We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use.
Here are some excerpts of what they said:
Pros
"In 90% of the cases, new devices are plug-and-play, so when a new version comes out then SevOne has support for it out of the box.""We've had great feedback from our customers about SevOne support. They're willing to set up a remote session upon request. You have to go through three tiers of support with most vendors, and they ask a lot of screening questions before they will do a remote session. You need to spend a lot of time before an engineer will host a remote session to look at your problematic system.""The network data collection has been very flexible for us. It's been thorough in areas that were lacking. They have a team that I've worked with to add other pieces to it. So if it's missing something out of the box, they work with me to add it. I was able to collect that data. It's not perfect, but it's pretty thorough.""Its ability to monitor practically any type of network device via SNMP is most valuable. This is the main functionality that we're using. If a network device exposes a metric, such as interface utilization, SevOne will monitor it for us.""The comprehensiveness of this solution's collection of network performance and flow data is one of the basics in the field for what it does. It meets all of our needs. So for all those areas, for the most straightforward collection capabilities, right up to NetFlow and even telemetry, it meets all those demands. Not only just basic or fundamental SNMP collection capability, but the product also supports what we need for the future with telemetry streaming. So it's very comprehensive.""SevOne provides support for all universal connectors. They internally work with other data sources to get features implemented. We have an SD-WAN implementation and use other app data to monitor performance. If you pull that data into one centralized location, that is very useful for management.""The automation feature is good because if your CMDB is OK and it is already in sync, then the automation part is good to go.""The most valuable feature is the NMS because that's the core of the system. Without the NMS, the other tools aren't that usable."

"There are a number of different user interfaces you can choose from.""We use it extensively for performance tuning testing, monitoring, and configuration.""It is the best monitoring tool for Oracle databases.""It can also help with capacity planning, sizing, and maximizing overall performance in a large scale environment.""Oracle Enterprise Manager triggers critical alerts.""The most valuable feature is high availability.""Oracle Enterprise Manager is a scalable solution.""The solution is easy to use and has good performance."

Cons
"Would benefit with the addition of AI modules for proactive data insights.""The GUI: both the dashboard/user view and the admin tool.""The customizations are very hard. The person doing it has to be very good at analytics and has to be very good in all languages""When I started using it, I tried adding one of the BroadWorks application servers into SevOne... it created thousands and thousands of objects from that one application server and we immediately ran out of license... It would help, when new objects are discovered, if there were a way to categorize those objects and to pick the part of the object you need...""In terms of having a complete view of our network performance, I would rate it a nine out of 10. The reason for not giving it a 10 is that there is no packet capture associated with SevOne, but we do have other tools in place to do that.""We need to be thinking about streaming telemetry protocols. They already have the port for enhanced visualization, which they already have through Data Insight.""High-frequency polling is data-intensive because you're pulling more. If SevOne could figure out a way to manage the impact of high-frequency polling on the system, that would be very popular.""There are a lot of pain points. My main problem is that we don't have a high availability system. There are 20 peers. We're going to lose the end-of-life appliances that are old. If we lose a peer and it doesn't come back, we lose all that data. The reason we don't have high availability is because it's double the charge."

More IBM SevOne Network Performance Management (NPM) Cons →

"I would like to see better pricing.""My opinion is that this solution needs to improve consolidation. That is what our business needs the most right now.""The user interface is not very interactive. It needs improvement.""I rate Oracle Enterprise Manager six out of 10 for affordability. It's expensive.""The solution’s stability could be improved.""We could use it but definitely with some effort we can streamline much better and sometimes some box here and there, like 13C you have to really wait, but there are great features. Just have to make sure it is a stable product.""RMAN tools need improvement.""The solution is not as simple as people say it is."

  • "Prices per license are not huge, but they exist."

SevOne provides device-level pricing. That gives us the flexibility to turn on, and expand on, the metrics that we're collecting around those devices, without taking a financial hit."
  • "The pricing has not evolved with the market, which is one of the reasons we are moving to a new product."

  • "The pricing is very high."
  • "We are satisfied with the pricing."
  • "There is only the standard licensing fee. There are no other costs."

    Reviews from Real Users

Oracle Enterprise Manager stands out among its competitors for a number of reasons. Several major ones are its central management and monitoring and its reporting capabilities

Robin C., head of Oracle Exadata Centre of Excellence at Tata Consultancy Services, writes, "The database performance monitoring features are very useful and allow us to quickly zero in on DB-related issues. Exadata storage server and Infiniband switches can be viewed from the GUI in OEM which cannot be done in other tools. The ability to deploy metric extensions makes this tool extensible for our custom monitoring also."

PeerSpot users note the effectiveness of these features. A database manager at a tech services company notes, “The solution's most valuable aspect is the fact that it is embedded with the Oracle database and Oracle's engineering system, its extra data, and analytics.  They have plug-ins that are very helpful. Due to the infrastructure's size, the introduction they offer is very, very useful. It helps with an overall understanding of the product. They have a very nice graphical user interface. The monitoring is good. We can capture the SQL tune from us. With Oracle Enterprise Managers, we can see the rich performance tuning.”
