We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use.
Here are some excerpts of what they said:
Pros
"The most valuable feature is we can develop what we want. If we have an old or new requirement, they are able to support us to develop it all within one month.""I am impressed with the tool's ease of deployment.""The product has a centralized console for everything.""The classifications in place are very helpful in making policies for ensuring sensitive data can be contained.""This solution helps classify what is confidential and what is not, allowing products to be installed at home if they do not contain confidential information.""The main thing that I like about GTB is that it has a single agent for DLP and data classification. You can use the same agent. In terms of licensing too, it has a single license. When it comes to data classification, it supports open-source document platforms such as ChainSoft and OpenOffice.""They have a fingerprint feature that is very awesome. OCR is very awesome to have too."

"The most valuable feature of Symantec Data Loss Prevention is the ease of modification.""The solution offers great reporting.""The solution is simple to use with good administrative controls and a console that is easy to understand.""The incident response options and reporting features are particularly strong, with the inclusion of Incident Classification Assessment (ICA) for integrated reporting.""Technical support is very professional and responsive.""All of the features are really important, including DLP for the OCR and endpoint. It will be all of the combined features that will give you the strength to control the data. Every feature has its own uniqueness, different control and will help you to protect the data.""We are able to contain our confidential data in our environment.""The exfiltration capabilities are great. You can put all of these rules in the product to detect the patterns and text."

Cons
"The solution could improve by providing additional availability requirements.""To stay competitive, they should expand to smartphones.""The product needs to improve its support so that users can just log in and create tickets as opposed to sending emails. Sending emails is difficult to track. It also needs to work on its analytics platform.""The solution’s performance must be improved.""The performance could be better.""They have a roadmap for the Linux platform and Mac as well, and in the next quarter, they might have patch management also for Windows. However, they don't have that much for Linux and Mac. So, we need those things in Linux and Mac as well.""It would be great if they have information rights management (IRM) on the same agent."

More GTB Technologies Inspector Cons →

"Symantec could improve by being more creative and simplifying the functions. Additionally, the data protection should be bundled with data classification and labeling instead of them being separate.""In a majority of cases, most of the companies are using DLP for endpoint sessions, where you have a user that might be communicating information outside of the company. However, they forget there are actual interfaces that can directly communicate with either the database or other files within the data center that uses end-to-end encryption. In those cases, you might need things like your DLP to be able to monitor and block some of that. The solution needs to catch information communicated through the data center on the server-side.""The console is not the best one. There is room for improvement in the management console.""The solution could offer improved more informative documentation.""The upgrade process is convoluted. The server and database software must run in line with third-party providers like the Oracle database. If an Oracle database reaches the end of its life, then servers must be decommissioned, and you need to bring new servers online. When the maintenance packages are deployed to the management server, they don't get pushed to the detection servers. Each detection server must be manually installed rather than automatically made from a single server. If it's a large enterprise, you need to manually install it or use a GPO or some other technology, which I never use.""The solution is not user-friendly.""Since being acquired by Broadcom, the support has really degraded for small and medium enterprises.""There are some features that are not available which are required by every data loss prevention solution."

Keeping sensitive corporate information safe and compliant has never been easy. But today, you’re faced with a totally new set of data protection challenges. Sensitive information is leaving the safety of your corporate network as more employees share files over consumer cloud storage services and access those files on their own mobile devices. The number of targeted cyber attacks continues to grow, as cybercriminals develop effective new methods for defeating traditional security measures and stealing corporate information. And as all of these factors converge, it becomes increasingly difficult to manage corporate information and protect it against loss and theft.

Symantec Data Loss Prevention (DLP) provides a comprehensive approach to information protection that embraces today’s cloud- and mobile-centered realities. With DLP, you can:

    • Discover where data is stored across all of your cloud, mobile, network, endpoint, and storage systems

    • Monitor how data is being used, whether your employees are on or off the network

    • Protect data from being leaked or stolen—no matter where it’s stored or how it’s used
