We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use.
Here are some excerpts of what they said:
Pros
"The feature for optimizing VMs is the most valuable because a number of the agencies have workloads or VMs that are not really being used. Turbonomic enables us to say, 'If you combine these, or if you decide to go with a reserve instance, you will save this much.'""Before implementing Turbonomic, we had difficulty reaching a consensus about VM placement and sizing. Everybody's opinion was wrong, including mine. The application developers, implementers, and infrastructure team could never decide the appropriate size of a virtual machine. I always made the machines small, and they always made them too big. We were both probably wrong.""I like the analytics that help us optimize compatibility. Whereas Azure Advisor tells us what we have to do, Turbonomic has automation which actually does those things. That means we don't have to be present to get them done and simplifies our IT engineers' jobs.""The tool provides the ability to look at the consumption utilization over a period of time and determine if we need to change that resource allocation based on the actual workload consumption, as opposed to how IT has configured it. Therefore, we have come to realize that a lot of our workloads are overprovisioned, and we are spending more money in the public cloud than we need to.""We can manage multiple environments using a single pane of glass, which is something that I really like.""The notifications saying, "This is a corrective action," even though some of them can be automated, are always welcome to see. They summarize your entire infrastructure and how you can better utilize it. That is the biggest feature.""We've saved hundreds of hours. Most of the time those hours would have to be after hours as well, which are more valuable to me as that's my personal time.""Using this product helps us to reduce performance risk because it shows us where resources are needed but not yet allocated."

"The ease of use is a valuable feature. For us, it's a consistent interface. It's very easy to train our employees on it, and it's a newer generation interface. It's homogeneous, and every product and subset tie together, giving a very similar look to everything.""The solution’s ease of use is mind-blowing.""The most valuable feature is less or no implementation time. It should be up and running at any point in time so I don't spend time in transformation.""The product is pretty intuitive and easy to learn.""I like being able to expand my workload with Nutanix Cloud Manager at the best cost.""The solution expands easily.""The most valuable feature of Nutanix Cloud Manager is the flexibility we're finding in expanding our technology and our support.""We haven't faced any problems because Nutanix provides an outside team. We haven't had any issues requiring L3 support, and the L1 and L2 engineers are on-site."

Cons
"Before IBM bought it, the support was fantastic. After IBM bought it, the support became very disappointing.""Additional interfaces would be helpful.""I do not like Turbonomic's new licensing model. The previous model was pretty straightforward, whereas the new model incorporates what most of the vendors are doing now with cores and utilization. Our pricing under the new model will go up quite a bit. Before, it was pretty straightforward, easy to understand, and reasonable.""If they would educate their customers to understand the latest updates, that would help customers... Also, there are a lot of features that are not available in Turbonomic. For example, PaaS component optimization and automation are still in the development phase.""The reporting needs to be improved. It's important for us to know and be able to look back on what happened and why certain decisions were made, and we want to use a custom report for this.""We don't use Turbonomic for FinOps and part of the reason is its cost reporting. The reporting could be much more robust and, if that were the case, I could pitch it for FinOps.""We're still evaluating the solution, so I don't know enough about what I don't know. They've done a lot over the years. I used Turbonomics six or seven years ago before IBM bought them. They've matured a lot since then.""They have a long road map when we ask for certain things that will make the product better. It takes time, but that's understandable because there are other things that are higher on the priority list."

More IBM Turbonomic Cons →

"Compatibility with multiple clouds and a single control would help us. We are also getting onto GCP, and there is limited compatibility with GCP in the areas we need. We are using GCP primarily for data analytics.""You can set up DHCP but it's a little bit clunky. I wish they would streamline and centralize the management of DHCP.""Initial setup can be complex and requires professional services.""The commercialization of their data fiber needs improvement to gain more traction with VMware.""In some ways, Nutanix Cloud Manager abstracts out certain items in a simplified manner, which makes it good for training. At other times, to get to the next technical level, we want to actually dive in, and Nutanix Cloud Manager sometimes restricts us from actually diving into the deeper technical pieces. There's no advance button that lets us do more advanced things without having to drop out to the CLI to do the command line piece.""The solution could be more user-friendly.""Nutanix has room for improvement around the partner tools and making them approachable and easier to learn.""There are some load-balancing features that are currently missing in the flow network security and could potentially be added in the future."

Pricing and Cost Advice
  • "The pricing is in line with the other solutions that we have. It's not a bargain software, nor is it overly expensive."
  • "I don't know the current prices, but I like how the licensing is based on the number of instances instead of sockets, clusters, or cores. We have some VMs that are so heavy I can only fit four on one server. It's not cost-effective if we have to pay more for those. When I move around a VM SQL box with 30 cores and a half-terabyte of RAM, I'm not paying for an entire socket and cores where people assume you have at least 10 or 20 VMs on that socket for that pricing."
  • "In the last year, Turbonomic has reduced our cloud costs by $94,000."
  • "I consider the pricing to be high."
  • "Everybody tells me the pricing is high. But the ROIs are great."

  • "I rate Cost Governance an eight out of 10 for pricing. There are different plans, so you can pay monthly or yearly. You can also sign a three-year contract. It's quite flexible. I can't give it a perfect 10, because customers always want a cheaper solution."
  • "Its acquisition and support cost is nominal. It is not too high, and it is not too low. It is within the budget, and there are no issues on that part."
  • "Compared to UCS and the NetApp storage, Nutanix is actually cheaper."
  • "The pricing has been reasonable."
  • "Its cost is reasonable. The features are very good."
  • "The pricing was quite competitive and a lot lower compared to other solutions. It wasn't cheap, but it was not as expensive."
  • "The pricing is less compared to Hyper-V."
  • "The company frequently changes its prices, and it is not clear how the subscription-based model works."
