Secure branch connectivity and automation have improved, but clustering and support still need work
I think Juniper SRX Series Firewall could be improved or enhanced because maybe a year or two ago, Juniper began producing new boxes such as SRX 1600, SRX 2300, and SRX 4300 and 4700, which are excellent products. They are only one unit high but have very good performance and a lot of different ports, supporting from 1 gig to 100 gig ports. Juniper also has series SRX 300, but it is an old firewall and not very powerful. I believe that maybe in a year, they will transition to another series, such as SRX 400. However, the functionality of Juniper SRX Series Firewall remains the same. The differences involve performance, quality, number of ports, and types of ports in different models of Juniper SRX Series Firewall.

It works well with a highly-active cluster.
It is important for us in case of a disaster, or in case of a failure of one server. This means that the high availability is the most important part for us. It is important for us that the system is available and no connection is going to be lost if the system is restarting one note, or something like that. This is the main request for us for a good firewall protection product.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"Juniper supports their products very well."
"Juniper is one of the most powerful network security solutions while remaining simple to use, set up, and scale."
"For the routers, every feature is quite essential and this is a complete router."
"In terms of valuable features, Juniper firewall filtering is good."
"We're primarily using Juniper's EPA feature, but not the other things. We use it to manage different points of firewalling of routing."
"The user interface is good."
"It helps us perform our daily jobs."
"If you require any particular rule that needs to be modified, any particular rule that needs to be fine-tuned, the solution will give you all the details regarding how to fine-tune the policy, including the destination, IP, et cetera."
"High availability is very consistent and provides good firewalling and stability."
"It works well with a highly-active cluster."
"We did not have issues with scalabiliy."
"It has given us better application control."
"The stability of the product is fantastic; it is a really proven system and I never had any type of problem where the system was unstable or had a software failure."

Cons

"If a user needs a more sophisticated next generation firewall feature or threat intelligence themes, I'm not sure they'll get that with SRX devices."
"Improvements can be made to the GUI. The GUI can be improved by creating policies to handle IPS requirements. The configuration should be a one-step process. This would make it easier to complete the setup to register the time of operation."
"The reporting is lacking."
"it would be more powerful if Juniper brought out a security product other than the firewall, like anti-spam, endpoint protection, etc. Customers who want to deploy security solutions are not just thinking about firewalls... Juniper should have an end-to-end solution, from the endpoint to the network level."
"It would be good if Junos had "unique commands" between all hierarchical levels, discarding the use of the "Run" command."
"In some cases, customers encounter issues related to network interfaces, while others prioritize security concerns."
"We purchased three devices and all three have been replaced under RMA."
"J-Web, Juniper Web, is sometimes not working great when users are increasing their internet use. Additionally, they need to improve the GUI, graphical user interface, and the firewall management needs to improve. Their CLI is good, but sometimes the GUI is very slow."
"The hardware needs improving as we had a lot of problems with the hard drive reliability, both with the firewall and the intrusion protection system."
"HA failover is not stable."
"After some experience with the solution, we had to do some redesign, but generally, we were happy with the product."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"The pricing is very inexpensive which is the main reason I bought the solution. One device costs around 50 EUR through the University's vendor who is modernizing our network."
"When you consider performance, price, and features, maybe Juniper is not so cost-effective compared to other solutions like MikroTik."
"I find the price to be reasonable for an enterprise-level solution."
"It is not that expensive."
"In general, their price definitely couldn't be cheaper."
"The direct support with Juniper is expensive. When you stop using the solution and miss one year of payments, if you want the support back on a specific node, they ask you to pay for the year that you haven't used the node."
"The price is reasonable."
"Juniper SRX Series Firewall is worth its money."
