Modern data protection has ensured resilient backups and reliable recovery from cyber incidents
The biggest improvement that we would like to see for Dell PowerProtect Cyber Recovery is how it can be part of the storage side of the world versus being a standalone solution. Currently, being a standalone product is neat, but it means we cannot integrate it with our overall storage strategy. I would prefer to purchase Dell storage and use that storage across both my day-to-day storage and the storage for Dell PowerProtect Cyber Recovery. In my current configuration, I have separate hardware for the backup and recovery and the cyber resilience, and I have different hardware for just storage. Integrating these two would be quite interesting. From my perspective, the integration between products is not really an obstacle. What matters more is how we as customers can simplify our technology hardware stack on site. From a software perspective, it would be beneficial if they created a solution where I could see my compute, storage, and backup recovery as a single pane of glass. A one-stop shop with one dashboard would be great. This opportunity exists for improvement. From a hardware perspective, simplifying it so I have less hardware on site would be valuable. I want to reduce my footprint with Dell PowerProtect Cyber Recovery. Reducing footprint is something all manufacturing organizations desire. When you look at all the manufacturing sites around the world, we always have to build a room for IT usage and data center rooms at our facilities. The smaller your footprint, the less cooling and less energy usage you need, which is a win-win scenario. This is what all of us as customers are looking for, which is smaller footprints.

The solution provides the ability to backup all types of cloud drives, is inexpensive, and has decent support
MSP360 Backup provides the backup functionality, but we need to provide the storage component. We can use Azure, AWS, or another provider, but we need to choose the storage provider and create a bucket to store our data. The vendor is making changes to improve the functionality of the service and the separation of storage, but I would like to see more integration and a knowledge base of the tool. Currently trying to understand why the storage is separated and how to implement the storage properly is a challenge. Using the solution incurs additional charges for the device storage and backup which are not included in the service. Unlike other solutions such as Kohl which includes everything at one price. MSP360 Backup can be improved by adding inclusive pricing.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"The biggest return on investment for me when using Dell PowerProtect Cyber Recovery is that if we had an attack, we would be able to recover in hours instead of weeks or months, which is a lot of risk reduction."
"Having used Dell PowerProtect Cyber Recovery for four years, I can say it has helped my business significantly, especially compared to when we were using NetWorker, which was a pain in the ass."
"With today's attacks, having a solution like Dell PowerProtect Cyber Recovery protects your backup data."
"Dell PowerProtect Cyber Recovery has impacted our overall cybersecurity strategy significantly, because when you move away from protecting your outer walls around your firewalls and educating your people, it has been at the core of protecting our data to ensure that we replicate it and can recover the data that we need."
"What makes Dell PowerProtect Cyber Recovery distinct—with its three devices: the CyberSense, the Cyber Recovery, and the Dell Data Domain—is that it is not only taking backups and not only taking immutable backups, it has a complete, isolated environment that locks down completely."
"In terms of reliability, Dell PowerProtect Cyber Recovery is highly reliable, especially due to its method of backing up data."
"We have experienced a significant reduction in recovery times since deploying Dell PowerProtect Cyber Recovery, with an approximate reduction of about 60 to 70% compared to our pre-deployment benchmarks."
"Using Dell PowerProtect Cyber Recovery is a very critical piece of my cybersecurity strategy because it is utilized in situations when I have nowhere else to turn but to my vault."
"MSP360 is vastly cheaper than its competitors and has almost all the same features."
"The initial setup is very easy. It's not overly complex."
"The feature that I have found most valuable is its online backup capacity because you don't have to do an entire backup again and again, it just does whatever you type in, you type a, it goes a, you type b, it goes b. It doesn't take an entire site up again and again. So that incremental and bit by bit backup is important, it is a nice feature here."
"One massive advantage of this solution, as compared to more enterprise products, is that no firewall changes are needed on the client's premises. For the product to back up from the client's premise to the cloud, it just needs port 8 and port 443, which are anyway always open. This was one of the things that made us decide to go with the product. It is very difficult to justify a firewall change for a small client who doesn't even know what a firewall is and how to maintain a firewall, or doesn't have anybody maintaining their firewall. You then have to maintain the firewall. MSP360 Backup takes away firewall change requirements, VPNs, or channels that are needed for the backup."
"The solution is simple to use and easy to configure."
"The UI is pretty good. It's very simple. That is one thing that we like about this. It's very user-friendly."
"I would recommend the solution; it's a very trustworthy solution."
"The solution is appliance-free, the initial setup is very straightforward, the scalability and stability have never been a problem for us, technical support is very good, and we have found the price point to be quite good."

Cons

"What I would improve about Dell PowerProtect Cyber Recovery is to make it a little more simplistic under the hood, comparable to PowerProtect Data Manager."
"One improvement I would suggest for Dell PowerProtect Cyber Recovery is making the management interface more intuitive."
"In terms of areas for improvement in Dell PowerProtect Cyber Recovery, I think the bare-metal part can be improved. My main problem is with the bare-metal recovery."
"The initial deployment took us a lot of time. It requires careful planning, especially regarding networking and the Vault design itself."
"Dell technical support for Dell PowerProtect Cyber Recovery rates a 7 out of 10. A little improvement on both response time and quality would be appreciated."
"My experience with the customer service and technical support from Dell has been somewhat mixed, especially during critical situations."
"I would like more visibility into what is going on with the individual backup images and how they are being scanned, so there are some automation and visibility features that could be enhanced."
"The biggest improvement that we would like to see for Dell PowerProtect Cyber Recovery is how it can be part of the storage side of the world versus being a standalone solution."
"We could basically use just a more concise visual dashboard reporting on the status of the various machines."
"The interface feels like it is targeted for end users who typically are looking for an all-in-one integrated push button solution. It would be better if the interface had a beginner mode and an expert mode."
"There are some things that we don't like about it. That is why I was exploring alternatives in a hyper-scale environment. That is why I was checking IT Central Station."
"The Linux GUI leaves a lot to be desired. It lacks many of the features of the Windows version and is buggy, but it is still usable."
"The solution's pricing is very high."
"If I have an incident and I need to restore something very fast, I want to restore a particular virtual machine, maybe in an hour and that is not possible to do with MSP360."
"The main improvement is that it should have GDPR compliance. That's the problematic point. They say they are GDPR compliant, but they are not."
"The solution needs a better graphical user interface. It's a graphical user interface that is very old-school right now. They could give it a little more modern feel."
