Secure, easy to use, and dashboard works well
I use this solution with VxRail I have found some of the key features of the solution are it can be configured similar to Cisco, it is secure, easy to use, and the dashboard works well. In some configurations, I am unable to use two switches as one and it causes some problems. In the future, I…

Virtual chassis technology enhances connectivity and simplifies management
Juniper EX series switches offer great technology, particularly their Virtual Chassis technology, which is an excellent feature for stacking switches and functions like a single virtual switch. The EX series provides a separation of control, management, and data planes, reducing the attack surface area, ensuring a lesser extent of vulnerability. The PoE budget is commendable, and they manage connectivity effectively.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"I have found some of the key features of the solution are it can be configured similar to Cisco, it is secure, easy to use, and the dashboard works well."
"Juniper Ethernet Switches are high-end solutions."
"We have multiple cases of the customers trying to upgrade their network from Cisco, Aruba and Huawei to Juniper. They do this basically because they want to modernise their network and have an increased capacity. This shift improves their functionality because the Juniper Ethernet switches are more advanced. We provide them with assistance to configure switches, access points and Wi-Fi."
"Juniper Switches' best feature is its flexibility."
"The security is good."
"Juniper supports all our connectivity infrastructure in our datacenter, supporting optimal availability and performance for services."
"It is easy to configure, and there are three routing switches."
"The thing that sets Juniper apart from most switches is that when you're in the command line and you make a configuration change, you just write the command and then say "commit confirmed minutes". For example, I'm configuring a switch here in my office, which is five miles away, and I say, "commit confirmed 5". If I can't get back to the interface within five minutes to be able to make sure the switch came up, it rolls back to the previous configuration. This way I do not get locked out, or the switch doesn't get messed up because of the incorrect configuration. That's an automatic feature, which is pretty slick. I haven't seen that feature with other vendors that I've worked with. That's probably my most favorite feature."
"What I like most about this solution is that it is secure."

Cons

"In some configurations, I am unable to use two switches as one and it causes some problems."
"The updates are constantly breaking."
"I would like the ability to operate with other operating systems."
"The upgrading of the system should be simplified and made faster."
"The stability could be better. We find, for example, Cisco, to be more stable."
"Juniper should consider reducing its pricing."
"Steep learning curve for newcomers."
"Some areas of technical support could be better."
"In the next release of this solution, I would like to see better integration with software-defined networking."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"The price of the solution is fair."
"We purchased the box for a one-time charge, and we are paying a yearly support fee of several hundred Euros."
"We only pay for support."
"The initial cost of the solution can be expensive."
"We had a leakage in the support process and decided to end the product's life in order to purchase a new product with support. We did not renew product support as a result."
"Support prices and licensing scheme need to be improved to allow some features to be purchased at lower costs, for example, RPM."
"There is a need to make a payment towards the perpetual licensing model offered by the product and also towards the subscription-based model for hardware replacement."
"The solution does not require a license to use it."
"Juniper Ethernet Switches are cheaper than Cisco or HP."

Benefits of Juniper vs Cisco
Both are decent products. I prefer Juniper for the following reasons: 1) Cleaner separation of data plane from control plane. Higher end Cisco devices are better at this but most of the lower end products still seem to be more integrated than I like. 2) The Hierarchical config design means I can…
