Aggregates logs in one place and helps to review data points
We tried Graylog Security, starting with their inexpensive open-source version. We tested it out and continued using it for a while. As for the main differences between Graylog Security and other vendors, some users might prefer cloud-based platforms over on-premises solutions. It isn't inherently cloud-native, but that might not matter much for some.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"The tool aggregates logs. We can see the logs in one place."
"We use the solution to collect logs."
"We are very happy, the training was excellent, and the interaction with AlienVault is first rate - a real leader in customer service, and the OTX pulse feature is very useful."
"The ROI is very good if you evaluate all the services which AlienVault can help you with: detection of Malware, bad activities, suspicious behavior, etc."
"The most valuable aspect of AlienVault is the visibility into the network."
"The new cloud-based panel is excellent both for client review as well as for our SOC to review and respond to threats. It is much easier to configure and use than the previous solution from AlienVault."
"SIEM capabilities, vulnerability scanning, asset discovery/management features."
"Customer support is excellent."
"The dashboards are very descriptive and contain just the right amount of information. The activity alarms and events contain a plethora of data that is very descriptive and useful."
"The solution is stable."

Cons

"Graylog Security needs to incorporate security scorecards."
"The reporting tools are a bit lacking for building reports to give directly to customers, but support has been helpful in giving our requests for new features to the development team and following up with us."
"We would love to be able to create custom rules based on a series of events, to create rule-sets where, for example, failed logins to the VPN Server are logged and then when a successful attempt follows soon after, it triggers an alarm for a Brute Force."
"I think plugin management should be self-service on AlienVault USM. The other product is self-service but on the USM side. You have to submit a ticket then AT&T creates and updates the plugins."
"AlienVault must improve their correlation feature. Some of the events do not match with the correlation rules and some of the correlation events are false-positive."
"Maybe logs are the problem, as the database query is too slow. If you want to search something, you need time to find it."
"Their threat intelligence platform needs to be broadened."
"The UI and overall processes need a little bit more love. This shows in the error banners that come up when you select certain things. There isn't a day that goes by that the UI doesn't error out and I can't view events for an alarm."
"As this software is in the cloud, you do not have control on updates and general changes which are happening."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"I rate the tool's pricing a one out of ten."
"We ran a few PoCs. The price and feature set were the best with AlienVault."
"The ROI is quite good."
"I don't think the product's pricing is a good value because they try to raise the price 50 percent every year... AlienVault needs to understand that not all customers are huge enterprises... Their sales team is way too aggressive. The price they advertise is not always the price you get."
"They charge a license based on the storage. ATT AlienVault USM is a less expensive solution than IBM QRadar."
"Use an MSSP instead. It is much cheaper."
"AT&T AlienVault USM is an expensive solution and we pay for the license and the support separately. We paid for the license and support for three years."
"The licensing fees are dependent on usage."
"AlienVault is flexible on their pricing for unlimited licenses."
