Provides efficient data modules, but it could be more user-friendly
We use IBM Cognos Dashboard for data manufacturing, reporting, costing, quality check, etc The product helps us update the KPI automatically. We can access reports and analyze if a particular solution fits the requirements. The product's most valuable is the concept of data modules. IBM Cognos…

Ease of developing dashboards and receiving strong technical support have enabled efficient data visualization
Introducing custom features, such as NLP-based reports, is not very good in Tableau. My MD has been asking us for a way to write in natural language to request reports that the system should generate, but that isn't very effective with Tableau. As a developer, I can develop an on-demand report in Python quite easily, but exposing a REST API on the Tableau platform is not a very easy task. AI enablement is an area for improvement for Tableau, and that is something they might have to work upon. I have heard that ThoughtSpot is quite better in this regard, but the cost of ThoughtSpot is much higher. ThoughtSpot has lots of natural language-based report generation features that Tableau lacks.

Pros

"It is a pretty stable solution."
"The main feature that is useful is the on-demand report generation through the dashboard."
"The tool's valuable features are that it is easy to use and stable."
"The product helps us update the KPI automatically."
"The main feature that is useful is the on-demand report generation through the dashboard."
"The solution is being delivered to our customer, who appreciates the insights generated from the reports."
"It is helpful that the solution provides access to one's own data, allowing a person to get insights out of the data provided by his tool, based upon the KPIs that the person wishes to look at."
"It's very user-friendly; it's not like Power BI, Tableau is very user-friendly, anybody can use Tableau, it's very easy to adopt things, I can visualize the stats, it's one of the fastest-growing data visualization and data analytics tools, and you can simplify and convert raw data into a very understandable format."
"ROI for Tableau when compared to other BI tools we have is excellent."
"Desktop installation is easy and straightforward."
"Tableau has provided the organisation a means to allow business people to explore their data at their pace."
"The data visualization piece is most valuable. We do ad-hoc analysis or one-time shot things, but there are things that we have to track every single day. When our management and our customers want to see how things are changing, the dashboarding provides that information. Tableau is key in providing that data on a refresh basis. We use a data blending tool that pumps the data into Tableau, and we just schedule it to run every single day. So, the automation of the data and being able to present it to people who are interested are the most valuable features."
"It's very easy to use and users don't need any IT support to access it as the information is right there."

Cons

"The price point is one of the major areas to be improved."

"Sometimes it crashes because of the huge database."
"There is no way to schedule these reports for business users who would like to measure users activity."
"There should be more GIS features, such as location analysis, which is quite limited. There are very few location-based functionalities."
"With performance tuning, it generates a pretty complex query when it is not required."
"More integration with Python or something related to machine learning would be a good improvement."
"I take a long time to process the hundreds of thousands or millions of records that must be processed every day."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"Licensing is based on individual usage, and it is more expensive than other providers."
"The product is expensive for small businesses compared to other vendors."
"The product's price is relatively inexpensive and manageable for enterprise-level companies."
"Tableau's prices are relatively high for our market. I am from Serbia, so many companies in this market don't have the ability to pay for expensive software. My clients are quite satisfied with a lot of Tableau's qualities except for the prices."
"The value for money is definitely there."
"It is a bit overpriced."
"The price of this solution could definitely be lower. It's quite expensive."
"Its licensing cost should be improved."
