Enables customers to manage security effortlessly with intuitive features and easy integration
In terms of improvements for Fortinet FortiGate, they could offer evaluation licenses, as compared to Meraki, which provides a 90-day evaluation. In Fortinet FortiGate, they do not provide standard evaluation licenses; instead, we need to request them from the OEM through the account manager for POCs. If we want to conduct a demo, we need to work with real hardware. In comparison to Cisco, we have DCloud, which helps with providing demos to customers, but in Meraki, I need to reach out to them, book a lab, and they need to provide all the hardware. I need remote access and L3 engineers to program it; only then can I offer a real-time demo to the customer.

Advanced threat prevention has protected our perimeter and simplifies daily security operations
Check Point Quantum Force (NGFW) can be improved in several areas. First, the interface could be a little more intuitive for new users. The Smart Console is powerful, but it has a steep learning curve when you start using it. Some simple functions for common tasks would help. Second, the initial setup and configuration take quite a bit of time and expertise. It would be helpful if there were more guides, wizards, or templates to speed that up. Third, the price model could be more transparent and flexible. The license cost can add up quickly, specifically when you want to add more advanced features. Finally, I would appreciate seeing better integration with some third-party security tools we use. Right now, we have to do a lot of manual work to make everything talk to each other. Overall, these are minor things. The core product is really solid and does what it is supposed to do very well. The documentation could be more comprehensive in some areas. When we run into issues, the documentation does not have clear answers, so we end up contacting support. Speaking of support, the response time could be faster sometimes. We have had cases where we need help with a certain security issue, and it takes longer than we would prefer to get a response. As for features, it would be nice to have more general reporting options so we can customize reports for different teams and stakeholders without having to do manual work afterward. One more thing, better mobile access to the dashboard would be helpful. Sometimes we need to check on security alerts when we are away from the office, and the mobile experience is not as smooth as it could be. Again, these are improvements that would make it even better, not issues with the core product itself.

Computer Framework at a healthcare company with 1,001-5,000 employees
It works well with a highly-active cluster.
It is important for us in case of a disaster, or in case of a failure of one server. This means that the high availability is the most important part for us. It is important for us that the system is available and no connection is going to be lost if the system is restarting one note, or something like that. This is the main request for us for a good firewall protection product.

Pros

"This product is definitely scalable."
"I never encountered any stability issues; it is a very stable product."
"Good load balancing feature."
"The main reason why I purchased the particular unit was that it had good reviews and what other people were saying as far as its completeness and its leading capabilities in terms of endpoint security was very good."
"This is an easy solution to deploy."
"The ease of setting the solution up is a valuable aspect for us."
"Fortinet Secure SD-WAN delivered the lowest total cost of ownership (TCO) per Mbps among all other vendors."
"Fortinet FortiGate has very good support."
"The Check Point architecture and packet are very good."
"Previously, I used Fortinet but Check Point provides us with more features."
"In my company, there have between ten and 15 firewalls on-premises, and if I want to configure or push the same configuration to all of the firewalls, then the centralized management system is easy and very helpful."
"I would rate the overall solution ten out of ten."
"On a scale of one to ten, I would rate Check Point NGFW a ten; it is excellent."
"Once we got the Check Point, we could use the same device for multiple roles, which reduced the cost a lot."
"Its functionality is highly satisfactory."
"The product has improved visibility into the traffic going through our network."
"High availability is very consistent and provides good firewalling and stability."
"It works well with a highly-active cluster."
"The stability of the product is fantastic; it is a really proven system and I never had any type of problem where the system was unstable or had a software failure."
"It has given us better application control."
"We did not have issues with scalabiliy."

Cons

"They could improve the response time and quality of support."
"One point against them is that their solution lacks a unified approach."
"Fortinet's support team consists of a huge networking team, because of which there is a delay in response at times."
"The only issue that I have is with FortiNAC. The firewall is fine, but the FortiNAC interface is a little bit too jumbled or too complicated, not as straightforward as it is on the Fortinet FortiGate firewall and FortiAnalyzer."
"The stability could be a bit better."
"The tech support is not excellent; this is where Fortinet saves money compared to others... But plenty of free, clear and public documentation is available and this compensates for the most part the tech support shortcomings."
"I feel that the reporting needs to be improved."
"If you have the firmware version 6.4.3 and are using FortiLink in VLAN, it has trouble with tunneling networks for a wireless network; it won't give it a route to the internet."
"The cost is pricey."
"The presentation of the reports need to be more user-friendly."
"Potential improvements could be made around simplifying VPN functionality and configuration."
"We also use Cisco, and, in comparison, Cisco's support is way better in terms of how helpful and responsive they are."
"The last issue was in India so that was pretty bad."
"Documentation for Check Point Quantum Force (NGFW) can be improved, especially the KB, knowledge base, for some parts of the configuration."
"Technical Support needs improvement, especially the L1 engineers."
"The end-user VPN could be improved. It could benefit from some modification."
"The hardware needs improving as we had a lot of problems with the hard drive reliability, both with the firewall and the intrusion protection system."
"HA failover is not stable."
"After some experience with the solution, we had to do some redesign, but generally, we were happy with the product."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"We purchased a five-year bundle package, which worked out cheaper than competing solutions."
"The pricing is based on a licensing model for each IPS in your environment."
"The pricing is better compared to other solutions like Check Point, Arista, or Cisco."
"Compared to other firewall products, it's a little cheaper in terms of pricing."
"The pricing for the product is alright."
"The license is yearly. We pay for the top end. It's called 360."
"Its pricing is competitive with other solutions."
"They need to be competitive with other solutions."
"The pricing is a bit high, but obviously it gives you advanced features. If you want to buy the best thing on the market, you have to pay extra money."
"When comparing the price of Check Point NGFW to other solutions it's difficult to compare because even though everything is included in the Fortinet price, there are large differences between the models. You need to go to a quite expensive Fortinet firewall to receive the same throughput and functionality as in a Check Point firewall. In the end, they are quite similar in price, Fortinet might be a bit cheaper."
"I don't see that Check Point is very high, but it is geared more towards enterprises."
"The cost of the pricing and licensing are okay. They are giving me a good product as far as I know. It is more expensive than Cisco, but cheaper than Palo Alto, which is fine. It has many good features, so it deserves a good price as well."
"For the firewall, there is a limitation on the license. We are facing some problems with mobile access. We have a license for 450 licenses of VPN users. We would like Check Point to have more than that, e.g., if the organization gets bigger and there are more users, then that will be a problem."
"Licensing issues may be confusing at times."
"The licensing fees are paid on a monthly basis and I am happy with the pricing."
"Check Point solutions are very expensive here. They're good, but they're expensive... Check Point is only useful for customers that have a big IT budget."
