Process-Level CPU Visibility: Introduce detailed CPU-usage metrics per subsystem (e.g., IPS engine, logging) so administrators can quickly identify and address performance spikes.
Analytics with FortiAnalyzer. Being able to pull in logs not just from our FortiGates but from all our other firewalls and then get them in one view has been a game changer. Whether I’m building an executive dashboard or doing a deep dive forensics session, I get everything I need without navigating consoles.Straightforward Application Control. FortiGate spots and blocks unwanted apps (eq. like BitTorrent or streaming services) with accuracy. Segmentation with VDOMs. We’ve carved our data center into four logical ‘mini-firewalls’ enterprise, core, billing, and WAF—all on one box. Each has its own rules and logs, and any traffic between them still gets inspected. It’s like having multiple appliances without the extra hardware. Always-Up-to-Date Threat Feeds. Daily signature updates and AI-driven threat sensing mean we’re blocking the latest vulnerabilities almost as soon as they’re announced.

Robust security measures and cost-effectiveness meet diverse industry needs
The biggest benefit of Juniper SRX Series Firewall overall is that it is rugged and cost-effective, offering basic firewall features and additional licensed features as needed. The main challenge I see as a distributor is Juniper's rating in the Gartner report, where Juniper is not a leader in enterprise security, which often influences customer conversations. Most customers want to check the Gartner report before they engage, making it challenging to sell Juniper security. With my extensive experience with the Juniper SRX Series Firewall, the robustness of the SD-Cloud or Security Director interface and overall functionality needs to be improved to compete with leading firewall solutions.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"The most valuable features are the enterprise modeling and the simple interface."
"The inspection and web security features are most valuable."
"When you start looking at the cost of the license for all the things that you get, Fortinet is by far the best option."
"My company never had any complaints about the tool in terms of performance or stability."
"The CLI and GUI do a good job of putting a lot at your fingertips."
"The most valuable features are SD-WAN, application control, IPS control, and FortiSandbox."
"The way the rules are created and set up on our firewall is very quick, very simple, and does not take a lot of time, allowing us to spend more time in other areas."
"The product has an inbuilt IPS software. We can configure it to block specific anonymous attacks that are happening."
"The reason that we picked Juniper SRX is for the scalability, the fit for purpose, the tools that are available, the ongoing support and the ability to monitor, but particularly for the virtual routers in our data centers so that we can quickly upscale them when needed, when we need more throughput."
"From a protection perspective, it provides a network perimeter security function for our company."
"Juniper SRX is stable."
"The solution has been good for fulfilling our basic needs."
"The solution has absolutely high stability."
"In terms of valuable features, Juniper firewall filtering is good."
"It helped us with its routing capabilities which eased the cost, because otherwise I would have had to take a router and firewall, and then integrate it. With this, however, it was an integration of firewall and routing services all together in a single product. That was one thing that I loved about it."
"The virtualization feature is the most valuable feature. Sometimes customers are requesting a private connection using mobile data when they are connecting to remote sites."
"The stability of Palo Alto Networks CN-Series is excellent."
"The app inspection is very helpful for network security."

Cons

"The only issue that I have is with FortiNAC. The firewall is fine, but the FortiNAC interface is a little bit too jumbled or too complicated, not as straightforward as it is on the Fortinet FortiGate firewall and FortiAnalyzer."
"One point against them is that their solution lacks a unified approach."
"FortiWAN was supposed to help in doing intersite linking, but we've realized that most of the ISPs use BGP."
"The only problem that we have here in China is that the whole subscription process on Fortinet is a little bit difficult if you are doing it from China."
"I would like to see improvements in Fortinet FortiGate regarding the active-active scenario. The active-active scenario is supported but not recommended, whereas other vendors are implementing active-active without issues. Perhaps in the future, we could effectively use both firewalls to increase the throughput. If there are two boxes, they both should be able to work."
"Integrating OpenVPN with FortiGate would provide a powerful combination of secure remote access and comprehensive network security."
"FortiManager has not been my favorite. I don't use it and cannot say I really care for FortiManager for managing the firewalls."
"One of the main reasons we're considering switching from FortiGate is because many companies have a lot of features and you don't have to pay for."
"I would like to see endpoint control and endpoint testing security."
"The pricing strategy of the vendor could improve."
"It is a good solution, but firewalls don't seem to be an area of development for Juniper."
"There is room for improvement in scalability and performance. It's scalable and reliable, but when using next-generation firewall features, the performance decreases significantly for Juniper SRX."
"The workplace management console needs improvement. It should be a little bit more developed. Also, the interface needs a bit more improvement."
"Web management needs to improve."
"The solution's initial setup process was lengthy as I was new to Juniper."
"The GUI."
"Palo Alto Networks CN-Series could improve on its pricing as it is quite expensive."
"I'd like to see more IOPs features."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"Its pricing is good. The advantages of Fortinet FortiGate over its competitors include good pricing and meeting our requirements at a lower cost."
"I would rate the pricing a seven out of ten"
"Fortinet FortiGate is cheaper than Palo Alto. It is about 20% cheaper."
"The price is highly competitive when compared to other brands that offer similar functionality."
"Fortinet FortiGate IPS' licensing is quite simple to understand."
"Fortinet bundles FortiGate with other products and because of this, the price is a little expensive to some SMB enterprises."
"Pricing is lower than Cisco."
"The platform offers a reasonable price point compared to its competitors."
"It has a low price."
"When you consider performance, price, and features, maybe Juniper is not so cost-effective compared to other solutions like MikroTik."
"The direct support with Juniper is expensive. When you stop using the solution and miss one year of payments, if you want the support back on a specific node, they ask you to pay for the year that you haven't used the node."
"In my opinion, the Juniper SRX Series Firewall is cheaper than other products."
"Small enterprises or telco have variant licenses, and this licensing should be improved."
"Juniper SRX is reasonably priced."
"It is best suited to an enterprise-level, as the mid-range companies may find that the cost is not affordable."
"I rate the solution's pricing as a four."
