Quotes From Members
We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use.
Here are some excerpts of what they said:
Pros
"The dashboarding itself was pretty easy. So both the front and the back end were positive in this case.""In general, Domo is very powerful and very easy to use, relatively speaking.""We find the ease of using the solution valuable.""The most valuable feature currently is the self-service BI availability in Domo. I would say the data file fabric solutions where the users themselves are responsible for generating their own reports.""The solution is highly stable.""We have found securing data valuable because it allows us to provide information without identifying individuals.""The best feature of Domo is that it's completely on the cloud. I also like that you can handle data end-to-end without having to depend on multiple tools. Another specific feature I like the most about Domo is Magic ETL because, through it, you can do all your expression, transformation, and loading activities very smoothly. The tool also follows the lineage concept, so you can understand what kind of transformations took place on a particular data set. You can find end-to-end data from the source until it has become the final output or the final data set. Whatever happened to a particular data set, you can understand it through the Domo lineage, and that isn't possible in most of the tools available in the market, but in Domo, that's available. The tool is also solid and because it's on the cloud, it uses multiple data engineering in the backend and multiple algorithms in the back, behind the scenes, resulting in a great performance. For example, if an end user such as the CEO or COO opens a report or the dashboard and it takes more than ten seconds, the end user won't be interested in looking at that report or dashboard, but Domo enables better performance and there's usually no performance issues from that tool.""The dashboard is the most valuable feature and allows for customization to create and share reports."

"It seems stable. I haven't heard of any difficulties from my clients that utilize Power BI.""The most valuable feature is definitely the visual aspect and the DAX capabilities to virtually do anything.""I like all the tools in Microsoft BI because they all have different purposes. There are a lot of people using Microsoft BI, and everybody is using it. The users have adapted well to the technology.""The stability is good.""The dashboards of Microsoft BI are easy to use.""Management reporting solution that's very stable and scalable.""The solution is not that difficult to install, although this will vary with the experience of the person responsible for its installation.""This product has a lot of features and most of them are user-friendly."

Cons
"One of the improvements that could be made is related to improved storage options.""They should include service-based reporting features.""It is expensive.""I would like to see better data intake.""There were very few cases on some of the tables, the data tables, where I wish there was an additional feature or two.""There's a learning curve before you can get used to the solution.""Domo or any other BI tool has room for improvement, in particular, in the calculations. User-guided material isn't available for calculations. The tool, though user-friendly, could also be more customizable, especially when you're building a dashboard. Data integration could also be improved in Domo because even if the tool connects to multiple data sources, some hiccups still arise and need to be addressed.""It is expensive."

More Domo Cons →

"The reporting needs to be improved.""Microsoft BI lacks integration capabilities, so it needs to consider increasing its integration capabilities.""Automation could be improved and performance enhanced.""We haven't used it that long and I haven't come across anything that's stood out as needing to be fixed.""One opportunity for improvement would be on the Power Query side. As a consultant, I know Power Query is not the main strength of Power BI. It is not where Power BI shines, but many customers use Power Query to do full ETL workloads for deliverable cookies.""BI is scalable, but there are some problems with limited online storage.""Most of the dashboarding tools have prebuilt graphs. So, you have to stick with them, unless you are going to use a third-party tool to create them, and then you are going to upload them to the BI tool. In Power BI, they started supporting this functionality and created a tool for that, but it isn't yet complete and mature. It is still exceeding the expectations and is better than most of the BI tools when it comes to creating custom graphs, but it needs more enhancement and simplification. It would be good to have a design tool provided by Power BI to design the graphs that we want and set the figures that we want on them.""Microsoft has made a lot of progress with Power BI in the past couple of years, but there is still some room for improvement. For example, Integration is one area they could work on. They are adding more integration with other Microsoft tools, but I would like it if they sped up the process."

Pricing and Cost Advice
  • "It started out at about $600 a seat. However, then as we started to grow, it scaled that down to about $330 or 3$50 a seat, if I'm not mistaken."
  • "Domo has more than one licensing model. You can choose between the yearly subscription and the per-user licensing model. The tool is flexible in terms of licensing. As for the cost, Domo is an end-to-end BI tool so its pricing is a little higher than other players in the market, for example, non end-to-end BI tools such as OBIEE and Tableau specific only for business intelligence and presenting data to the end users, unlike Domo which handles everything. You want to get Domo as an integration tool, an ETL tool, etc. As the tool is end-to-end, its cost is always going to be a little higher than other BI tools, but it's worth paying because you won't have to spend extra for other activities. After all, Domo can do those activities."
  • "I think it is reasonable."
  • "The pricing differs from customer to customer, depending on the package."
  • "The solution is expensive compared to one of its competitors."
  • More Domo Pricing and Cost Advice →

  • "There are a few options available for purchasing a license. Typically the number of users you have will determine the price of the license. The more users you have the more you will pay."
  • "Power BI's price is reasonable, especially if you can put it in some bigger package and use it with other products. The value of a solution doesn't just come from its features as a standalone product. The price should also reflect how easy it's to set up, clean data, and integrate with other solutions."
  • "The premium capacity is very costly in respect of the market in Egypt, amounting to $5,000 monthly."
  • "Compared to others, I think it is reasonable."
  • "If it has to be applied on the cloud, then it costs around $10 per month per user. For a pro license and for a premium license it's around $20 per month per user. If it has to be applied on-premises then, depending on the course of your server, you have to buy a software assurance version of the database."
  • "Its price is very low. It is like $10 per user, per month. The clients pay for their own licenses. It is not on us. There are no costs in addition to the standard licensing fees. That's the beauty. With other systems, you need to spend a couple of thousand dollars just to get started, and then you need to spend $500 per year for the license, which becomes much more costly. You have a system here where for $120 to $140 a year, you can start with two people and start developing and deploying. You can see why the cost difference is huge, especially when you are on a low scale, like us, and you're not building something very huge."
  • "You don't need a license for development, but if you want to publish to external users, you need a license. The licensing is very costly, but I think that since the advantages and benefits of Power BI are so high, people are willing to pay. I can't blame them."
  • "In the beginning, the solution cost approximately $1,000 per month, we have a Microsoft startup subscription. There is a subscription pack for startups company which we are able to have for one year."

    Reviews from Real Users

Microsoft BI stands out among its competitors for a number of reasons. Two major ones are its integration options and its data analytics capabilities.

Tariq R., an operations & BI analyst at American Hospital Dubai, writes, “Power BI is a complete ecosystem. It has an integrated ETL tool and good connectivity with applications such as Office 365 and SQL. Power BI supports the DAX and Power Query M languages. These languages are making Power BI very strong in data analytics, and you can do many types of analysis. ”
