Easy to use, stable, and easy to install
We use this solution for the Ministry of Defense and the special agencies It adds value to our existing platform, and therefore our system becomes more important for the customer. The most valuable feature is the ease of use and the full reach of services. It's pretty decent, and I don't see…

Has improved network visibility and security through micro-segmentation and SDN capabilities
This feature gives us flexibility and allows us to manage everything under one pane. We can see everything on one console, including network operations and behavior. Monitoring and security are among the best features for VMware NSX. For micro-segmentation, it's integrated with our endpoint security. If there are any issues with servers or VMs, it notifies us so we can isolate the servers and investigate. It provides distributed security features such as firewall and intrusion, IDS, IPS. The security level with IPS and IDS in VMware NSX is excellent. It also provides logical switching and routing which gives an extra layer for Layer 2 and Layer 3 switching requirements. The solution provides flexibility, automation, and self-service capabilities, resulting in cost savings as extensive expertise isn't required. Once automation and self-service are implemented, many tasks can be completed automatically. Load balancing is another excellent feature. Multiple servers can run on load balancing features, which is particularly useful since we have many application servers running. Sharing loads between servers provides the best performance.

Pros

"It adds value to our existing platform, and therefore our system becomes more important for the customer."
"The most valuable feature is the ease of use and the full reach of services."
"NSX's stand-out function is the distributed firewall. The firewall system is just top-notch, and I haven't seen another solution like it."
"NSX extends Layer-2 scalability on Layer 3, covering the vRO and extending the capability on Layer 3 by decapsulating using a new mechanism."
"It's changed the way we do things."
"It has allowed our customers to scale extend their existing IP subnets and spin up new subnets on-demand for new app web DB tiers, increasing overall VM-to-VM security and policy deployments and helping increase operational efficiency from a network management perspective."
"The most valuable features are the micro-segmentation and integrated security options."
"NSX is one of the simplest network solutions that I've ever worked with."
"The product has valuable features for security and network extension."
"The ease in which to install this product and make it work straight away without minimum changes in your physical network is simply astonishing."

Cons

"I would like to see it integrate with third-party systems."
"Nowadays, NSX supports the KVM and ESXi hypervisors only. It should also support Hyper-V and Citrix hypervisors."
"The support from VMware NSX could improve."
"The VMware technical support could be better. They're not always reachable and expertise is not widespread."
"To those who say this solution is complex, I would say it is but not for the key user."
"In the next release, they should enhance the visual interface. With NSX-T, it's difficult to communicate between the public cloud and the container."
"There were some issues with finance and other accounting."
"The NSX setup is complex. That's one area where they could improve."
"Lacks integration with other solutions."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"Licensing costs are yearly."
"VMware NSX is a cheaper product compared to its competitor, Cisco."
"Pricing and licensing could be improved as we are a government entity. Lower pricing could always help."
"The price is pretty high."
"There is a license required for this solution and there is also a support license available. The price of the solution could be better."
"All the institutions have to pay monthly for the services in the cloud. They have to pay $30,000 every month for this service every three years."
"The cost of the solution is a bit high."
"There is a license required for this solution, we pay annually."
"The solution is reasonable at the local level."
