It is easy to use with access via CLI and GUI. It also has good stability I am not able to answer this question. Features which could be improved include the search functions and the database size. From what I remember it wasn't very easy to search for specific objects or rules. One issue I…

Rapid VPN setup has connected offices in minutes and brings live insights for proactive issue control
What I appreciate the most about Netgate pfSense is the ease and straightforward nature of the platform. I can set up a new office in less than 10 minutes. The benefits of using Netgate pfSense are that I can set up VPNs in less than two to three minutes, and then just deploy the file across my networks, where everybody would be connected in less than an hour. The dashboards of Netgate pfSense bring all the necessary information that I need at a glance, and it is actually a live update every three to five seconds. It is spotless, and I have been able to catch issues before they hit operations.

Pros

"It is easy to use with access via CLI and GUI."
"Retrospectively, I would definitely recommend this product because of its functionalities, its reliability, and the good support."
"Juniper NetsScreen is a pretty straightforward firewall appliance which is certainly a good fit from mid-size organizations to big enterprises."
"It improves my workflow a lot because I can concentrate more on my work knowing that pfSense is guarding my network."
"A good firewall has to be easy to install, configure, use, and fit the use case."
"The most valuable features of Netgate pfSense are the ease of use and GUI."
"Creation of certificates and the facility to administer services are valuable features."
"By installing pfSense and configuring load balancing and limiting bandwidth, we now have a reliable and stable connection."
"I like pfSense's security features."
"pfSense pricing is extremely competitive, and it delivers exactly what is advertised."
"The most valuable feature of pfSense is that it's a stateful firewall. I also like the way the rules are implemented on the firewall. It makes things much easier to see at a glance."

Cons

"Features which could be improved include the search functions and the database size."
"The initial setup was quite complex."
"There has been some remote accessibility issues at times with older models."
"We do a lot of managed services and are currently trying to get people off of L2TP VPN. Apparently, we can download a mobile config file from a configured NetGate device, and we're primarily Apple. We've experimented with it on a device that's not a production device, and we can't seem to get the phase one IPSec set correctly so that the Apple config will accept it."
"It is best practice to remove all installed packages before you do an upgrade because most upgrade failures have to do with having installed packages."
"Currently, you deploy it, and it performs as expected, but there are no analytics or reporting capabilities to extract information from the firewall, generate a report, and engage stakeholders in discussions about network connectivity issues, concerns, or upgrades."
"The documentation doesn't align with what I'm seeing on the console."
"Adjustment in the interfaces: I had to adjust those interfaces manually and of course that is a great feature that you can restore it but it is immediately also one point for improvement. If you don't have to adjust, if it's just stamped and it works, that's great."
"A way to clean squid cache from the GUI."
"My only observation is about the quality of the IPSec logs, which are difficult to interpret and are poor in filters."
"We're doing a lot of OpenVPN tunnels, and some of the fields in the OpenVPN setup on the server side do not lend themselves to multiple sites. It's kind of ugly. It's a big list of allowed IP addresses. I'd much rather see that via the table individually."

Pricing and Cost Advice

Information not available
"I buy the appliance and accept whatever comes with it, but I am not bought into paid support. When it comes to the pricing of the appliances, they are pretty competitive. The price is pretty competitive."
"We are using the open-source version which is free. We are testing the solution to see if we are going to go to the enterprise version which requires a license and is not free."
"It is a free solution."
"Its price is pretty fair."
"Their pricing is quite reasonable."
"pfSense is open-source, but the support is something that the customer pays for."
"pfSense offers a surprisingly affordable enterprise-grade solution for small businesses."
"It is about €1,000. It is a one-time payment. I do not have a monthly or yearly subscription. I don't subscribe to any subscription because I hate cloud services. There are no additional costs."
