Support improves setup and maintenance while pricing influences decision
If you have a similar use case and the same deal with IBM as our company, it is definitely a good option and choice. The company I work with has more than 50,000 people and more than 500 support staff. We are not locked into one database vendor. We typically work with multiple database vendors simultaneously, selecting the top choice based on the deals we make and other considerations. We do not use IBM Db2 Database related to AI at this moment because our AI project PLC is still very small scale. We may consider it in the future if we have enough scale. Overall rating for IBM Db2 Database is 8.5 out of 10.

Has offered a cost-effective option despite frequent technical issues and limited market demand
We find some bugs in IBM Informix. Maybe we are using it more aggressively than others. Every month or every second month, we find some bugs in it, which is not ideal. It should be rare, not this frequent. The good thing is they cover those bugs in the next release within weeks or days on demand. IBM Informix should become hybrid and should include AI features similar to other DBMS systems such as Snowflake, Redshift, and DataBricks. This would help its value rise with the market.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"The self-management and optimization features are probably the best on the market"
"The scalability and availability of this solution are the most valuable features."
"The initial setup was easy."
"Db2's best features are that it's self-maintaining and self-monitoring, which means I have to view and monitor the database far less often."
"I can easily export that to further work on it in Snowflake."
"This solution is scalable, we have an infrastructure that is based on virtual machines so we can add more to grow as we need, and I am very happy about that."
"We had a crash of the backup system and the IBM DB2 was always up and consistent. It's robust, and for us, it was always up and running."
"For our clients who have a large scale enterprise, we suggest DB2 and mid-scale enterprise customers we suggest SQL Server or others."
"OLTP processing capacity and the availability of information with high availability implementation have been significantly improved."
"The solution's stability, performance, enhanced functionality, and replication are all great features."
"Every version is faster than the previous."
"Not looking at Informix would really mean a shot in your own leg before walking a long distance."
"It supports multiple applications and business intelligence tools."
"The initial setup is pretty easy."
"It is very easy to install IBM Informix, very easy to scale, and support is quite better."
"This solution has made financial reporting possible by allowing financial people the opportunity to set Informix to "Auto Pilot" so that they can attend other duties."

Cons

"IBM Db2 Database could improve the user-defined functions. There are some user-defined functions that are missing, such as the spring functions. I used to have Teradata for my projects and I was used to working in the environment. They had a good set of user-defined functions."
"Its process of building up queries could be more accessible."
"Microsoft SQL Server is comparatively very simple to use. I wish IBM would move towards making Db2 easy to use for both basic and advanced users."
"Also, the website could be more intuitive. I didn't find it easy to find documentation on the website."
"The solution no longer supports POWER8."
"Automatic upgrade process (e.g., from v9.7 to v10.5) often fails."
"The backup solution lacks flexibility."
"The vendor should offer a free version"
"The solution really doesn't add new features very often. Other solutions are much more actively pushing out upgrades and improvements."
"This solution is in need of more current tools."
"The solution doesn't include functionality like data anonymization."
"I really would love to have a QT plugin."
"I experienced poor input/output (IO) performance."
"I really would love to have a QT plugin."
"This product could be made easier to use for beginners."
"The pricing is a bit expensive."

"Clients are required to purchase a license."
"Compared to Oracle, it is so much cheaper."
"It's very expensive for West African countries like ours."
