Data virtualization has unified siloed sources and now supports real-time decisions
The best features Denodo offers stand out to me as the ability to develop REST web services fast and easily, create and combine new views, integrate different sources of data, and connect with other tools seamlessly. When I mention fast and easy creation of views and integration, I love the agile data provisioning and integration, where Denodo provides a comprehensive set of capabilities for implementing logical data integration, management, and delivery, which in turn enables agile data analytics and an informed decision-making process to be smooth. I also appreciate the performance optimization with AI, which improves performance optimization through the integration of artificial intelligence capabilities. Furthermore, I appreciate the unified security and governance, where it addresses the need for an organization to effectively manage security, data privacy, and data protection easily, offering a centralized platform that allows the application of governance policies and fine-grained security controls. Another feature I would add about Denodo is that it also provides a single point of control where we can establish security controls over the entire infrastructure and gain visibility into all our data assets. Denodo has positively impacted my organization as since we started using this tool, it has been very helpful because it is a huge advantage that we can connect to many different databases to provide data rapidly and accurately and also gain insights, which helps us to make data-driven decisions easily. It has proven to be a valuable environment for deploying data virtualization solutions, and its user community is active in finding and fixing issues more accurately. Through data insights from Denodo, we have been able to improve our decision making, which helps to better communication between the stakeholders thanks to the real-time experience. It also saves a lot of time.

Streamlines secure card data queries and has revealed performance limits that need improvement
The best features Hasura offers are the permissions and the ability to connect to the database seamlessly when we use GraphQL, which Hasura handles exceptionally well. These features impact my day-to-day work positively, as they are tremendously helpful at the application level architecture design. However, the disadvantage revolves around performance. You need to upgrade to the Enterprise version to achieve better performance and ensure proper memory is assigned in your hosting container for optimal speed as required. Hasura impacts our organization positively by being extremely useful. When we create multiple actions and cache them with Hasura, the caching has proven to be more than helpful. Furthermore, integrating OpenTelemetry into our Node application with Hasura has the added benefit of tracking Hasura calls directly, which helps us monitor our performance effectively.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"This solution is a really good way to get all your sources organized when there are data problems and things are scattered everywhere."
"Denodo creates a virtualized environment that provides one unified destination for all data sources so that AI and ML algorithms can connect to that virtualized destination without needing to establish connections with multiple data sources."
"The data catalog feature is valuable as it helps define data structures without storing data."
"Access to numerous forums and internet information."
"The ability to transfer data is very valuable; it is one of the best when considering other ETL tools and is easy to maintain."
"In general, it's good for us to make tests so we can scout the data."
"We can consume data fast."
"In PL/SQL, first you need to gather all the data and then start writing the file, but in Denodo you fetch the data and write the data simultaneously. So, for example, if you have 1 million or 2 million records, you don't have to wait to fetch all of the 2 million; you can keep on fetching and writing in the file simultaneously."
"The most significant benefit I have seen with Hasura is that it makes the developer's job much easier by eliminating the need to write custom APIs and schemas."
"Hasura offers fast prototyping, allowing me to have an instance and an API set up with Docker Compose in five minutes."
"My experience with Hasura was positive, and it has helped us accelerate development and reduce the effort around exposing and maintaining APIs."
"Hasura offers excellent features including role-based filtering, which eliminates the N+1 problem, making it easy to maintain schemas and ensuring fast retrieval and fast mutations."
"Earlier, we took around maybe two days to create some APIs and set up DB and other things; in Hasura we can create tables and relationships and APIs in the end, and DB creation, configuration, and deletion of rows are very easy, so where two days were taken, now we can do it in half to one day at max, and in development effort, very much time is saved and the execution is fast."
"Hasura reduced backend boilerplate and enabled real-time operational dashboards by automatically exposing database changes through GraphQL subscriptions, allowing our services to focus only on business processing while Hasura handled API generation and live data."
"Hasura positively impacted our organization through useful access control, allowing us to directly obtain data without extra layers of access control processes, which increased efficiency and speed."
"Hasura greatly reduced the time to deliver and also definitely increased the productivity as a result."

Cons

"Denodo has some difficulty supporting large numbers of records."
"It would be beneficial to make sure that the team that will be using Denodo has some kind of training on how to use the product at least a month beforehand, and there could even be some kind of feedback or Q&A sessions to go along with the training. If Denodo were able to provide this kind of training, it would be very helpful to users in insurance and banking companies because the staff are typically older and not always technically-minded."
"Data transformation must be improved."
"I think Denodo needs a bit of work with performance management. When data sets are huge and a heavy query has been pushed out to the database, it can take quite some time to get what you need without clear optimization techniques."
"The solution should have its own acceleration technology."
"It requires improving the story of how it can solve specific problems."
"I'd like to see integrations with AWS, GCP and the like."
"Denodo shows stability concerns due to its dependency on external environments, such as JVM."
"My advice for others considering Hasura is that sometimes it may not support capturing remote schemas effectively; for example, if I change something in CockroachDB, it sometimes fails to capture the change until one or two days later."
"The graphical user interface, the web interface that is offered is particularly very slow if you have a lot of endpoints configured."
"There is an issue with HTTP transactions since HTTP is a stateless protocol, making it impossible to maintain transactions, which is the only drawback found in the GraphQL queries."
"Hasura could improve by allowing us to build complex queries within it instead of depending on source databases, which might affect response speed."
"One area where Hasura can improve is handling complex business logic, and for observability and debugging, improvement is needed."
"The learning curve for Hasura is not straightforward, so it takes time to learn."
"Regarding needed improvements, many developers feel that the complex workflow and validations can be difficult to manage at scale, and debugging access issues are a little confusing."
"Hasura can be improved through the subscription part, as the web socket is a little bit slow compared to other web sockets in the market."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"The licensing should be improved, as the cost per connector is quite expensive."
"Cost wise, on a scale from one to five, with one being the cheapest and five being the most expensive, Denodo would be at three. We get all the features in a bundle."
"I am not super familiar with the pricing, but so far, it seems good. We have been happy. We haven't seen any problems. The only time we had to pay extra was during the upgrade. We didn't upgrade at the time they told us to upgrade, and we had to pay extra to keep the service. They had stopped the support for the older version and moved to the newer version. It was not their fault. It was our fault because we didn't get on board quickly."
"The pricing is pretty good, and I would rate it at four out of five."
"Denodo provides a lightweight 30-day free trial, but when we do courses on top of it, it costs $150 for each person."
"For us, the cost has been okay. Also, there are no additional costs; it's just the standard licensing fee."
"There is an express edition and a licensed enterprise edition."
"Talking with my manager and others, nobody has complained about the pricing so far which is a positive sign."
