A stable, scalable and cost-effective solution that helps with inbuilt scripts for easy modification
I think the software is quite good, but we have had problems with getting it to recognize certain areas and amend certain checks, where we needed so we would have to create backend scripts for those checks. Though, being open source, it has the support to create backend scripts, it would be better to have these scripts in-built.

Offers comprehensive monitoring and tool consolidation but integration complexity needs improvement
There is room for improvement in the speed of setting up the service and integrating PowerPacks. Although these prebuilt features are great, there is considerable complexity in bringing them together to create a unified dashboard. Even with many good integrations and deep visibility, the implementation takes time, especially when it doesn't involve these integrations. While some other companies have easier APIs, using this solution demands significant expertise. It's challenging for new customers to implement independently. The implementation speed of non-PowerPack or non-out-of-the-box integrations should be improved. Additionally, the AI automation feature is not yet very rich due to resource constraints supporting a wide platform.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"An affordable solution for small organizations to do basic network monitoring."
"I like the ability to amend and adjust things really easily, which is useful in a case where you could make it auto-discover and then set a template to say all of these applications or servers under this template have an automatic threshold set that you’d set up manually."
"This solution has a self-healing handler where if the service is down, it is automatically restarted."
"Macros and the ability to connect it to Google Maps are valuable features."
"The apply rules feature saves a lot of time."
"We have found the solution to be stable."
"The ability to customize scripts and build your own queries to request information from the infrastructure elements you want to monitor. This level of personalization and customization is highly appreciated."
"The best thing about the solution is how it highlights errors, the issues, and what needs my attention. The solution directs me to areas that I should look for first."
"Since it is a SaaS-based product, the setup is not very difficult."
"The power flow is great."
"The most valuable features of ScienceLogic are AI and machine learning."
"It has good monitoring capabilities across cloud environments, data centers, and hybrid environments."
"Science Logic provides distributed and all-in-one concept in monitoring, you can easily customize the features in this product."
"I recommend ScienceLogic to other users."

Cons

"One thing that Icinga lacks is the capability to create advanced and customized dashboards within the tool itself."
"The user interface should be improved."
"One of the areas that are frustrating is remote monitoring for more than one machine."
"It needs Trap SNMP. I saw the documentation for Zabbix, that it has its own built-in product which handles SNMP traps, and there's nothing similar in Icinga or Nagios. I think this feature is most important for me."
"We have found some problems with Nagios, and support isn't very responsive."
"The solution lacks many features important to higher-level IT management and network support."
"They should improve database issues in HA and Failover mode, and provide documentation for all users , even if they are not customers."
"Integrating observability and APM monitoring into the overall portfolio would be beneficial."
"One important area we feel could be improved is the UI. It takes a lot of clicks to do very simple tasks."
"Integrating observability and APM monitoring into the overall portfolio would be beneficial."
"From a performance perspective, it needs to improve a lot."
"They should add CLI command modes and scripts for high performance."
"Admins do not have direct access to the reporting."
"We want to understand: how does the back end work? What if some problem occurs? What we can do? They need to provide more information."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"Even though Icinga's financial cost is low, it is an expensive product regarding the resources required to maintain and operate it."
"This is an open-source solution with paid support."
"The solution is free to use."
"The product is inexpensive compared to other DBM products."
"It is cost-effective, and the return on investment can be very interesting because the price is low."

"The solution is cheap."
"My company has an enterprise-level contract with ScienceLogic, so it is available to my organization at a good price."
"Decide what you want to monitor and only monitor those items. Absorb other elements as you grow."
"I'm not the best person to discuss pricing, but what I do know is that it's a use-and-go structure. You use this much storage and pay this much for it. That's how it is. Every time, we continue to add a large amount of data to the environment."
"Plan for adding more to it. Once you see EM7 in action, you will want to keep adding systems to monitor."
"The pricing model for ScienceLogic could improve."
"The license of ScienceLogic is based on how many endpoints are used. The number of monitoring points you want to have."
"It comes with the OS built in, so no need to purchase an OS license or DB license."
"The solution is license-based. It's between $8 and $15, depending on what you need from the product."
