Secure, easy to use, and dashboard works well
I use this solution with VxRail I have found some of the key features of the solution are it can be configured similar to Cisco, it is secure, easy to use, and the dashboard works well. In some configurations, I am unable to use two switches as one and it causes some problems. In the future, I…

Has provided reliable performance with useful features such as virtual chassis and high port density
The important thing for our use case of Juniper EX Series Ethernet Switches has been reliability, and there are features such as the Virtual Chassis feature, which is one of the things we use. In our case, we use them as core switches in a network that is not very large, and their reliability and the Virtual Chassis feature work well for us. It was one of the reasons we chose it, along with the port density; we are using the 32 port and the 48 port, which work for our needs. Regarding its security features such as MACsec encryption, they are standard and cover what we want; we do not do a lot as they are just Layer 2 switches, but it has standard security features.

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"I have found some of the key features of the solution are it can be configured similar to Cisco, it is secure, easy to use, and the dashboard works well."
"The most valuable feature is that the CLI is the same on all of the Juniper devices, including routers, switches, and firewalls."
"Junos OS is extremely flexible and easy to pick up."
"I chose Juniper as my primary vendor because it is very stable, reliable, and the price is lower than competitors."
"In terms of performance, Juniper switches have a more user-friendly interface and more features than Cisco products."
"I like that it's fairly easy to implement these ethernet switches."
"The stability is very good."
"Compared to other low-end switches with similar features, these are more robust and offer better scalability, which justifies the higher cost."
"The solution is easy to use and has good integration."

Cons

"In some configurations, I am unable to use two switches as one and it causes some problems."
"Jupiter Switches' configuration is a little difficult to understand."
"The product is so-so. We are not very pleased with their performance."
"The management tools are limited in their abilities, and suffer from upgrade problems."
"The operating system, Junos OS, often has bugs which forces rollbacks or additional upgrades to resolve."
"The only disadvantage with Juniper is the modules are very expensive lately."
"Support prices and licensing scheme need to be improved to allow some features to be purchased at lower costs, for example, RPM."
"Juniper Ethernet Switches' operating systems get corrupted when the power fails. They have to improve this issue. I may have to use a newer version."
"Juniper should consider reducing its pricing. The Mist licenses are quite expensive and should be more affordable."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"The price of the solution is fair."
"Their prices are competitive and not bad. It is cheaper than Cisco. We have a yearly license."
"The maintenance cost is approximately €2,000 ($2,200 USD) per year, including support, for our entire fleet."
"Juniper Ethernet Switches' pricing is high, but that's reflected across the market."
"Juniper costs less than the competition. As a comparison, Cisco is 33% more."
"We had a leakage in the support process and decided to end the product's life in order to purchase a new product with support. We did not renew product support as a result."
"The Juniper switches are less expensive than competing brands."
"You don't need to license every switch. We only chose to cover support on core/key equipment and keep a cold spare available when needed."
"For the QFX5000 Juniper switches, the price is about $10,000, but they would probably sell it for $1,000. Nobody can beat Juniper's pricing when it comes to switches. Juniper out-prices everybody, but they get you on the back end, maintenance, service port, and service contract."
