It's easy to setup and the plugins are easy to write. When we need to, the threshold is easy to change It would be nice to have a centralized client-settings management. At the moment, the client settings have to be changed individually. I've used it since 2011. The deployment of the new server…

Helps us detect cyber threats quickly and integrate multiple feeds effectively
Overall, the product is good, but when it comes to some infrastructure issues, we have to dig into more logs. There is no straightforward indication of an issue. Health check kind of dashboards are not available. More AI would help us, and more optimization, since security products run more queries. The AI module could suggest solutions, optimizing queries or workload balancing. If the product itself advises on running queries during peak times, it would be similar to what ChatGPT currently offers. We see quite a few issues on stability. Even last week, we faced something, and identifying bottlenecks is not easy. We need more SMEs, and there is no mechanism to tell us about indexer or search head issues. Self-monitoring dashboards could be beneficial. The technical support still requires more improvement. Often, primary support takes a lot of time and forwards most solutions to the engineering side. The primary support team has very limited knowledge to provide.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"It's easy to setup and the plugins are easy to write."
"Splunk has a single purpose in life: ingest machine data and help analyze and visualize that data."
"Splunk ITSI (IT Service Intelligence) has very good capability of storing, analyzing, and searching compared to other tools."
"The search and query feature is very fast but due to the log size limit (in trial version), we did not get the full benefit."
"From using Splunk Enterprise Security, I have already seen benefits such as tracking alert fatigue in my team, especially with the SOC Operations dashboard and the Executive Dashboard."
"The feature that I have found most valuable with Splunk is the ability to sift through a bunch of data very quickly."
"One of the most valuable features is threat hunting. We can do threat hunting and identify if there is any malicious activity happening within our environment, which is a key feature for us."
"The solution allows easy gathering and ingestion of the data."
"We use Splunk Cloud as a SIEM solution and to monitor traffic and the network for detection purposes."

Cons

"Deploying an agent leaves much to be desired."
"A few more analysis aids might help."
"Splunk Enterprise Security has not helped reduce our alert volume."
"Spam has different plugins but by default, the logs are not organized, it shows that there are roll-ups that are out of the box. I saw many plugins that can help improve or extend Splunk's functionality but I haven't tried any of them."
"Some additional features that should be included in the next release of Splunk Enterprise Security are an integrated Attack Range, not as a separate solution, providing a way to test the rules in the production environment."
"If possible, we would like to have not only a log monitoring system but a network monitoring feature in this solution as well."
"One complaint is that it is very expensive for organizations."
"The first tier support is as bad as it is most places and getting worse all the time."
"The user interface feels clunky to navigate and interact with in Splunk Enterprise Security compared to other case management solutions where it feels easier to use at a high level."

Pricing and Cost Advice

Information not available
"While Splunk offers generous developer licenses and obtaining annual licenses is straightforward, the cost is a major consideration."
"Splunk Enterprise Security's pricing is pretty competitive."
"This solution is costly. Splunk is obviously a great product, but you should only choose this product if you need all the features provided. Otherwise, if you don't need all the features to meet your requirements, there are probably other products that will be more cost-effective. It's cost versus the functionality requirement."
"Personnel costs are saved by not having to involve the domain developers from multiple teams when tracing a problem that spans multiple platforms."
"Most people share the same thought that the ingestion rates can get pretty pricey. There is a lot of work we do to curate the data that we send to Splunk so that it is not too noisy or too expensive."
"The pricing modules could be improved."
"Price-wise, if you compare QRadar to Splunk for SIEM functionality then they are in the same range but when you integrate SOAR with these solutions, Splunk takes the lead and is more competitive."
"The tool's licensing is good and we haven't received any complaints from the team handling it."
