Quotes From Members
We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use.
Here are some excerpts of what they said:
Pros
"It gives us a central place to schedule tasks and run them distributed.""The ability to connect to websites and pull data is the solution's most valuable feature.""The best feature of Automate is its ease of use, which is a major selling point.""Compared to other vendors, it's the scheduling tool because a lot of vendors want to charge you extra for their enterprise-level license to have a scheduling tool built in to give you the ability to set up regular schedules to run and do certain data checks.""It's very easy to use. That's a big selling point for it. It has got a drag-and-drop interface, so you can quickly deploy bots.""I like the interface; it makes managing automation easy. We can set different schedules and templates for each task.""We have tried other RPA solutions like UiPath or Automation Anywhere. They are fantastic products but complex, and it's hard to understand everything. It would be best if you had a skilled developer or several. Automate is easy to implement, administer, and use. It's appropriate for us because our cases are simple and easy to automate. We don't need complicated tools with many features; We prefer to get a significant ROI quickly.""Fortra's Automate performs the job effectively and has the capability to alert us of any issues."

"AI functionality enabled our clients to automate more processes overall. It helped with end-to-end automation in the way that if you automate more processes, you save more time, and save more money for the company.""The solution provides ease of access for users with limited knowledge.""One of the features that I like is that the bot will continue to work on other tasks, even if one task is blocked because it is waiting for user input.""It offers me various benefits such as AI capabilities and works very well for me on all types of processes. It makes our tasks easy and provides accurate results.""They have robust libraries we can use to automate a wide range of tasks, and UiPath integrates with multiple technologies. It's an excellent platform with many valuable features we find useful in our business.""The user interface is the most valuable feature of the studio version.""There is a recording feature that copies each step of a task. You can automate every process via this recording. It's a cool feature that helps you define the variables.""We like how UiPath is designed for low-code or no-code users. It's less complicated, enabling everyone to use it with only a basic knowledge of automation or data. Generally, I also like UiPath's ability to mine processes and analyze user interactions to generate analytics."

Cons
"The intelligent automation feature could be improved. It's interesting because it's simple, but the automation quality isn't always good. It's easy to use, but sometimes you need to make a slight improvement to the automation, and that's not so easy.""Error messages should be better. For error status, there should be better documentation because a lot of times, error messages that you get are quite vague. For example, you get a message saying that the workflow has run into an unknown status, which is vague. It just tells you that it failed, but you don't know how or why it failed. It makes debugging difficult.""The workflow for variables could be better. The input and output of task-level variables could be made a little clearer in terms of passing those around from one task to another upon success, etc. Things like that could be a little easier potentially.""The documentation for errors needs improvement as many of the error messages we receive are very vague.""There is room for improvement regarding cloud functionality; there are a few missing features, and the logging could be better, especially air logging. We can go into logging events and create our own task, but it would be nice if this were more detailed.""Fortra's Automate is not as reliable as I would like it to be.""Sometimes when we communicate with the ERP system and there is an issue, we are not always aware of the specifics of Automate and the source of the problem.""It would be an improvement if Automate had better stability tools, whether by recommending a certain amount of memory because it can be a memory hog at times."

More Fortra's Automate Cons →

"To improve this solution, there could be increased transparency over licensing and consistency regarding what it costs for on-prem and what it costs for the cloud.""With all the different tools that they have in their arsenal, sometimes it's hard to know how we can get the most out of them.""There were a couple of times with the on-premises version that there were complications, since it is not on UiPath's cloud. We have had a lot of complications where we are dead in water. There were a couple of conditions where we weren't able to get someone up to speed on whatever. The support is not as quick to respond as we had hoped.""The support provided by UiPath could be improved.""The variable management is really messy. When I look at the code, I don't know where the variable is and in which scope.""The development life cycle using Automation Anywhere is shorter. With UiPath, the development life cycle is slightly longer, but it is not a major issue.""I don't know if it's UiPath as much as just what we do is really complicated. Even the consultants that we've used with UiPath, even they've said, wow, this is very difficult what you guys do. There are a lot of moving parts, so it's not as much of a UiPath problem in terms of limitations. It's just our own processes.""UiPath does not have a delivery product."

Pricing and Cost Advice
  • "I'm only involved in running the product and maintaining the systems, so I can't speak to the cost."
  • "The pricing is quite reasonable. We can run the process with one bot. The limitation is at the server level because they have some resources, and sometimes that is enough. It isn't too expensive, so you can get a good return off of one, and you can also have a pack of five bots that is quite competitive."
  • "From a distributor's perspective, one of the biggest selling points of Automate is its price point."
  • "The cost is a bit high for a small business like ours, but we manage with Fortra's Automate."
  • "From a distributor's side, one of the biggest selling points is its price point. Without going into any numbers, compared to UiPath, Automation Anywhere, and Blue Prism, we're significantly cheaper. The main difference is that other competitors usually charge you per process. However, in Automate's case, it's priced per bot. So, a bot can run multiple processes at the same time, but you are only priced for a single bot."
  • "Once you buy the software, you just pay for the support for backend help."
  • More Fortra's Automate Pricing and Cost Advice →

  • "Over and above the subscription fees, we're paying probably $51,000 a year right now."
  • "It is pricey at the beginning, but we'll have to see going forward what we get for the tools. It is always expensive to buy a really nice car and not drive it very far and very much. So, it is about utilization."
  • "The pricing for the robots is fair. One thing that annoys us a little bit is that we have to pay for each developer. With Blue Prism, you can have 20 developers and not incur any additional costs. We don't like having to piecemeal all these different licenses. It is providing value, but it is not in the sense of a robot. You're paying for the tools, whereas other people just give you the tools, and then you pay for the bots."
  • "Its actual cost turned out to be about two times more than what we thought it was going to be upfront. There were hardware costs that we were not expecting. Some of the server costs and things of that nature were higher than what we were expecting but based upon the return, it was a net."
  • "In the RPA industry at the moment and in automation in general, UiPath's pricing model is the most consistent. So, if you are looking at year-on-year growth and pricing, or even if you are comparing solutions, each vendor has their own take on how they are going to generate profits and expand their return on investment. By far, UiPath is the most consistent with their pricing. They make it quite clear what they set out to achieve with their pricing and product. That makes their product so much easier to design for, as you don't need to change your pricing and go back to clients every time that you introduce a new aspect into the solution."
  • "Initially, the pricing was a lot more affordable. Now, it seems a bit excessive."
  • "Some of the licenses, such as for Document Understanding, are a little bit expensive. We hope that they will reduce the prices over time, but it's still something new. I understand that it cannot be given away too cheaply in the beginning."
  • "The cost is better than that of other solutions in the market, like Automation Anywhere and Blue Prism. Still, I would like to see them improve the pricing for small and mid-sized organizations... In some cases, if you compare the overall cost of the solution and the cost of human effort, the human effort is cheaper."
