A highly stable tool for managing mainframe software development projects that require significant expertise
We use the basic feature set of Endevor to control and track all of the sales operations within our company.  It is a very good product that allows safe management of the individual components. The tools are specifically designed for mainframe environments, providing features tailored to the…

Have faced challenges in getting timely responses but have managed to streamline workflows and reduce infrastructure costs
My current company was not using any products apart from AMQ. I suggested it to them, which is why they started using it. I also suggested it to the customer. The feedback for Red Hat AMQ has been good. Based on this, we suggest it to our customers, and they are happy using that product. Our big customer, FedEx, which is one of the best and biggest giants in logistics and courier, started using it and they are happy with that. The base operating system, RHEL 8 and 9, is being used across the infrastructure. The server and critical applications and data are running on Red Hat 8 and 9. We are performing proper maintenance of the OS and it is working fantastically. We have not received any issues or complaints. Our domains include Human Gateway, pharmaceuticals, and automobile clients. The critical application is running on Microsoft Azure DevOps Server. When developers send code to us, we create the CI/CD pipeline and schedule jobs. The solution provides time savings and infrastructure savings. Multiple virtual machines are not required when installing applications in containerization, which saves infrastructure costs. We receive notifications about CPU, memory, and disk space utilization from time to time.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"It was an easy install. Since it was all set up, it pretty much runs itself now."
"We can make it do pretty much whatever we want, depending on just how complicated we want it to be, as it is pretty flexible."
"Stability has been really good. I have actually never had to open an issue or report an issue since I have been running it."
"We have used it for years and never had any real issues with it."
"In the last year or so, we had a need to start using a CICS web services, and mesh them in with some distributed functions on an enterprise service bus. We put the web services into Endevor and we manage that way now."
"Our automation, our development implementations are all automated, which is a huge amount of time savings."
"We have been able to replicate entire SDLCs for new clients and have them loaded and ready to use Endevor in as little as one week. This was possible with the use of Endevor variables within the processors, so that a single processor was able to function for multiple systems across the entire SDLC."
"Being able to compare versions is helpful."
"Visual Studio Team System is the most powerful IDE available in the market."
"Microsoft Azure DevOps Server is a go-to product because it has everything in one place for project management, delivery, code, and similar functionalities."
"The solution is pretty stable."
"The product is efficient."
"I am not familiar with any issues with respect to stability, and I have never seen Team System crash."
"The solution is scalable, stable and has allowed us to upgrade our frameworks."
"Microsoft makes great products. They are quite robust."
"The product helps with version control. I can build, develop, test and deploy applications from a single platform."

Cons

"I would like to have better integration with other products."
"If I had to comment on an area of improvement or something new in the next or future version, I would like to see AI-assisted coding and impact analysis for mainframes."
"One feature of Endevor is its Backout feature. If there is a problem, it can back out the executables. The only problem with that is that it will not back out the source in Endevor. For example, you can do a back out and it will back out the executable to the previous version, but it doesn't back out the source version in Endevor. It would make it much better if when you did a back out of Endevor, it would back out both the source and the executable and keep them in sync."
"It is still kind of behind the times. It needs to catch up with all the millennials that want a distributed look and feel."
"The main challenges are its limited interface and the complexity of the customization."
"The initial setup can be less complex and has room for improvement."
"Learning the tool for the first time was extremely difficult, and it could be because of all the other processes we had around it. But knowing you can do these things in batch, you can do things in the foreground or online mode, and then these, you have to have a package for. There are these rules, and some of the concepts inside the tool are not clear, like what is the CCID? Why do I have to have one? What is that? And how is it used? As a developer, it's not important to me - I don't know what a CCID is, and I don't care - but apparently it's important to someone."
"They need to ditch the Eclipse plugin and just make the development environment for Z the standard Eclipse interface."
"I have seen customizations with Team System that allowed it to integrate into other ticketing systems like Jira, which would be a really nice feature to see."
"The product must improve its stability."
"Accessibility switches available on the desktop should also be available on mobile devices for coding or developing on the go."
"The user experience for the task assignment functionality, and more generally the software lifecycle development, needs to be improved."
"When you go into the front-end, the web portal, if, for example, you pick up an issue, it would be ideal if the branch was automatically created in the repository. Right now, this isn't the case."
"Support response time could stand improvement."
"The stability of the product could be better."
"The tool's subscriptions are expensive for medium and small businesses. It works fine on Windows. However, it is not stable on other platforms."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"It's worth the value. The pricing is fairly good, justifiable for the return on investment."
"The solution is very expensive."
"Licensing is fairly simple, you don't need multiple licenses."
"The product is expensive."
"Just make sure if you are going to license, ensure you license the right features."
"It's competitively priced and, as far as I know, it's just an enterprise license. We have found it is worth the money."
"There is no fee for the solution's community version."
"It is an open-source product from Microsoft."
"The tool's licensing costs are yearly."
"The price could be better."
"You can choose pricing from a variety of options. I would rate the product's pricing a six out of ten."
