We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use.
Here are some excerpts of what they said:
Pros
"Ability to assign zero trust policies from the user.""The Client 360 feature provides a comprehensive view of your clients and their activities, including the devices they use. Additionally, a feature called Network 360 offers a 360-degree view of the network, like data usage (in GB), the status of ports and AP, and other details. You can drill down on granular-level drills to gain insights into specific applications and usage patterns like application level and fee, where your data is being wasted or what your clients are doing with the Internet data, what kind of applications they are using, etc.""Whenever I have a concern, question, or just need a refresher the helpful staff at AeroHive is there to help me. By far, the ]best relationship I have ever had with a vendor.""The few times we have needed help, Aerohive has been there for us and I am confident that If I need them they will be there again.""I like ExtremeCloud IQ's unified single-pane-of-glass dashboard. It offers a lot of visibility of performance, and it's great for troubleshooting. You don't have to go to 55 different places. You can get the information you need with just a few clicks.""It is more cost effective and gives more flexibility.""It allows me to see APs and clients that are having issues, allowing for faster support response and less downtime.""Extreme is transitioning to 802.11ax facilities running the 2G and the 5G cloud, allowing for higher density in education use cases, and ExtremeCloud IQ provides you with novel ways to manage everything. In the old days, you used to have a controller on-site for your access points, but everything is easier now."

"You have access to CLI in case you have no web access.""Simple interface and easy to deploy.""It's simple to operate and use.""I prefer FortiGate because it has a lot of other solutions embedded within it and is the easiest for our technicians to operate.""The most valuable features of Fortinet FortiGate IPS are the dashboard and reporting which give us very good visibility.""I like the solution's stability.""The initial setup is straightforward.""It is easy to set up."

Cons
"Having a wizard for customers who are just starting might be helpful.""I know a school district, a big school district of mine, ripped out Extreme due to inefficiencies. It was the guest network that can be a struggle. They tried to differentiate between their primary network, and then offer a secondary.""A room for improvement in ExtremeCloud IQ is roaming. My team is facing roaming issues with the solution, particularly when using VoIP over WiFi. For example, VoIP sometimes breaks when you walk around the customer site. In terms of what I'd like to see in the next release of the solution, right now, the inventory for ExtremeCloud IQ is awful. There's no stock, and you must wait a year and a half for new stocks. It's awful.""ExtremeCloud IQ’s user interface needs to be improved, and its current bugs need to be fixed.""A mobile app would be awesome.""Lacks cyber asset tracking.""Need port aggregation on the 2384 switches to take full advantage of ac on the APs. I understand that is on their product road map.""Their firewall configuration gets funky and it can be difficult to understand."

"Deploying FortiGate is hard.""The solution could maybe use more integration with artificial intelligence to be more proactive.""We would like to see an improvement in the consistency of the product's performance levels.""They should provide us with a CSV number for patch updates. It will help us block specific signatures as well.""I have used technical support and they could improve.""Fortinet can add some Machine Learning and AI to improve its accuracy and give it an edge on IPS detection and protection.""They can probably improve the reporting feature. Reporting and report alerting are the main key features of this solution. They can always find ways to improve these.""IPs are not handled well and the process is unnecessarily complicated."

Pricing and Cost Advice
  • "Although the pricing is a bit high, I consider Aerohive to be well worth the money."
  • "Buy near the end of Q4 in order to get a deal."
  • "Bring the cost down."
  • "I would advise that you be sure to compare apples with apples. Many customers just look at the price per AP and licences, and compare that against other solutions. But, they do not look at the complete picture such as: TCO - how much the equipment will cost you over, say, seven years? Will the customer need to change complete infrastructure when they want to buy the newest hardware? Does support include a lifetime warranty and RMA?"
  • "For example, if you compare Aruba vs Aerohive, you need to check which licences from Aruba you need to match the functionality of Aerohive (usually you need at least three types of licences and a controller with redundancy). The same goes with Cisco, where you need buy additional licences for central management, firewall, spectral analysis, WIPS, PPSK, etc. Aerohive has a very simple model - one licence for all the functionalities - and you can believe that there are many. One licence makes it easy to maintain, scale, renew and you can plan your costs 10 years in advance."
  • "Start small and grow big. You can choose the basic Aerohive Connect free subscription solution and, later, if needed (in terms of functionality) you can upgrade to Aerohive Select."
  • "There are probably cheaper solutions but we invest for stability and performance for the longer haul."
  • "I did a multi-year license. It was a three-year license. It compares well with others in terms of the price. It is about a hundred dollars per year on a three-year scale."

  • "The pricing for FortiGate IPS is competitive with other products in the category."
  • "We are currently evaluating a Palo Alto solution, and the pricing could be a reason for going for Palo Alto."
  • "They are more expensive than others."
  • "It is not expensive as compared to Cisco."
  • "The price is okay, so far so good."
  • "The solution could be better priced."
  • "The licensing costs are very competitive."
  • "There is an annual license to use this solution. The prices have been increasing over the years."

It is designed to secure a user’s system from end to end and ensure that users are equipped to handle even the most sophisticated threats. Organizations across a wide variety of industries trust IPS to help them prevent unwanted intrusions from harming their networks.

    Fortinet FortiGate IPS Benefits

Some of the ways that organizations can benefit by choosing to deploy Fortinet FortiGate IPS include:

    • Vulnerability scanning and patching. IPS scans for threats on a deeper level than more traditional software might. It penetrates the uppermost layer of a network and identifies vulnerabilities that might not be easily spotted. It scans the entire network to give administrators a full understanding of the potential threats that they might have to address. They can then patch the points of vulnerability before those areas can be exploited.

    • Flexibility. IPS is highly flexible in that it is truly agnostic. It is capable of operating across a wide variety of devices and environments. Any network, cloud, or device type that an organization wants to protect can run IPS. Users do not need to buy any other solution to enable this to operate in the way that they need.

    • Reliability. IPS provides a complete protective package without requiring users to sacrifice speed. It allows for quick threat identification and remediation.

    Fortinet FortiGate IPS Features

    • Machine learning and AI. IPS puts powerful machine learning and AI tools into the hands of its users. These tools enable users to find threats that users might not otherwise be able to identify. They identify vulnerabilities that traditional software simply cannot and enables users to address them before they can escalate. They analyze every portion of an organization’s network architecture to find areas that can be exploited.

    • Integration suite. IPS enables users to integrate their security with many different cloud and application security services. This gives users the option to plug any feature hole that they might perceive. Advanced threats that ordinarily cannot easily be dealt with using IPS’ features can now be easily resolved. Organizations can seamlessly combine the features that IPS offers with other platforms to bolster their effectiveness and resolve virtually any type of threat.

    • Security controls. IPS comes equipped with security controllers that enable users to run it on the web server application of their choice.

    Reviews from Real Users

Fortinet FortiGate IPS is a highly effective solution that stands out when compared to many of its competitors. Two major advantages are the powerful zero-day protection features and the way it manages to compete with even its fiercest competitors.

Srahavan A., the CEO of a computer software company, said, “We like signature-based anomaly detection and zero-day protection features. For zero-day protection, we use Cloud Sandboxing, so whenever the zero-day threat occurs, it automatically sends it to its Cloud Sandbox. After getting information from Cloud Sandbox, then the intrusion is defined.”

Sachin V., a network administrator said, “We've found the most valuable feature to be the very user-friendly interface... It has a good set of UTM features, a good bandwidth shaping mechanism, and other features. It has efficient algorithms and it competes well with Palo Alto and TechPoint.
