Quick identification of network issues enhances performance monitoring
We will try to Proof of Concept (POC) to a client in Taiwan. We just use the features for the Network Performance Monitor (NPM) Flowmon is more easy to understand and helps find network issues more quickly. We need this solution to monitor the network performance. We started using it three…

Has improved network visibility and security through micro-segmentation and SDN capabilities
This feature gives us flexibility and allows us to manage everything under one pane. We can see everything on one console, including network operations and behavior. Monitoring and security are among the best features for VMware NSX. For micro-segmentation, it's integrated with our endpoint security. If there are any issues with servers or VMs, it notifies us so we can isolate the servers and investigate. It provides distributed security features such as firewall and intrusion, IDS, IPS. The security level with IPS and IDS in VMware NSX is excellent. It also provides logical switching and routing which gives an extra layer for Layer 2 and Layer 3 switching requirements. The solution provides flexibility, automation, and self-service capabilities, resulting in cost savings as extensive expertise isn't required. Once automation and self-service are implemented, many tasks can be completed automatically. Load balancing is another excellent feature. Multiple servers can run on load balancing features, which is particularly useful since we have many application servers running. Sharing loads between servers provides the best performance.

"The artificial intelligence and automatic detection system in Flowmon Solution are perfect for every, type of customer, such as government and commerce."
"If people or users are complaining that the network is slow, Flowmon can easily detect the cause of the network problem."
"Flowmon is more easy to understand and helps find network issues more quickly."
"The solution is stable."
"It is an open platform, so in terms of integration, we are quite happy. We can integrate it with other SNMP solutions. We can also integrate it with security solutions, such as a SIEM solution."
"The initial setup was straightforward. It follows a certain structure and you won't miss a step. It's all on the same level, step by step."
"I have found the solution to be stable."
"The most valuable and unique feature of the solution is Micro-segmentation achieving better security, through enabling security architects to divide data centre into different segments, one being the VMS within the on-premises, the other one on the Cloud."
"It gives more security and micro-segmentation and helps to set network configurations in an easy way."
"If you understand the benefits of server virtualisation with vSphere (abstraction of the Operating System from the hardware, etc.), you can apply the same logic to network virtualisation."
"It has allowed our customers to scale extend their existing IP subnets and spin up new subnets on-demand for new app web DB tiers, increasing overall VM-to-VM security and policy deployments and helping increase operational efficiency from a network management perspective."
"The solution is easy to use and is good for management control."
"It's pretty stable. Just deploy it and just forget about it."

Cons

"The licensing price could be better."
"I do not know the detailed pricing."
"It would be helpful to have more details about the monitoring of the infrastructure. It should have support for SNMP."
"If there was better visualization in Flowmon Solution it would be good."
"If there was better visualization in Flowmon Solution it would be good."
"It would be helpful to have more details about the monitoring of the infrastructure. It should have support for SNMP. This is something that is currently not there in the product."
"The price of the license could be lower."
"There are sometimes mismatch in the control, the details and what you actually see on the transport note."
"The price could be better. The non-enterprise version of the product should also be improved. I would like VMware to expand beyond the network and provide some VLAN technologies and more. I think we have one, but it's more on the distribution side because it's more on the upper side of the network. I'm looking forward to that."
"The support needs improvement."
"It still needs to grow. There are still some features that it doesn't do, like it doesn't do multicasting."
"It could be cheaper!"
"One aspect that needs improvement is the need for further automation."
"Some configuration maximums are limiting to the user, especially when it comes to the deployment of very, very large environments."
"The solution is only sold as part of a bundle and not as an individual product."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"The licensing fee accrues only once, but that of support is annual."
"It works with a permanent license, and then you can pay for the support. For the gold support, you need to pay yearly."
"The price of the solution could be better."
"We can't go without NSX, so it's invaluable from this perspective."
"The subscription is on a yearly basis."
"We are using a perpetual license to use the solution and we have support."
"The price of this product is too high."
"We haven't had to hire a dedicated network engineer because NSX handles 90 percent of it. The reduced overhead in terms of managing networks has been the biggest plus."
"The pricing is higher than other options from Palo Alto, Fortinet, and Cisco because it is sold in a bundle."
"The licensing fees are expensive and we pay on a yearly basis."
"You can scale NSX if you have the resources, but it's usually expensive and complex to scale up."
