and it was more expensive than Barracuda Backup, but what we got was a full team. They didn't come in and nickel and dime us. They provided the assistance we needed. They didn't say that they need to charge us for something or it is going to take another statement of work. It was all bundled into it... We pay for the software maintenance. It is probably 18% or 20% of the license fee for rev releases."
"They were the best solution and surprisingly enough, the cheapest."
