Unified directory and device management has streamlined remote workforce security and onboarding
JumpCloud can be improved in several areas. Some users feel the initial configuration can be complex, especially for larger organizations, and better guided onboarding could be helpful. Additionally, while its reporting and integrations are strong, more granular and customizable metrics and real-time alerts would be beneficial for advanced use cases. From my team's perspective, there is often a desire for even more intuitive administrative controls, particularly when managing complex policy sets. Enhanced integrations with specific industry-specific applications could provide even greater efficiency. It is about refining the user experience and expanding compatibility. Another area for potential enhancement could be customer support and resources. While generally good, faster response times and more comprehensive or specialized documentation could further improve the user experience, especially during complex deployments.

Regarding performance and speed scenarios for JupiterOne, queries sometimes take too long, especially when dealing with large datasets or complex graph relationships that can slow down significantly. There is also a steep learning curve, as J1QL, their query language, is powerful but requires time to learn. New users struggle initially, and better onboarding tutorials are needed. Rate limiting issues can be frustrating, as API rate limits sometimes cause problems. Price transparency for JupiterOne is an area for improvement. The price is not publicly listed, so you have to contact sales for smaller teams or startups, which becomes a barrier. Another issue is alert noise, as sometimes too many alerts are generated. Better filtering and prioritization are needed so that critical issues do not get lost. JupiterOne is very good when compared to other cloud asset platforms overall.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"Some of the most valuable features of Jumpcloud have been the use of the policies. They have been very helpful. There are modules in there for policies where you can create your own which indirectly are GPOs similar to what you have for Microsoft environments, however, they are only doing registry changes. They are very powerful and useful. Additionally, having your directory and SSO in one spot is another thing that they provide in application management. Adding, removing, and updating applications are in one place for desktop administration."
"Azure Cloud services are on time and run well and if we use a JumpCloud, the benefits we receive are the ease of management and the solution is completely user-friendly. End users can do identity management easily."
"JumpCloud has positively impacted our organization by drastically improving our security posture with better control over access, and we are definitely saving considerable time with automated onboarding and device management, allowing us to focus more on strategic projects."
"The whole product is great. The device management is amazing. The fact that you can basically set up an entire machine without having the machine in front of you is most valuable."
"The product enables device management."
"The usual authentication and authorization, which were all controlled into one portal, are very convenient."
"The most valuable feature is the ability of the product to integrate all applications."
"After deploying to the cloud, we had remote device management on all of our corporate laptops."
"The product’s UI is pretty decent and fast."
"JupiterOne helps us aggregate all those things on one single platform, allowing us to quickly identify what environment that asset lives in and what type of asset it is."
"I have definitely seen a positive return on investment from JupiterOne in a few concrete ways."
"Using JupiterOne, I have observed an increase in transaction success rates to 99% without improper data, translating to 99% time saved."

Cons

"Lacks the ability to have various VPN applications."
"I chose to give it a nine out of ten because I see the need for improved security levels in JumpCloud, including more security features."
"The visual tool and interface must be more fine-tuned."
"JumpCloud can improve in its synchronization of identities. More specifically, groups with Office 365. They've been working on it, but it's not where I would necessarily like it to be."
"JumpCloud can be improved in several areas."
"I have not seen a return on investment from JumpCloud."
"I would like AWS to integrate more cloud platforms with JumpCloud, such as Alibaba or Oracle."
"The querying for users in Jumpcloud could be improved, it is sometimes difficult to use. When you're trying to query a user and you spell out their name, you don't receive that person. Sometimes you receive a list of people with the same first name or last name. This could be better."
"JupiterOne could improve regarding the cost, as enterprise deployment can be costly."
"However, the compliance module has not worked well, and we have had to continue tracking our compliance manually with the tools we use."
"You can only write Python queries in Jupiter, not other languages, like, SQL or PySpark."
"Regarding performance and speed scenarios for JupiterOne, queries sometimes take too long, especially when dealing with large datasets or complex graph relationships that can slow down significantly."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"We are using an enterprise license for JumpCloud. We have purchased a license for approximately $3,000 a year, but we are charged more than $135,000 annually."
"Licensing cost can be anywhere between $2 and $18 a month depending on what you want to do."
"The solution is pretty expensive."
"JumpCloud offers several subscription plans as a software-as-a-service (SaaS) provider. The pricing is based on the number of users and the services that are required, meaning that you only pay for what you consume and don't have to pay for services that you don't need. When compared to other solutions, JumpCloud can actually be more cost-effective, as it eliminates the need to hire a team, purchase hardware, pay for licenses and software, and worry about updates, security, and backups. Thus, it offers a more efficient and cost-effective solution for managing your needs."
"The pricing model changed about 18 months ago. It used to be that you got 10 users free, and then you paid for any user above 10 users. Now, when you go above 10 users, you pay for every user. It has become a bit more expensive, but it's such a good product. When you take into account Microsoft licenses, if you were to run Active Directory, you'd need a server to put it on, or you would need a couple of servers, backup, etc. It's a no-brainer. JumpCloud is so much easier to manage from my perspective, regardless of the cost increase. It's just brilliant."
"I rate the product's pricing a five on a scale of one to ten, where one is cheap, and ten is expensive."
"The cost was around $5 per user per month."
"The pricing is all on the JumpCloud website. It's not hidden, you don't have to go through a show me a quote type procedure. The pricing is straightforward to understand."
