Has significantly improved document-driven workflows and reduced processing time across finance and HR functions
Automation Anywhere has evolved significantly and upgraded itself to provide agentic AI and AI-based automation solutions for document automation. The product has matured considerably over time. We can create workflows that can call an API. We can include prompts in particular workflows for ChatGPT-related functions, connecting to an LLM and RAG to perform tasks. For document automation, modern features are available to train documents, ensuring high accuracy and repeatability over time. The system is very easy to use. I recently completed a course in document automation, typically designed for people involved in coding and technical aspects. Though I understand coding comprehensively, I don't do actual coding. The course was very accessible. Currently, extensive coding isn't necessary due to the hybrid model incorporating GenAI aspects, low-code, no-code capabilities, APIs, and numerous pre-built objects in Automation Anywhere. The features include GenAI-driven prompting methods and workflow creation capabilities. In these workflows, we can create decision boxes and call APIs without coding. We simply pull objects, drop them, connect them, and add minimal coding when needed. The most crucial aspect isn't coding but rather sizing the automation and fleshing out the details. Automation Co-pilot takes notes and performs automated analysis. It can extract details from videos, summarize conversations, and provide detailed information. During calls, it identifies instructions and performs tasks such as preparing reports and reconciliation. Automation Anywhere can also connect with Microsoft Co-pilot. Through Co-pilot, real-time operations can be executed, allowing direct interaction between vendors and automation through this component.

Offers a user-friendly interface but lacks enterprise-level features
EdgeVerve AssistEdge RPA is not difficult to deploy and the process was fine. Concerning deployment time, it usually takes one or two days. It totally depends upon the number of use cases and the processes where we are implementing. It might take weeks as well, depending upon the process in which we are implementing.

High-accuracy document processing with easy integration and good image enhancement
The OCR extractions are very good, almost 100% accurate now. The integration with other tools is very easy, with inbuilt actions to configure and directly export to multiple depositories. It is also good at image enhancement, including the removal of lines, which is helpful in processing and automation and ensures very little user intervention, thus saving time.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"Automation Anywhere has improved my organization by automating many rule-based and nonjudgmental processes in domains like telecommunications, human resources, financial services, and daily or monthly reporting."
"We are using it for scripting, and it is end user based with screen captures. It is a bit easier to use than any of the other tools out there."
"Automation Anywhere is quite easy to use for users who are not technical, especially business users."
"The best features of Automation Anywhere include the user interface, which is quite easy to use now compared to its previous versions that were more difficult, and all code is visible during coding, showing what is going ahead and what follows in the code, which is not available in other RPA tools such as UiPath, making it a standout feature."
"The benefits we get from automation include faster and more accurate matching, running 24x7."
"We are making less mistakes and have more metrics available to understand what our problems are. Now, we can do root cause analysis and have less noise in the system during the process."
"They can build an end-to-end solution with Automation Anywhere."
"Automation Co-Pilot helped increase productivity."
"The feature I like the most is the ability to capture elements easily, especially when automating web-based applications. Additionally, I find the SAP connectors to be quite beneficial."
"The features of EdgeVerve AssistEdge RPA that customers find most helpful include the easy understanding and good UI/UX."
"AssistEdge made it so that the reps didn't need to maneuver through 10 or 20 different systems. We tied all that together in the background, so the reps had a shared UI, and everything else happened in the background without their knowledge. When they were retrieving data, it was done in the background through automation and pulling up to that generic UI layer"
"The tool follows a role-based working model to create things. It helps to track what others are doing with the system."
"There are some typical features I like such as email automation, XL automation, some AI/ML capabilities that are evolving, but are not quite mature yet, and I like the website automation."
"EdgeVerve AssistEdge RPA is more affordable than UiPath."
"The user interface is not complicated, even for new users. Two to three weeks is enough to get ahold of it."
"Good email automation and XL automation."
"I can have all scanners accessible from my end."
"The OCR extractions are very good, almost 100% accurate now."
"Both Datacap Studio and Datacap Navigator are great features."
"This tool can be easily integrated with the Amazon Web Services, Microsoft Azure, or IBM cloud."
"It's resiliency, with multiple ways of identifying what you are looking for and multiple export formats, and it's a platform, not a configured application, so you can do what you want with it."
"I work for an insurance company, and we use Datacap for document processing."
"One of the valuable features of Datacap is the user experience. One thing that IBM did a few years ago was they standardized all of their ECM products on Content Navigator, including Datacap. If you're an IBM ECM customer you have FileNet, you have Datacap, you have StoredIQ and you have a consistent user experience, user interface."
"It is highly scalable; we have customers who are pumping through thousands of documents a day, and if you're looking for enterprise, this is the solution because it is a platform."

Cons

"Automation Anywhere can be improved by integrating self-correction capabilities into the bots, particularly as we develop RPA, where changes in environment paths require additional redeveloping efforts."
"They should consider being more multi-platform."
"Sometimes I get challenges with the customer support team; when I contact them, they are sometimes busy, and I get delays in replies."
"Automation Anywhere is a tool. It is not able to go ahead and extract the hand-written documents. Most of the automation tools that we have in the market are not able to get an accuracy of close to 80 to 90 percent on hand-written documents. So, I'm eagerly looking at a release from Automation Anywhere, wherein they could plug in an LP or look at some sort of a platform which could convert hand-written documents into a readable format. If they could bring in they own platform, this would make a big in-roads for the entire automation industry."
"They need to improve the stability of the core functionality. If they keep the core constant and constant, they will continue to thrive."
"The customer service could be improved."
"I would like to have a bot as a service platform on AA Cloud. This would minimize the installation process, and we wouldn't need to have all the hardware to support the platform in-house."
"Automation Anywhere has some limitations."
"In my opinion, areas for improvement in this solution lie in handling documentation, especially when dealing with data from various layouts or formats like scanned PDFs. Currently, new features are emerging in other tools, like generative AI, that could enhance these aspects."
"There should be more activities like extraction for reading or converting PDFs. There are fewer activities compared to other tools. There are no custom activities."
"AssistEdge isn't a simple tool like Blue Prism or other RPA solutions with configurable items that you can drag and drop. This involved a lot of hard coding, which posed two challenges. One, we did not have that skillset, so we depended on Infosys. Two, it's a beast to go back and update or make changes when things are hard coded because you can't just move those configurable items back around."
"The solution could be improved if it provided integration with third party tools like Python, native integration, which is very important."
"We provide them with consulting and strategy advisory services, but we have never recommended any organization to use EdgeVerve AssistEdge RPA."
"The tool's alternatives work on drag-and-drop functionality without creating custom code. We don't have an in-built queue system and use RabbitMQ for it. The solution also doesn't have a framework."
"Lacks integration with third party tools."
"Speed of OCR is one issue. It's a challenge because we have customers that have millions and millions of pages that they want this solution to crank through. In order to do that you have to have a large infrastructure in place, and that directly impacts licensing based on the core count."
"I would like to see integration of Watson AI technology into Datacap."
"If it is registered as a critical issue, we receive a response from IBM after one day which can cause our clients to lose business."
"When I scan a document in Datacap that has a watermark or the document is a little distorted, the image output is poor."
"There should be an increase in the capacity of the workflows. Datacap is a little limited in this aspect. So, you cannot really implement all the possibilities."
"We used an integrator for the deployment, and our experience was very bad. They gave us an unreliable, broken solution which did not work, then they would not work with us."
"Third-party integration is slow especially through API calls because if you want to integrate between Datacap and BPM, it can only be done in that direction (and not BPM to Datacap)."
"The reading efficiency of the solution needs to be improved."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"It's cheaper than other similar solutions."
"On average, a bot runner in Automation Anywhere can cost $5,000, while in Microsoft Power Automate, you can get most of the same functionality for $100."
"In terms of pricing, it's not at all cheap, and that's a concern. The licensing cost is very high. While I don't know the exact prices of other tools, Microsoft offers the lowest pricing for its RPA platform compared to UiPath and Automation Anywhere."
"We just did a round of price comparison on a global scale and found it's so hard to compare the license prices. But, Automation Anywhere, in general, is on the same price level as the other vendors, a bit lower in some cases."
"Cost-wise, it is fine. A lot of medium businesses prefer Automation Anywhere. The development cost is also lower."
"Its usage is expensive for us because my user base is mostly in Manila and KL. The unit cost of labor is cheaper there than in the U.S. or Australia, which puts a bit more stress on how to get a positive ROI while continuing to use it."
"Automation Anywhere's pricing is significantly higher than other RPA solutions."
"The pricing is reasonable and one can achieve ROI faster when compared to other tools."
"EdgeVerve AssistEdge RPA is cheaper compared to other RPA tools."
"This solution offers seamless integration with other enterprise products, which is my area of responsibility, focusing on government sector projects. Larger enterprise projects don't pose problems. It might be suitable for small businesses as well."
"IBM could offer more competitive pricing. This would allow them to attain more users. Some of our clients are considering moving to a different solution called Encapture which is similar but offers more competitive pricing."
"If you want IBM Datacap on cloud, which is a service run by IBM, the price can be quite expensive, but if you want to just purchase the licenses and own those yourself, then the price is very competitive."
"Pricing depends on how much we use it. We pay per bulk quantity. We pay as you go. Therefore, it sort of depends on our usage of it."
"We were using the User Value Unit licensing, which means we get charged per active user of the system, and if I'm not mistaken, we also had it for the rule runner service. They had a PVU license model, which is a processor value unit. For each process that we have in our system, we pay a certain amount of money. We found the pricing to be quite steep. It was really an expensive solution in comparison to Kofax, which had a different licensing model and was actually cheaper overall because they charge per page and not per user and per process."
"It varies, and it depends on the client's requirements and negotiations. Nowadays, Datacap is also included in the IBM Cloud Pak for Business Automation."
"It is an expensive solution."
"Pricing needs to stay competitive."
