A versatile and scalable data warehousing with SQL-like querying capabilities on large datasets stored in Hadoop, offering ease of use, flexibility and compatibility with various data formats
If the use case involves creating a data warehousing solution with complex functionality, data analytics, and extensive querying requirements, especially if there's a need for a data lake, then opting for Hadoop and Spark is advisable. In this scenario, Hadoop with technologies like Hive and Spark can provide the necessary capabilities. On the other hand, if the application's primary focus is on handling large volumes of data without the requirement for complex features, data warehousing, or advanced querying, and if dashboarding visibility is not a priority, then MongoDB could be a suitable choice. Overall, I would rate it nine out of ten.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"It excels in handling diverse data formats and is particularly beneficial for constructing a data lake for companies with mixed data types, such as videos and structured data."
"It is a good solution for us when it comes to metadata implementation. It's beneficial to have metadata stored in Hive."
"I enjoy working with (and can recommend) Jira for a number of reasons. The best features are that it is friendly and provides good visibility. It's to the point and very effective."
"Most of my work is keeping track of what's been going on and identifying what is blocking future work. What I like about this solution is you can create a consolidated customized dashboard out of your files to identify what's been going on and identify who has how much data assigned to them."
"The most valuable feature of Jira is the integration with all the different Atlassian tools. They all integrate very easily."
"JIRA's technical support is absolutely fantabulous. I had used it in the past when I was working at my previous organization. And when we wanted to link it with a framework, they helped us out with the API we were looking for."
"The level of stability is quite good."
"Some of the features that are most important to me of JIRA Agile are the sprint planning, being able to write user stories and being able to use task management."
"The features that we find most valuable are the Workflow, Scrum workflow, and Dashboards."
"Jira is a comprehensive tool for managing projects. It helps in task segregation and assignment, making it time-efficient for employees."

Cons

"For smaller datasets, it may not be as suitable, and its performance might not be optimal."
"In future releases, I would also like to see AI implementation."
"There are some features and reports we need that are not there. For example, if I have to find out the capacity of the current sprint by user and compare it with the previous sprint, that visibility isn't there."
"While it's very powerful, it's very complex sometimes."
"There could be an improvement in loading files and images for more than 50 MB. It would be good if it allowed more than 100 MB."
"The dashboard reports can be improved. Its dashboard reports are good, but you cannot have complex reports. They are currently very basic. For instance, we can only choose two columns for a dashboard, so it is not friendly enough."
"Having more seamless integration with Confluence would really help us track our product management activity and other product details in one place."
"I wish the whole workflow process was easier to set up. You put the requirements in and then you send it to the developer. They get a notification. Then they go into Jira."
"This solution could be improved by including a different model for the overall planning perspective. There's a Jira portfolio that we aren't using. The only challenge we're facing is that we cannot see the overall planning."
"Because I am a developer, I would like integration with Git Source Code Management so that for tickets, we can reference the code where the change has happened and where the issue is. This feature might be there, and I probably haven't discovered it."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"It is an open-source solution."
"I don't deal with licensing in my current consultant position."
"I rate the tool's pricing a five out of ten. It's paid yearly."
"Jira and its solution off the shelf are cheap. It is cheap for startups."
"There is a monthly license required for this solution and it is expensive."
"Almost everybody uses JIRA nowadays because it is the most cost-effective solution."
"We are on an annual license and could be less expensive."
"One of my customers told me that they were receiving better pricing for a similar tool from Microsoft."
"It's not very cheap. It's also not very costly. I'd rate it a five out of ten in terms of pricing."
