We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use.
Here are some excerpts of what they said:
Pros
"It assists in managing the active directory and modifying the reintegrated GPOs.""I like the user behavior analytics (UBA). It's a machine learning feature that creates a standard profile for each user when you install it. It creates a baseline for every user, so it can detect when anyone deviates from that standard baseline profile. For example, if a user typically logs in at 9:30 am and logs out at 6 pm, ADAudit will flag it as an anomaly when that same logs in after normal hours and alert the admins.""The most valuable feature is the control of the file server.""Real-time monitoring of AD changes and logons is valuable.""ADAudit Plus's best features are that it's very easy to use with a user-friendly interface, and it gives reports on group policy and object changes that we couldn't find in any other product.""We use the product to track events and monitor logs of servers and workstations. I am impressed with the tool's tracking ability. It is intuitive and easy to use.""The monitoring and reporting are extensive and we get all the information we need while they continue to enhance the capabilities of the product.""The documentation for this solution is good."

"The initial setup was relatively easy, and we didn't have to install anything. All we had to do was put on the devices we wanted to monitor.""AppInsight for SQL: Enables us to see the relevant error log entries on the same page as performance parameters.""The component and cable monitoring are good. SolarWinds is more intuitive and user-friendly than AppDynamics. The AppDynamics console is more complex because it's a more feature-rich solution, so it's not easy for somebody to pick it up.""It's good at monitoring system-specific things like ports, services.""SSL Certificate Monitoring and Expiry Alerting""The application dependency feature identifies issues between applications and servers or within the network where the application is hosted. It highlights related problems, whether related to packet processing or other issues, enabling the creation of alerts and reports accordingly.""I'd rate technical support at eight out of ten. They are helpful and fast.""Monitoring the components on your devices with out of the box monitors or the ability to create new ones (SAM)"

Cons
"ADAudit could have a more sophisticated interface design. They are using a plain UI, which is decent. However, customers have said that it looks a little flat compared to other vendors. It's not fancy.""It assists in managing the active directory and modifying the reintegrated GPOs.""ADAudit Plus can be very tricky, especially if we need to do some high-availability configuration or distributed environment installation.""The solution's managing file server activity could be improved.""The initial setup was quite complex and required some research beforehand.""Sometimes the developers in technical support take time.""There are so many reports that it sometimes makes it difficult to navigate to what you need.""The solution should include more details on file creation and modification. It also needs to have a quick message for troubleshooting problems which needs to be detailed and generic."

"SAM AppInsight for SQL: The ability to ignore fragmentation of specific indexes.""I would like to see support for non-Windows or non-Microsoft domains, especially Apache and other non-Windows servers.""One area that could benefit from improvement is its performance""A lot of times, we have to do a lot of manual cleanups.""An additional feature that would improve this solution is the ability to complete root cause analysis.""The templates could use improvement. Currently, they are quite complex. They should have drag-and-drop functionality instead. It would make it easier to use.""It needs time-based functions for monitoring. Some things need to be polled on a specific schedule or only during a specific window.""Mapping interactions between systems."

Pricing and Cost Advice
  • "Adding features and other functionality it costs you more. Also, the first installation costs an additional amount."
  • "ADAudit Plus's pricing is affordable and flexible, with very low prices in the market."
  • "My guess is that it was around $4,000 or $5,000 a year, and we bought a license, and then we have maintenance fees. I'm not 100% sure how that worked out."
  • "It's a medium-priced solution."
  • "The solution's pricing is acceptable."

  • "I have always said SolarWinds is very “proud” of their products, meaning they are expensive. I cannot afford to purchase all the licenses I need for all the SolarWinds products."
  • "When planning for the number of licenses to purchase, make sure you understand all of the elements within an application required to really understand performance well. In our case, we quickly came to the conclusion that an unlimited license for SAM was the way to go."
  • "Nagios XI, WhatsUpGold, Uptime Software, PRTG, Manage Engine, and SpiceWorks are the other tools that have lower pricing and licensing costs. However, they can't compete with SolarWinds when it comes to the features and functionality that SolarWinds can provide."
  • "I would advise potential buyers to wait until the end of the quarter, end of year, or other time to place orders. There are actually great deals to be had at those times if your budget cycle can match up."
  • "Pricing and licensing is fair for what you get. It does have a great bang-for-the-buck appeal."
  • "SAM is not per server so the pricing model can be deceiving. If you have an enterprise environment, you will quickly exceed your licensing quickly. You should know this before going in."
  • "Understanding the counts of objects to monitor will determine the licensing need. In terms of pricing, it’s not cheap but it’s not expensive as larger vendors whose products don’t have all the features or integrations."
  • "The product might cost you $30,000 USD to buy, but scaling this solution requires the purchase of additional polling engines at $20,000 USD each."
