Near-zero downtime has protected critical workloads and now simplifies hybrid cloud recovery
The best features of HPE Zerto Software are mainly very sophisticated and relevant to the current market. The data protection CDP part has real-time replication, unlike other solutions that have snapshot backups. We can set it up hourly, making it ideal for use with workloads. Another attraction is the near-zero RTO, with automated failover within minutes and one-click failover and failback. Currently, we are using a hybrid cloud solution, and HPE Zerto Software supports multi-cloud environments, making it easy to migrate between on-premises and cloud. Regarding the impact of HPE Zerto Software on our RTOs, we have near-zero RTO, meaning the system must be back online within thirty minutes if we measure the time. It is very quick to recover services. With HPE Zerto Software's near-synchronous replication, we have some CDP protection, so we typically write interceptions along with some asynchronous replication. There is almost real-time replication available.

An affordable product that offers a reasonably good technical support
I rate the product's initial setup phase an eight on a scale of one to ten, where one is a difficult setup phase, and ten is an easy setup phase. The product's installation phase took me around two weeks. On average, it usually takes about a week or two to deploy when everything is in place. The solution is deployed on a hybrid cloud from Azure.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"The dashboard was easy and the UI was simple."
"We have had many instances where VMs were corrupted by an application owner, where they were installing something and did not create a snapshot in VMware for it, and instead of tapping into our backups, with just two clicks, we were able to restore the VM back to its original state, which helps a lot in the day-to-day running of our business."
"The Zerto university for training staff is very useful."
"The dashboarding shows recovery point objectives and recovery time objectives, indicating seconds or minutes remaining, which is useful."
"Zerto made our migration from different data centers very easy and very smooth."
"Our RTO is quick, and we can recover five to ten terabytes of data within minutes of a failover."
"I like that Zerto is easy to move and that there is no effect on the user. That is, the user doesn't even know it. We're in the healthcare industry and work for a hospital. We can set up a server in no time whatsoever. It's easy for us to schedule the time because it takes only about one minute."
"We now have the ability to replicate critical data to a secure, off-site location that can be brought back in seconds if needed."
"Our primary use case for the solution is to back up our devices and equipment for employees and some equipment in airport software."
"We find the ease of use valuable."
"We use this solution as an integrated backup solution and it is integrated from the backup provider to the Nutanix solution."
"We use this solution as an integrated backup solution and it is integrated from the backup provider to the Nutanix solution."
"Nutanix Mine Integrated Backup is useful for those who run an infrastructure where there might arise a need to do some transition or want to opt for digital transformation."
"Nutanix, in my opinion, will eventually take over."
"Stability-wise, I rate the solution a nine out of ten...Scalability-wise, I rate the solution a nine out of ten...I rate the technical support a nine out of ten."
"I like the autofill-over feature and the simplicity of the solution."

Cons

"It has a file restore feature, which we have tried to use. We have had some issues with that, because the drives are compressed in our main file system."
"When building out a VPG and doing the machine types within Azure, they were not coming across correctly. It would say it had a CPU and memory of a specific type, but it was not accurate... It was a bug and they were working on it."
"Zerto can improve by offering bare metal recovery for our physical infrastructure."
"Their support team didn’t have all the answers, and some of the cases took far too long to address, especially on critical systems that needed to be operational for our DR events."
"You can create a VPG and put anywhere from one to 17 servers in that group. We build them one by one."
"The email alerts can be excessive, so better control over frequency or resolution may be a worthwhile improvement."
"You can create a VPG and put anywhere from one to 17 servers in that group. We build them one by one. If something changes in VMware, it would be nice to be able to go in and change that VPG, having it update without messing up. When you change them now, it only applies to the copies from the points when you changed it. I wish it would purge that older data from the past. Right now, we have to build a new VPG, which is not a big deal as it is just a few screens."
"Zerto could be considered as a backup product but this is not true. So if we could consolidate and use Zerto for disaster recovery as well as everyday backup and restore for situations where we need to recover something, that would be helpful. Anyway, we think that Zerto will win with no competition in the Disaster Recovery process, so we stay focused on this. Now we are testing version 10 which include real-time ransomware detection, a new Cyber Resilience Vault and enhanced cloud capabilities and security: we expect more from these features for superior hybrid cloud security."
"This solution could be improved with regards to the hosts that integrate with the platform itself. Each of the hosts integrated with the storage and networking only provide one instance of a backup."
"The price of the product is an area of concern where improvements are required."
"Nutanix is not secure enough, and it needs to be more resilient."
"The solution could be cheaper and they should include more education or marketing materials for users to understand how to use the solution."
"This solution could be improved with regards to the hosts that integrate with the platform itself. Each of the hosts integrated with the storage and networking only provide one instance of a backup."
"The price of the product is an area of concern where improvements are required."
"The pricing could be improved. It's an expensive solution."
"I would like to see the multi-cloud improve."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"It is economical as compared to other brands."
"Pricing is adequate at the standard of the product, but there could be "always" some improvement. We would like to see a consumption model that would charge in a DR scenario, where you're failing over and consuming those resources, instead of a per-protected-node model."
"Nothing is cheap, but Zerto represents decent value."
"I would like to see different service levels. They're good, but it still takes a lot of our budget in ops."
"License-wise, we budgeted $1,000 per VM. The minimum spend on it, in the beginning, can sometimes be a little bit of a headache for people, and they might have to budget creatively to get there, but once you're there, the renewals are worth it."
"It is cost-effective."
"If it were easier to license, and to scale it out a little bit more economically, that'd be a godsend. At the end of the day, my druthers would be to have all 200 of our servers protected by this platform. But for a company our size, that stretches our IT budget and it just doesn't make economic sense."
"Its price can be better, but it is not bad. Most small-scale organizations can afford it, but they can come up with more customer-friendly packages."
"On a scale of one to ten, where one is affordable or low, and ten is expensive or high, I rate the price as two."
"While Nutanix Mine is extremely expensive for small businesses, it is a very cost-effective product for enterprise businesses."
"I rate the pricing a five out of ten because the price is average."
"Nutanix Mine Integrated Backup is fairly priced."
