A cost-effective and streamlined virtual desktop infrastructure solution with a user-friendly interface and simplified management
The singular management interface is crucial, particularly for the operations team as it minimizes complexity and enhances operational efficiency. The simplicity of the management tools is a key highlight, especially when compared to other solutions like Citrix, where there is often complexity due to various components such as controllers, storefronts, and different servers.

From my perspective, there is significant room for improvement in Horizon 8. Many customers are actively seeking alternatives to VMware due to recent licensing changes after Broadcom's acquisition, necessitating upgrades or bundles that they often do not require. Given that Omniser builds on VMware technologies, this creates a negative perception, pushing customers to consider different brands or solutions.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"The scalability of the solution is quite good."
"The pricing of the solution and management are good features."
"The user experience is quite good."
"Nutanix Frame is easy to install, manage, and upgrade."
"The singular management interface is crucial, particularly for the operations team as it minimizes complexity and enhances operational efficiency."
"The thin image offers efficiency and stability for the system, which is not always available in other alternatives."
"The ability to log in from anywhere is huge."
"It is wonderful for multi-user environments, and it supports different virtual machines and operating systems."
"VMware's technical support gives wonderful support."
"sdfgdfg"
"The ease of deployment is one of the most valuable features. If I want to install something, I can have a test phase to see what sort of impact it will have and whether it will affect production. So I can install it on my lab, make sure it is okay, and if it is, I can deploy it directly to the users or to the staff."
"The solution is stable and highly reliable, we haven't had any issues with bugs, users are able to plug in properly, and the VMs are working fine."
"My customers most likely use Horizon 8 for remote desktop, which means making sure that people can access system resources from anywhere on a secure platform, even from a non-secure, or non-company device."

Cons

"The solution can be made faster and it should improve performance wise."
"It would be highly beneficial if they could offer a version that is entirely on-premises, eliminating the need for cloud connection except for data access."
"The solution’s pricing could be improved."
"As the solution is not completely straightforward, you do need some experience to configure and implement it."
"The storage expansion in the product is a bit difficult to manage, especially when I have to modify a storage requirement of a particular area since it comes across as a complex job."
"The tool is not future-proof anymore."
"Lacking in documentation for app settings."
"I think that simplifying cross-platform use on different devices could be better. Different client versions sometimes don’t work quite as well."
"The pricing can be a challenge because certain features are not standard and require a separate license."
"VMware's technical support is not the best - instead of providing troubleshooting, they give us documentation that we're supposed to use to find solutions."
"The product fails to support Mac or Apple workstations."
"The solution isn't quite mature yet. It needs more time to mature and to get more market recognition."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"The licensing is based on the number of users of the solution."
"It is a cost-effective option with comparable functionality to competitors."
"Nutanix Frame is a very expensive solution."
"The pricing of the solution is very good."
"The product is extremely expensive."
"There are different editions available at different cost points."
"Licensing and hardware outsourcing is expensive, but can be cost-effective in the three to five-year range."
"There is a monthly subscription for the use of this solution and it is expensive."
"The license cost has increased significantly, so we’re helping some customers with Azure VMware desktop solutions to save on licensing."
"VMware Horizon is expensive. It should provide a special price for more user licenses."
"Horizon 7 is cheaper than some competitors, like Citrix, because it includes solutions for the server side, the VDI side, and the hypervisor side."
"VMware Horizon is expensive and I would rate it an eight out of ten."
