Search and aggregations have transformed how I manage and visualize complex real estate data
Elastic Search consumes lots of memory. You have to provide the heap size a lot if you want the best out of it. The major problem is when a company wants to use Elastic Search but it is at a startup stage. At a startup stage, there is a lot of funds to consider. However, their use case is that they have to use a pretty significant amount of data. For that, it is very expensive. For example, if you take OLTP-based databases in the current scenario, such as ClickHouse or Iceberg, you can do it on 4GB RAM also. Elastic Search is for analytical records. You have to do the analytics on it. According to me, as far as I have seen, people will start moving from Elastic Search sooner or later. Why? Because it is expensive. Another thing is that there is an open source available for that, such as ClickHouse. Around 2014 and 2012, there was only one competitor at that time, which was Solr. But now, not only is Solr there, but you can take ClickHouse and you have Iceberg also. How are we going to compete with them? There is also a fork of Elastic Search that is OpenSearch. As far as I have seen in lots of articles I am reading, users are using it as the ELK stack for logs and analyzing logs. That is not the exact use case. It can do more than that if used correctly. But as it involves lots of cost, people are shifting from Elastic Search to other sources. When I am talking about pricing, it is not only the server pricing. It is the amount of memory it is using. The pricing is basically the heap Java, which is taking memory. That is the major problem happening here. If we have to run an MVP, a client comes to me and says, "Anurag, we need to do a proof of concept. Can we do it if I can pay a 4GB or 16GB expense?" How can I suggest to them that a minimum of 16GB is needed for Elastic Search so that your proof of concept will be proved? In that case, what I have to suggest from the beginning is to go with Cassandra or at the initial stage, go with PostgreSQL. The problem is the memory it is taking. That is the only thing.

Real-time integration and seamless data synchronization enhance user experience
The stability of Oracle GoldenGate Cloud Service is one of its most useful features, although its performance is not too steady. It excels with bidirectional data synchronization. It supports diverse databases and platforms. We link the ODS with numerous source systems, including Oracle, Tarek Data, and Microsoft, with no integration issues. The solution caters to enterprise needs, fitting any organizational requirement, apart from data security issues common to cloud solutions. The cloud data security challenge is notable, necessitating solutions such as private cloud offerings to allay security concerns.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"Elastic is doing a fantastic job by doing the indexing, and with a couple of indexing configurations, we are able to achieve our goal even though we are maintaining a huge amount of data per day, around millions of transactions for each record."
"I appreciate that Elastic Enterprise Search is easy to use and that we have people on our team who are able to manage it effectively."
"The solution has good security features. I have been happy with the dashboards and interface."
"The most valuable features are the ease and speed of the setup."
"The most valuable features are the data store and the X-pack extension."
"The Attack Discovery feature helps to dig into incidents from where they occurred to determine how the incident originated and its source; it gives an entire path of attack propagation, showing when it started, what happened, and all events that took place to connect the entire cyber incident."
"Overall, considering key aspects like cost, learning curve, and data indexing architecture, Elasticsearch is a very good tool."
"The pricing and license model are clear: node-based model."
"GoldenGate can aggregate various data types from different sources."
"GoldenGate's best features are the desktop security features."
"Scalability-wise, I rate the solution a ten out of ten."
"We are heavily involved with GitHub for managing repositories, automatic deployments, and inner source projects."
"The stability of Oracle GoldenGate Cloud Service is one of its most useful features, although its performance is not too steady; it excels with bidirectional data synchronization and supports diverse databases and platforms."
"Oracle Database generally guarantees a good response for customer use cases."
"It provides a good response for external microservices applications."
"GoldenGate is a good solution to implement in terms of scalability and flexibility."

Cons

"This is not exactly a stable solution, which is why we are considering another compatible tool, and whether we go on with Elasticsearch or change it."
"There are a few things that did not work for us. When doing a search in a bigger setup, with a huge amount of data where there are several things coming in, it has to be on top of the index that we search."
"The UI point of view is not very powerful because it is dependent on Kibana."
"According to me, as far as I have seen, people will start moving from Elastic Search sooner or later. Why? Because it is expensive."
"To do what we want to do with Elastic Search, the queries can get complex and require a fuller understanding of the DSL."
"Machine learning on search needs improvement."
"I would like to see more integration for the solution with different platforms."
"Improving machine learning capabilities would be beneficial."
"With Oracle GoldenGate Cloud Service, we have usual cloud solution issues such as privacy and data security."
"Over the past four to five years, I have experienced many problems when opening support requests."
"The initial setup was a little complex, and we required support from Oracle to complete it."
"The initial setup was a little complex, and we required support from Oracle to complete it."
"Support could be improved. They lack knowledge."
"More technical documentation is needed, especially in terms of mapping and conversion of data, while integration would also be very helpful."
"Oracle GoldenGate Cloud Service lacks AI. If AI gets introduced in Oracle GoldenGate Cloud Service, it would be much easier to do analysis."
"Oracle is always adding new features. I can't think of anything that's urgent currently."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"We are using the open-sourced version."
"The pricing and license model are clear: node-based model."
"The tool is an open-source product."
"An X-Pack license is more affordable than Splunk."
"This product is open-source and can be used free of charge."
"The price of Elasticsearch is fair. It is a more expensive solution, like QRadar. The price for Elasticsearch is not much more than other solutions we have."
"This is a free, open source software (FOSS) tool, which means no cost on the front-end. There are no free lunches in this world though. Technical skill to implement and support are costly on the back-end with ELK, whether you train/hire internally or go for premium services from Elastic."
"The solution is less expensive than Stackdriver and Grafana."
"I rate the product price a six on a scale of one to ten, where one is cheap, and ten is expensive."
