Test Manager at a engineering company with 1,001-5,000 employees
Intuitive enough and easy to learn, but in terms of folder organization, it could be better
Inflectra SpiraTest is the new kid on the block compared to Jira and Azure. Still, when I started exploring the tool, I realized that it was no different from other tools I've used in the past, but it all boils down to adaptability because the features would always be more or less the same. I found Inflectra SpiraTest intuitive enough. It's also easy to learn, so this is what I like about it.

Test Team Lead at a computer software company with 501-1,000 employees
Flexible and intuitive with easy reporting, and good support that is instantly available through chat
It doesn't allow you to connect to multiple different bug tracking tools at the same time. This is not an issue if you only have one bug tracker but we can potentially use different tools for different projects. As an example, if you connect PractiTest to Jira for one project, that's the one you have to use for all projects. We had a requirement to connect with Jira for one project, and a different tool for another, project but it was unable to accommodate that unfortunately. I would therefore like to see it easier to integrate with bug tracking tools at project level which would give each project the opportunity to use a different bug tracker if required.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"The features of this product most valuable to me were the test case management and the visual status, by which it was displayed."
"Customer Service: The customer service is the very best I have ever experienced."
"Our organization has become more efficient in our everyday test case documentation and in the execution of both manual and automated testing, which in turn raises the quality of both our work and products."
"Before there was nothing, so implementing this was a big step towards a structured test process, so it's priceless."
"Once you have learned it (it has so much functionality), it's quite easy to do a lot of things."
"Most solutions that did what SpiraTest could do, cost significantly more, while solutions that were of comparable price or lower, didn’t have nearly the robustness offered by SpiraTest."
"For the price, this is a very simple solution, with limited functionality, that will definitely improve any department still using spreadsheets as their documentation."
"The reporting functionality helps vendors and technical resources identify bugs and issues that need to be addressed. The simple dashboard-style home page makes training end-user testers simple and straightforward. The actual testing UI is VERY straightforward and very intuitive for the end-users that test the system since very often we pull from business and operational users to help test new systems."
"Since we started using this product, our organization's testing functionality has really improved."
"Technical support of PractiTest is awesome. They are always ready to help in any time zone, which makes them stand out from others."
"Converting a couple of these test plans into PractiTest was amazing and made a world of difference."
"This is a good solution for a global transnational company."
"In addition, we found PractiTest very user-friendly and customizable."
"Helped organise the manual test cases so they were documented correctly, which was invaluable as it allowed for reviewing and improving of test scripts so they could be followed by a number of different people which helped with resourcing."
"PractiTest gives us the opportunity to control the testing process efficiently and saves us a lot of time that we had to spend while using other tools."
"The most valuable feature is the way the libraries are structured so that they were not folder driven."

Cons

"The folder organization in Inflectra SpiraTest could be better, though I cannot comment whether that is structure-related. Most of what I need would probably be in the tool, but as a test manager, I need to be able to create dashboards and reports easily."
"One of the main issues encountered was around scalability."
"Yes, I noticed in my previous job, as one generates many test reports, database access becomes very slow to the point of being unusable."
"The UI for managing test cases, test sets, test runs could be a little more integrated, currently, these feel disjointed at times and confusing. Also, the test steps page needs to display the test steps closer to the top of the UI so as to not have to scroll down to find."
"There is a learning curve with understanding how to program SpiraTest, but once mastered it's easy."
"However, when you need to apply a change to a workflow which is used in multiple projects, you need to modify the projects one by one."
"We have faced some performance issues. Inflectra may check the performance of SpiraTest."
"Frankly, I cannot find anything at the back of my mind that I can term valuable."
"It does not offer server installation, only software as a service."
"Yes, there are times when server is very slow in response."
"PractiTest practically requires a lot of sandboxing, demos with their team, and online tutorials."
"Needs to improve adding the ability to run tests multiple times and setting different parameters."
"It doesn't allow you to connect to multiple different bug tracking tools at the same time."
"There are some features that I would like added: an option to export a part of tests with steps."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"I Googled the pricing for Inflectra SpiraTest, and it's about $4,000 annually."
"The pricing was excellent. I would recommend the enterprise solution."
"Pricing is probably in the middle, it's not the cheapest but it's not the most expensive."
