Has supported seamless integration and offers fast implementation
This needs to be checked for the most valuable features in Dell PowerFlex for data management. It is more stable, more powerful, and has more integration features. The scalability is very good and is one of the key features of Dell PowerFlex. Its flexibility and scalability are the main reasons we can use Dell PowerFlex.

Enforces standardized setup procedures following Certified Validated Design (CVD) guidelines and offers greater flexibility and control over the system compared to traditional systems
The GUI setup follows the right setup, meaning we have to follow the CVDi.e. Certified Validated Design. Everything is clear, because you can build CI yourself, but without rules, it can be messy. With FlexPod, there are rules to follow, making it more standardized. This helps with troubleshooting and compatibility assessments, simplifying troubleshooting significantly. We also use FlexPod pre-validated architectures to validate the design. It is very, very important to us because we had a bad case in 2015 where separate items integrated poorly due to no version or firmware compatibility certification. Troubleshooting became a nightmare. So, standards are crucial for us, and everything entering production should be verified or at least documented for certification.

Quotes from Members

We asked business professionals to review the solutions they use. Here are some excerpts of what they said:

Pros

"The solution is scalable."
"We've had no issues with scaling the solution."
"It is more stable, more powerful, and has more integration features."
"We're doing a lot of VMware for IT so this solution is really valuable from a VMH point of view. We're trying to assist our customers mainly with management, because that's what they want. The most important aspects are ease of management, as well as ease of configuration, allowing them to attach additional nodes and resources for the applications."
"The solution saves a lot of space in the data center and that is a key advantage for us."
"The catalog of APIs for automation has been most valuable, although they are quite limited."
"Saves us a lot of space in the data center."
"Dell PowerFlex is a highly scalable solution."
"DR has been tremendously easier."
"The most valuable feature is the defined architecture, so you know you're going to be using best practices."
"There have been no problems at all with the stability; it's rock solid."
"It is absolutely resilient. It has built-in redundancy and multipathing. If there is an issue with one part, it doesn't fail automatically."
"It is versatile, and the profiles and things that you can create with it are good to work with and make it easy to replace the hardware."
"From all of the feedback that I have received, it is an easy, straightforward system to set up and maintain."
"The most valuable feature of the solution is the pre-design; I don’t have to think – it’s a proven and pre-certified architecture that just works."
"The guides that we use to install FlexPods are always up-to-date. This is really helpful, especially if there is a new product with NetApp moving so far forward and Cisco as well. For them to join together and update a centralized document for the install process, it is really good. It helps us understand if there are features from the first version that we installed while upgrading that we need to implement. Those are in the document. So, we find that document useful and helpful when moving forward."

Cons

"They should provide continuous support for data migration."
"The solution needs to offer more documentation and educational materials."
"The tool needs to improve its storage. It should also make migration to the cloud easier."
"We've had some issues around the licensing. There were some issues in terms of using the VMware license."
"Exporting data from the dashboard is not very user-friendly. It's just designed in a way that it's going to cover let's say 90%, 80%, of the end-users needs."
"I think there might be some room for improvement when it comes to pricing because although I know how to convert customers, at the end of the day, it's quite expensive."
"Exporting data from the dashboard is not very user-friendly. It's just designed in a way that it's going to cover let's say 90%, 80%, of the end-users needs. If you need more sophisticated reporting it's not easy to have."
"The installation is complex."
"A couple things could be improved, for example, the interconnect switching. They need to be more flexible."
"It is not easy to implement. The networking configurations with UCS need improvement."
"I would like to see the following: Support for multiple vendors' hardware; support for SAN with Cisco 9000 switches; automated deployment and configuration with respect to CVD."
"They should have an easier user interface to get it up and running."
"I think they can always improve, whether it's dedupe or compression, those algorithms; and flash through better SSDs."
"Newer platform reference architectures take a long time to harden and be publicly available."
"Perhaps the automation interface could be improved."
"I would like to see an easier implementation, but I think that with newer versions of ONTAP and new versions of FlexPod, it's getting better."

Pricing and Cost Advice

"The solution's pricing could be much cheaper and affordable."
"The solution's price is medium."
"The solution is expensive and I give the cost a two out of ten."
"The product is expensive."
"If one is cheap and ten is expensive, I rate the price as eight and a half. The tool is expensive."
"I rate the solution's pricing an eight out of ten."
"The pricing for this solution is good."
"We have a good contact in Dell and he prepared all the information and provided everything to us."
"We have saved time and money for new service deployments."
"The footprint in the data center is quite large, especially when you scale out. Maybe find some hardware in the future, where if a new blade comes out, then Cisco can say, "Look, we'll buy those blades back off you, and we'll give you this blade for X amount of money." A buyback scheme would be good for hardware, and even NetApp as well. Something like a buyback scheme for blades and stuff moving forward would be good, because I know that they're going to put more power into them. E.g., replacing four blades might equal one blade, which would be awesome, but we are still going to have those four blades around. Maybe having something where it will give you this much money for these blades so we can upgrade. That would be perfect."
"Licensing can be interesting with the new version because of the Intersight integration. I don't know what that looks like yet. I have seen some of the different licensing models, but with the new purchasing, all customers are going to have to buy some sort of Intersight licensing with the Blades or FlexPod. I am curious to see how that option shakes out. Previous to the UCS X-Series, the licensing was the same."
"The product's pricing is high and I would rate it a nine out of ten."
"The total cost of ownership with this solution is good."
"The pricing is not cheaper, but stability is more important for us now. We focus on business gains, not static numbers."
"The scalability is very good. I wish it was a more cost-effective, but you get what you pay for."
"We purchased FlexPod though Datalink."
