Enables customers to manage security effortlessly with intuitive features and easy integration
In terms of improvements for Fortinet FortiGate, they could offer evaluation licenses, as compared to Meraki, which provides a 90-day evaluation. In Fortinet FortiGate, they do not provide standard evaluation licenses; instead, we need to request them from the OEM through the account manager for POCs. If we want to conduct a demo, we need to work with real hardware. In comparison to Cisco, we have DCloud, which helps with providing demos to customers, but in Meraki, I need to reach out to them, book a lab, and they need to provide all the hardware. I need remote access and L3 engineers to program it; only then can I offer a real-time demo to the customer.

Is stable and has a user-friendly dashboard and a good interface
We installed Hillstone T-Series after a ransomware attack. The dashboard and user interface are very good We cannot secure a specific IP class with this firewall. Another loophole with Hillstone T-Series is that when we connect through WiFi and turn our hot spot on, all who connect through the…

Robust security measures and cost-effectiveness meet diverse industry needs
The biggest benefit of Juniper SRX Series Firewall overall is that it is rugged and cost-effective, offering basic firewall features and additional licensed features as needed. The main challenge I see as a distributor is Juniper's rating in the Gartner report, where Juniper is not a leader in enterprise security, which often influences customer conversations. Most customers want to check the Gartner report before they engage, making it challenging to sell Juniper security. With my extensive experience with the Juniper SRX Series Firewall, the robustness of the SD-Cloud or Security Director interface and overall functionality needs to be improved to compete with leading firewall solutions.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"It's a user-friendly and stable firewall."
"It has improved our organization with control data."
"Fortigate 300c is a very robust product, unlike Cisco ASA Firewall, you have already the web gui interface inside the device."
"It has been very stable and reliable."
"There are many features packed and significant flexibility from Fortinet FortiGate in being able to do numerous things."
"Overall, it's a great solution; the detection is great, the possibility to detect any anomaly under our match work is great, and we have a quick response."
"The integration of SD-WAN capabilities with Fortinet FortiGate has positively impacted application performance."
"It's super reliable. I don't think I've ever had a reliability issue with it."
"It has been stable so far."
"We found some limitations with Fortinet FortiGate, and we are satisfied with Hillstone T-Series right now."
"The only firewall able to monitor traffic from a CCTV network. Can detect unauthorized devices plugged into the network, which standard firewalls can't do."
"Hillstone supports IOT setup and detecting intrusions from IOT or CCTV connectivity, and with this solution, we can also detect unauthorized devices plugged into the CCTV network and sound the alarm to the administrator."
"We installed Hillstone T-Series after a ransomware attack. The dashboard and user interface are very good."
"It's easily scalable."
"I've found the security features, such as IDS and the VPN most valuable."
"In terms of valuable features, Juniper firewall filtering is good."
"It has a very usable CLI."
"The user interface is good."
"Overall, we've been happy with the solution and I would rate it a nine out of ten."
"The most valuable feature for me overall is that Juniper is simplified and can still do everything that is necessary to be effective."
"CLI: Junos CLI is very easy to use, and it is also very easy to find back items in the configuration and to change them."

Cons

"There are too many updates coming for VPN, and the VPN keeps disconnecting frequently, which I find problematic. It does what it's supposed to do, but I practically face reconnection issues with the VPN."
"To improve Fortinet FortiGate, I think they need to improve the software and make updates more quickly, rather than taking a long time to update the software or firmware."
"The solution's GUI is not very appealing."
"Fortinet should improve its software, as we are seeing lots of firmware versions generated for each vulnerability issue. It becomes difficult for us to keep updating the firmware frequently due to bugs."
"FortiGate Next Generation Firewall could be made a little less expensive."
"I would like Fortinet to add more automation to FortiGate."
"Stability and technical support are the two major issues I have found with Fortinet."
"The support package being an additional extra, even with an enterprise package purchase, is pathetic. Though I haven't had direct experience with support, the fact that it doesn't come by default, which is very misleading compared to other brands, warrants a rating of two out of ten."
"Licensing is not cheap, but there are customers who will buy because they understand that this has a cost involved and they will cater their budget for that."
"Another loophole with Hillstone T-Series is that when we connect through WiFi and turn our hot spot on, all who connect through the hotspot get all the functions, and the security does not work."
"They have a very good technical support team, but I think there are some communication issues due to language differences."
"Licensing is not cheap."
"There were limited security zones with each model."
"It doesn't support SSL encryption."
"Probably Juniper could come up with their own dedicated endpoint security."
"The workplace management console needs improvement. It should be a little bit more developed. Also, the interface needs a bit more improvement."
"It could improve areas which need high performance."
"When I was going to upgrade the OS, the solution didn't accept certain USB devices."
"More recently we started using the GUI interface and that looks pretty shameful and needs improvement."
"Juniper SRX lacks scalability. Juniper uses a switch car with different switches, and we have some difficulties managing this kind of equipment and implementing some features, like Mac lock and Mac limiting solutions."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"Fortinet FortiGate's price can be reduced."
"The beauty is the price performance ratio is great with FortiGate. It provides all the features we needed and the price is comparable with others' firewalls. The price is quite competitive with the firewalls with similar features."
"FortiGate Next-Generation Firewall is cheaper than Cisco or CheckPoint."
"By default, they give SD-WAN along with the firewall. They don't have separate licensing for the SD-WAN functionality. However, they have security licenses that are sold separately on a subscription basis. Customers can consume these security features to protect their users from internet traffic."
"Work through partners for the best pricing."
"It has been two years. I don't remember the actual price, but it was affordable. We buy the boxes and then use the license for three years."
"The price of FortiGate support is too expensive."
"Its pricing is good. The advantages of Fortinet FortiGate over its competitors include good pricing and meeting our requirements at a lower cost."
"On a scale from one to ten, with one being low and ten being high price, I would rate the price of Hillstone T-Series at three. There are no additional costs other than renewal costs."
"We got a much cheaper price than that provided by Fortinet right now."
"It is best suited to an enterprise-level, as the mid-range companies may find that the cost is not affordable."
"The pricing is perhaps half, probably forty percent, of Cisco."
"It is not that expensive."
"Pricing is good. Most of the costs are in the UTM (IDS/IPS, virus scanning, etc) subscription."
"Small enterprises or telco have variant licenses, and this licensing should be improved."
"We were able to lower our overall operating costs over a three year period by 25%, mostly recovered from maintenance/support costs."
"When we are in the deployment phase, we contact Juniper and they provide a budget-free code for our budgetary work."
"The price could improve, it is a bit expensive."
